| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/9/2008 7:27:43 AM | Well, in any case, Tennessee is quite a state and just about everybody I know who lives here, thinks it's got a tremendous amount of merit, as compared to the many other options they might have.
Memphis, considered on it's own, has it's pros and it's cons, as does Nashville. Some of the pros for Memphis though are an awesome history and incomparable music. Then of course the Mississippi River. But trut' be known, I personally prefer living somewhere east of there.

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/12/2008 2:54:02 AM | Large population ????????? wrong....
Memphis itself is LOSING population...even to Mississippi...
losing to outlying cities like Arlington.....outlying counties...
heck, sooner or later, Memphians are running so fast, "Memphis" will be
in Jackson, TN
Perhaps they moved due to overcrowding or the high cost of living and not because they hate Memphis? If you hated the area--wouldn't you move far away instead of in commuting distance?
|
| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/13/2008 1:11:40 AM | Sounds like a valid point to me!
Let's face it folks. A lot more people come TO Tennessee than leave it. Must be some pretty good reasons for all that inbound transition. Not as though we let 'just anybody' in though.
I see where Maryville was rated the best place in America to settle in for the long haul. Makes some sense too. That's a pretty cool little place to hang your hat.

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/14/2008 3:01:03 PM | Blount Co, Maryville, has a great location as far as when it comes to traveling into Knoxville, down to Chattanooga, and over to the beautiful Smokies. I use to work there years ago and loved the area. I have family over there and visit when I get the chance. I have lived in Knoxville and now in a little itty bitty town north of Knoxville, and have visited numerous areas in Tennessee and personally, I haven't found really anything that I could "hate" about Tennessee period. I have lived in other states over my short life so far, and guess what? I keep coming back to Tennessee. Imagine That!!!
Oh well, you know what they say about opinions.......tee hee hee. Everyone has one.
Take care all and stay safe.

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/16/2008 7:53:51 AM | For the true record, people have been moving out of Memphis
because mostly of racism, and white flight
because of poor education
because of crime
not the 'cost of living'
not because of 'planned growth'....
not because of 'over crowding'.....(that's really silly)
the place is quite a 'study' in 'awful'........
Now, east TN is being infected with the losers who moved to Floirda, chasing the sun, the sand, and pipe dreams on a whisper and prayer...most of whow couldn't afford to live in FL in the first place....so now EAST TN is the 'recipient' of this new brand of fools...EAST TN will soon find out...and places like Kingsport, Maryville, Johnson City, are already finding out.............so is part of North Carolina
|
| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/16/2008 2:15:11 PM | | I talk to people all over the state on a daily basis and the majority tell me they could not afford Memphis. There is some white flight................but one person's hovel is another's castle.............. | |
|
| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/17/2008 7:02:37 AM | SaraMona you seem to be chewing on some pretty bitter fruit there Pardner.
I'd have to suggest it's probably about a lot more than "white flight" from an area, matters of race, or poor education, and more than just a contempt for the blues. .
It couldn't have been about a Memphis feller could it? One who may have done something unspeakable to invite your considerable scorn? Darned Memphis fellers anyway! Ya cain't trust 'em.. I've always heard that!
But why Florida as your place of escape? You had so many other choices!

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/17/2008 7:58:31 AM | "There is SOME white flight" ?????????? (Memphis)
Surely you're kidding, there is HUGE white flight and racism ! I saw it for
YEARS, as a senior professional....EVERY day of the week. It was quite
awful...and for many it seemed like an (accepted) 'way of life'......stupid stuff
TRUTH indeed may be 'bitter'.....truth about ignorance and lack of education
There seems to be this tendancy to somehow glorify the great state of TN. Surely there
are pockets of excellence in community and lifestyle, but there are deep pockets
of backwardness, even in beautiful East Tennessee.
That's just one person's OPINION based on very solid, long term experience.
Any suggestion that Memphis MSA is "expensive" is without basis....housing costs
and 'cost of living' in general is very low when compared to other cities its size and
makeup.
I'll take here in Sarasota anyday......and LaJolla

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/17/2008 8:26:34 AM | I KNEW IT!!!!
All this is about a Memphis feller!!! Darned guy anyway!! Probably had a roving eye, or maybe even roving nocturnal snooze patterns. Told ya you cain't trust 'em! Probably even a geetar picker or a saxophone man!
Love-lorn! What justification to be bashing one of the finest states in the union! And then to move down several notches from that, just to get away. Go figure! But as they say, love can hurt big time. We understand how you must feel..

