What we need to do is to toughen up breeders laws and enforce them. The problem with most "pure" breeds is that when inbred, they go bonkers. Dogs originally bred for guard duty or combat of any sort have to be taken into special consideration, as well.
However, most people I know and went to school with that have owned pitbulls should not. Especially since pitbulls are one of the few breeds I've seen that reflect their owner's personality in every way.
If the owner's a douche, poochy probably will be, too. | |

The problem is you only see this a a "dog thing" but the truth is animals in this country have rights to. They have consequences. Its so funny that no one stated the FACT that all animals get put down after they bite a person. The fact that YOU PEOPLE feel that way after what happen to Vick is garbage. Where were you people voting him on when he was going to trial?
Now if any of you laws included at least Rotts if anything, which I am sure are the strongest most visious dogs that we have in America" then maybe what you guys are saying would hold credit but you are making laws against one type of dog. Doing anything against one type of anything for the reason that is who they are is discrimination. The funny thing about all these dog stories is they never can tell you what made it begin you only hear the end! Tell your kids to not play with Dogs who they dont know the owner....especially pitts. You teach them not to talk to strangers dont you? lol | |

Posted: 4/11/2008 6:33:23 PM | Pit Bulls are stong minded (you could say very stubborn) and dominant. They do require above average care and responsibility. Imo, any dog that "turns" has some kind of mental illness going on, or some defect in the genes, or both. Inconsistancies in training (also lack of) and care, as well as teasing, neglect, or abuse, in any combination, will contribute to ANY dog 'gone loco'. I think in the case of Pitbulls, what has happened is, ever since the fighting was made illegal and went underground, so to speak, breeding restrictions fell by the wayside and, with NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE BREED by IRRESPONSIBLE AND INEXPERIENCED OWNERS, 'psycho' dogs have been the result.
Some special licensing and required classes ( for those that want to own any working dog) might be the way to get better control and prevent bans. Along with higher fines and/or jailtime for the ones running loose.

Many years ago I was once held "captive" by a purebred collie. I had just walked out the door and started walking down the side walk and this "Lassie" came at me from across the street. That dog had serious intentions! I just stopped dead in my tracks. That dog growled at me viciously, for a lifetime, it seemed... like Steven King's Cujo. When it looked away from me and seemed calmer, I started to move and then it came at me again. I was scared sh*tless. It was only about 2 or 3 feet from me. The dog eventually lost interest, but I bet I stood stock still for at least a good 15 or 20 minutes. And, I waited until it was way down the street before moving. 'Cause every now & again it would look back at me and kinda give a low, warning growl. If I did not know what to do, which is exactly what I did do, I would have been torn up, I'm quite sure!
Sometimes, dogs "turn" or otherwise become aggressive because they are allowed to be dominant in the family household. A dog like that, that has been spoiled and allowed to be the leader of the pack (household) from day one, will turn into a bully, usually. They learn they can throw their weight around, get away with it, and before you know it, it's trying to take someone's leg off.
I love Pit Bulls, sorry if that offends anyone. | |

To appease the animal rights activists, what is the language you would use to propose an initiative where a neighbor would be given the right to remove the threat of their kid getting bit in the face? | |

If you want a law against Dogs because my proof isnt good enough for you, then I say make a law against all dogs cause they all have the mind compasity to bite you and cause harm if need be. Kinda like a murder law. we dont just make the law for a certain group of people. We make a general law then wait until the situation. Its the American way! lol

I don't know about him or animal rights activists but on your own property, and any aggressive behaviour lethal force removal, public property and unleashed .... animal control or cops make the call. If the dog is properly looked after it would happen rarely. Breed or type being unimportant, if you let your poodle run free and it is at my home exhibiting aggressive behaviour around my kids you won't have a pet long, if it is just being nosey and wanderring I'll just return it and ask that you clean up any "landmines" your pet left behind. | |

Posted: 5/19/2008 2:03:38 PM | If an aggressive dog is running free and the owner is NOT within visual range AND it's within 20 yards of your kids...SHOOT IT. If you don't have a gun and it gets closer, stand between your kids & it and proceed to bash it in the head with a baseball bat/axe/etc until it no longer offers a threat...
Of course, if you are a mean bastich use a dog whistle to draw it in closer so that it "looks" like it's going to go ballistic at close range when you empty a clip into it. 
Owner stupidity is no excuse. Aggro dogs need to be put down at first opportunity. | |
