Hey that is what it was called I forgot ;I referred to it as the Chuckwagon on a previous post. Yes ;The Wagon Ho.
They were not around long just a few years maybe. But yes memorable.
The one I remember most was on King George Highway across from Surrey Place Shopping centre.

I remember the Wagon Ho on Pemberton.
That cowboy and coverd wagon was huge affair, wasn't it.
I remember that place though, I was pretty young back then, we did'nt go there much, maybe once. They had wagonwheel fries I think.
My Father said it was not very good, he was our greesy burger officianato back in them days (he payed).

Yes that was a lot of fibreglass to say the least .

Another company after Wagon Ho bought a few of those Giant Wagon drivers when Wagon Ho went under and used them for their business. But I do not remember which company it was but obviously they are not around anymore or we would have heard or seen them some where .

The story I remember was that Wagon Ho was created by some guys from University and went way over budget and over financed in setting things up.
The Giant Chuckwagons ,The Giant Chuckwagon drivers,The decor inside the buildings etc.
were not done cheap.
The uniforms for the staff were all high end including real stetson hats.

But I remember the food to be not that bad .But you have to sell a lot of food to cover the initial costs or savy business practices to survive.

At the risk of making it impossible to get into my already crowded favourite hamburger place....

If you want a really good experience, go to Moderne Burger on Broadway close to Larch. Art Deco decor, songs from the 50's playing on the stereo, and the nicest, most attentive owners you will ever meet. Plus, the bonus is the hamburgers are real, good, juicy, and big!

To be honest, I'd eaten at Wally's, and I can do without the pressed cardboard with loads of trimmings on top.

Sophie's Cosmic Diner on the corner of Arbutus and 4th....always a multi napkin burger...got to rate it by the number of napkins you need to clean yourself up.

Does anyone recall the Doggs N Sudds? There was one on Lougheed close to the Lougheed Drive In. That was a nice chain of restuarants.

Are Mr Mikes still around? damn.. I'm hungry now...grrrrrrrrrrr

There was a Doggs N Suds in N Van years ago. It was a drive-in joint, with a crazy roof, at the foot of Keith road. It did'nt last long. I have'nt seen a Mr Mikes since I was a kid. That mall in N Van on Marine Drive at foot of Hamilton Ave, are there other ones?

Dog and Suds lasted for quite a while actually .

The last one I know of was in Prince George The Owner was a guy named Mark who's family had something to do with the chain if I remember correctly.

I hung out at the one in Surrey as a Teenager.

Coney Sauce Yummmmmm.

Coney Chips ,Coney Dogs and Coney Burgers.

Or just a side of Coney Sauce by it's self.

Mr Mike's that you refer to ;are reappearing every where in B.C and Alberta but a little more dressed up than the last time around.

I have not personally tried the new ones out yet.

But will eventually.

but my fav for the equivalant of Mr Mike's was Mr Jake's and they were everywhere also at one time.A basic but great Steak place with burgers as well similiar to the Mr Mike's of yesteryear.

Yep! I went to the one in Chilliwack about a year ago ... the ambience and menu are quite different, but the food was good!

I think there is one in Coquitlam as well .

Never been to Wallys as I'm not a native to Vancouver. Yet as another poster stated, it would be a sad day when Peters Drive Inn closes in cowtown. It's always good to have an independent burger joint or small chain as an alternative. I know whenever I head back to Alberta, I usually pop in at a Burger Baron and chow down on a Mushroom burger and onion rings

Yes I just got back from a trip to the coast recently and saw Mr Mikes in several areas popping up again.

Burger Baron is okay but not as good as they were years ago in my opinion but they are an old reliable chain of independents .There is one in Kelowna but mainly Edmonton area and if I am not mistaken Lethbridge .But you are right the mushroom burgers were good and it was the sauce that made them so good.