|
| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/17/2008 2:08:25 PM | | You base the cost of living on your income. If you are a senior professional, I am sure your cost of living was much easier than average folks who make about $8-10 per hour. | |
|
| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/19/2008 10:45:20 AM | Well in any case, the least she coulda done is move to Nashville or Knoxville rather than YIKES! Sarasota!
I still say it was a Memphis feller though, who done her wrong and did her in.. I know a few of them Memphis fellers, and they are rascals! That can really do a number on ya, they tell me, if you are really attached to one. A severely aching heart is plenty of cause for bashing a State I guess. If that's how one tends to rationalize it.
Reminds me of the old song, "The Man From Bowling Green"..

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/21/2008 10:57:08 AM | ...........In case you did not know it, to post in another state's thread is called road tripping and can get you banned.
If you don't like TN and you moved away, why do you still have to malign the state? What you showed us when you headed south, is what you are showing us now..........

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/21/2008 2:28:56 PM | I have sat here quietly biting my tongue as I watch our beautiful state be slammed by someone who has no appreciation for the state, the people, or for anyone else's opinions. I believe that it is narrowmindedness that keeps people from being able to appreciate the beauty of a place no matter where it is. I have lived in other states, including the beautiful state of Florida, but I have returned to the state that I hold dear to my heart.......TENNESSEE. To those who do not like or love our state, then so be it.........that is why the Interstates do not dead end at the state line. It makes it easy for people to LEAVE just as easily as it WELCOMES people in. I am glad that negative people have found an excuse to leave........it makes more room for the truly inspiring people who appreciate new and exciting surroundings.
No place on Earth is perfect, I know that and am sure that others do also. But I am damn proud to live in Tennessee and therefore and glad that there is a WELCOME TO TENNESSEE forum. I would appreciate you not coming here to intentionally bash our beautiful state. We are not bashing yours and would appreciate the same respect being shown.
Saramana, I feel sorry for you and your inability to appreciate the true meaning of life. I almost smile to think that it is because of your jealousy for our beautiful state and you never fitting in, being the reason you feel you must start a "flame war". This type of behavior is not accepted in regards to POF. You might want to go back and read the forum rules before your behavior gets you banned. I wish you luck in Sarasota and hope that you receive all that you deserve. Notice, not all that you want, but all that you deserve. Take care SaraMana and have a great life. But since you no longer live in Tennessee and have nothing positive to contribute..........Leave us be.
Tennessee, is a great and wonderful state. A state that I am proud to call HOME.
This is only my opinion......like you have shared yours. As they say, you know what opinions are like and yes, everyone has one, but not everyone has to show it!
Hugs to all my Tennessee friends, LB72

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/21/2008 8:07:02 PM | Yea yea yea. Tenn this Fla that...
To quote Mr so called professional BS'r
There seems to be this tendancy to somehow glorify the great state of TN. Surely there are pockets of excellence in community and lifestyle, but there are deep pockets of backwardness, even in beautiful East Tennessee.
For the most part I have been staying out of this fight, but I think it time I set a few things straight.
Memphis has always been a racial hot spot, personally I don't like Memphis, but not because of racial indifference, but rather from a truckers prospective. .. then again, my dislike of Memphis is on the Ark side of the border where all the drugs and prostitution happen.
As far as Mr Florida is concern... before I decided to settle in Tenn, I lived in Florida for almost 19 yrs. I watched a beautiful state be destroyed for the sake of the all mighty dollar. They called it "Growth Management".... What I saw was corruption involving self serving govt officials down to land grabbing greed big corporation.
I wonder if Mr Florida has ever seen Florida from the air ?
Well I have.... when it "wasn't" covered with concrete and asphalt. I have seen beautiful protected public wilderness turned into private corp condos and shopping malls. ... Gee I wonder how that happened ?
I watched bored retired people that have nothing better to do then to go around and tell hard working how to live their lives... what color to paint their homes, how high their fence should be... Would you believe a neighborhood where I once used to enjoy trail riding got developed and these people are not even allowed to park a pickup truck in their driveway...??? Doesn't even matter if it is brand new with the show room sticker in the window, It has to be parked in the garage or behind a privacy fence in the back yard.
I could go on, but I suspect everyone gets the picture of the type of people that has invaded and took over once was one of the prettiest states in the southeast, despite the humidity,****oaches, termites and fire ants .
I believe Mr Professional nothing but a troll. I don't even believe he has ever lived in Memphis, mainly because anyone with half a brain realizes Florida has service economy. The state relies mainly on tourism and they pay their workers below avg wages or as cheap as they can get away with. Followed by a declining agriculture that is at the mercy of migrant workers that work for even less and are forced to live in sub standard conditions. So for this bozo to claim that Fla has higher wages than Tenn is pure hog wash.
Florida is owned and operated by corp and dirty political greed.

