What do you think of Daylight Savings Time?

Aintold: In answer to your question:

At 2 a.m. on March 8, 2009 groggy Americans will turn their clocks forward one hour, marking the beginning of Daylight Saving Time (DST).

The federal law that established "daylight time" in the United States does not require any area to observe daylight saving time. But if a state chooses to observe DST, it must follow the starting and ending dates set by the law. From 1986 to 2006 this was the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, but starting in 2007, it is observed from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, adding about a month to daylight saving time. (See: New Federal Law.)

No More Sunlight in Arizona and Hawaii
Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii and the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa are the only places in the U.S. that do not observe DST but instead stay on "standard time" all year long. And if you've spent any time in the sweltering summer sun in those regions you can understand why residents don't need another hour of sunlight.

The Dawning of DST in Indiana
Until April 2005, when Indiana passed a law agreeing to observe daylight saving time, the Hoosier state had its own unique and complex time system. Not only is the state split between two time zones, but until recently, only some parts of the state observed daylight saving time while the majority did not.

I love DST.

I think we should keep DST all year and not observe "standard time"

Suni, Thanks for the cheer and the vote!! Have I told you lately "Me luvs ya"

Floridian407, I'm a pet owner, a dog and 2 cats, how does DST affect this? My guess would be to walk them in the morning hours, since it will be darker in early a.m. again??

I like that I can drive home and it still be light outside. I prefer sunlight to darkness that is for sure.

But I will miss that hour of sleep.

from my original post the first time this went around the forums........

as a parent of a special needs child that has been on a very tight schedule of medications all of his life..........i think DST is a pain in the tush!! my son's clock is not like the rest of us, he wakes and sleeps when he feels like it......most nights he goes to sleep around 1am -2am so now it's 2am or 3am...and as a single mother who has to get up and go to work the next day........every hour of sleep is very important!! i can't tell you the last time i slept 8 hours straight......oh, yeah, i can, about 18 years ago....

just about the time he is getting back in sync, the time changes again......and let me add, that having said all of the above......i still wouldn't trade my son for 10 "normal" ones..........i didn't chose this life........i was chosen........

think pleasant thoughts.....Wolfie

ditto......... another year has passed and i still feel the same.......... DST is a pain in the tushy!! and i'm still Wolfie

I want to get this right...I believe it is TONIGHT..Saturday night because the clocks change ahead at 2 am...correct???

SOMEONE ...

Thanks...~~Beth~~

Beth, I believe it's supposed to be Saturday night, but my computer still stays 12:40 as does my battery-operated clock, so maybe I need to do a "restart" to get the time right - the only thing I try to remember is spring forward, and fall back.

Hmmm now I'm confused, I restarted and it says 12:46 AM. Maybe it changed before I got home but the computer should be different than the clock on the wall.

Wolfie you are hard working/caring mom, and yet you seem to have a lot of postive post. God often chooses special moms for special children.

Beth the clocks go ahead tonight. Actually they move ahead at 2:00 am Sunday, which means by the time you wake up this Sunday they would have been changed, while you slept.

That is if you go to bed before 2 this morning and wake after 2 this morning.

Thank you Nancy, that explains why everything is still coordinated, but after 2:00 AM they will be uncoordinated!

Your welcome, 1 hr to go and the uncoordination begins, for me changing all those clocks is the challenge. Amazing how many clocks I have, and yet I run late most mornings.

well thanks nancy......... trust me, it took me YEARS to accept my life and what God chose for me to do with it......... but i learned that we all have our trials and tribulations.......... and some of us have heavier loads than others.......... i wouldn't change anything about my life OR my son. i feel he is my greatest achievement even if he does keep me up till all hours of the morning..... as i type, he is happily sing-songing in his room....... laughing and giggling at...... who knows what?? "i was told he would live 6 months, maybe a year" and he just had his 19th b'day......i always tell new moms that have a special needs child...... that even though they may not believe it, "they have been chosen". some people learn to deal with the hand given and some throw the cards on the table and get up and walk away........ life is what we make of it......... "God doesn't chose the qualified........ he qualifies the chosen." (unknown author)

oh, and as to not be deleted for not staying on "topic" it's now another day.....and the best thing that happened "today"is that my son happy, coz when he's not happy, NOBODY is happy........

happy fishing y'all !! Wolfie

LOL, that's funny! I'm always doing that. Actually I read it right in your first post.

You're right some people throw the cards down and give up. It is always sad to see that. Thanks for sharing your story. Your positive attitude and perseverance is an inspiration!!!

Well the clocks are now changed. Any body missing their hour of sleep? I know I am.

We don't have many clocks. The computers did themselves, the cell phones did themselves, my digital clock did itself, I did the stove, the microwave and the TV room clock, now all that's left are two little alarm clocks and my car. But I hate losing that hour on a Sunday!

whelp, I went to the beach yesterday and today after work for an hour, so I'm not complaining... as soon as it gets "too hot" I know this beneficial activity will decrease.

although right now I'm cursing it cuz I'm tired as hell but can't sleep.

Although the mornings have been kind of rough, I'm enjoying the time change so far as I've gotten to go running 2 nights after work this week. Luckily my 3 year old is adjusting ok, lol I guess both of us are just sort of exhausted from getting up at the new time, but for now she's been going to be ok at her adjusted time- I suspect in another couple weeks this won't be the case as she'll start noticing it's still light outside. That's what happened last year- I even tried buying special curtains that were supposed to block the light, but you could tell it wasn't fully dark out yet.

Anyway, I do feel bad for those who have a harder time with adjusting to it- I'd be happy if we kept it like it is now so we have more daylight time in the evenings- let's face it, most of us will be tired & not ready to get up in the morning regardless of an extra hour of sun, but it's nice to get home & have dinner & still have some time to walk outside or take the kids to the playground (or in my case have some nights to go running time right after work).