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/22/2008 4:10:17 AM | ^^^^^He is not just a pretty face, he is intelligent and he lives in TN.

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!!!! Posted: 6/22/2008 8:53:52 AM | Mr Starline, it seems that you want to call me out
for some strange reason.
First, I couldn't care if you've lived in FL......congratulations
good for you.
Second I know a great deal about Memphis, and Nashville
WHY ? I was a senior officer at two very successful banks there
one was First Tennesse National (ever heard of them ???...now
called FTN Financial...holding company).....the other vary large bank
I won't bother to mention, because this stuff may not sink in
Third, even my ex was from TN........BRENTWOOD..(ever herard of
that one ??)
whew...there are some simple minds abound I guess
I CHOOSE to 'live' most times in FL....why not ?, you can't
be in two places at one time !
I own 2 homes in TN (and one in CA, in LaJolla...the one in
the Memphis area is off Riverdale in Germantown (ever heard of
Germantown ???....want an address ??)
Amazing, stupid stuff........xenophobic as well.....

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!! Posted: 6/22/2008 1:34:12 PM | Well, I lived in FL for a few years myself. The beaches "where I was" were quite nice, that is up in the panhandle area, although that doesn't apply to some of them further down. But there have always been big problems in the State as far as government and management are concerned, and much of it has deteriorated badly from what it once was. Some of that has been mentioned here.
However this is clearly a love-lorn, bitter scenario, we have in this case. Someone obviously got their heart ripped out of their chest by one of those aforementioned despicable rascals, (probably just some lounge-lizard), in Memphis, and may never be the same again. So we can sure understand the scorn felt here.
When your heart is laying there on the ground in several pieces, all beat-up, stomped on, and badly bruised, it's sometimes pretty hard to be rational. You may blame it on anything, including even the State itself, for gosh sakes! And some are prone to flee the locale, just to try to get away from all the pain, as demonstrated here.
It's pretty clear that's what happened, in this case.

| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!! Posted: 6/22/2008 4:33:20 PM | Hi Everyone,
Would like to say it's GREAT to live in Tn. I hope everybody is proud of there state they live in, no mater which one. No mater which state you go to in this U.S. you will find something wrong or to complain about. To me it was never the answer. We have to HELP, each other. If you see something wrong isn't it better to say something about it, or maybe even do something about it. Have been to alot of states, we are all different no matter where you go. No matter if it's color ,race or Religion. That's what makes this country GREAT. We may not agree, but it's our right to speak up and say why we don't. We might not even agree, but you might understand another person point of view. I'm not the smartest or richest person in the world but do try to get more enjoyment of my life here, while I am here. No mater which state I'm in. It's just Tn, is the state I choose to be in and will die and be buried in, along with the 4 generations before me.
|
| WELCOME TO TENNESSEE!! Posted: 6/22/2008 7:58:35 PM | SaraMana what is your point ? No one cares how many homes you own or where you worked or where you chose to live until your dieing day... However we are getting tired of you belittling us for our choice to reside in a state that is not only beautiful, but our politicians, for the most part, actually pass realistic laws. Granted I'm talking political and your talking statistics, but the point still remains that you will never pursued us based on your jaded opinions.
Memphis has history... Nashville has history.... Knoxville has history and this cultural history and the people that were a part of it, has played a very important part of influencing this country in one way or another whether you want to admit it or not.
What does Florida have to offer... Disney ? Slave labor for the migrant worker ? It sounds to me that you are right where you need to be, with the rest of the bitter, blue hair old bats.

No mamm, not yet... I do plan on a trip sometime this yr, but I do want to get used to the new bike before I take that challange. At 300+ curves on a 11 mile stretch... well lets say I don't want get in over my head. However I will say that I have been really enjoying myself all about central Tenn and the beautiful scenic country roads with my geezer glide (Ultra Classic)
