Posted: 5/25/2008 1:06:19 PM | | if you dont factor in his running ability he is an average QB, but gaining yards is gaining yards and with Vick you also got close to 1000 yards running, compile that with his passing and he stacks up there with just about any QB in the league, not to say he was elite, far from it, but he was a winning QB period. | |

right now the most overrated QB is Vince Young. I don't understand why he was voted rookie of the year. He hasn't done a damn thing.
Yeah all he did that year was put tenessee on his back that year and made them a contender. Surely the award should have gone to mr reggie bush.
Most overrated has to go to Terry Bradshaw IMOP and yes althogh i wasn't living then I've seen tapes. | |

that vick wasn't any good? that vick wasn't an important cog in those falcon teams?

and he was the reason his college team played a major bowl game too-yep-hugely overrated
he was NEVER considered one of the best pure qb's in the game...so who overrated him?
the fact that a bunch of dough heads bought his jersey wasn't his fault

they traded away for vick for tomlinson...dogs or no dogs atlanta wouldnt make that trade in a million years if you asked them now....
you made a point he won a playoff road game so must make him good...and im simply making a point that a lot of qbs won playoff road games ....
I think he got the richest contract in sports at 120 million (football wise)....do you really think he is worth that much?
as i said, that is brady and manning money...
his athletisism kept him in the leauge...as a QB he wasnt that good...
when vick had bad games all of a sudden he had no recievers, when he had a decent game all of a sudden he is god and doesnt need recievers...cant have it both ways... | |

I don't think that's a fair thing to say especially when Alex Smith has had 3 different off. coordinators in each of his past 3 seasons.
Now that Mike Martz is on board, Smith should set a career high in passes attempted since this guy is a notoriously pass-heavy type of offensive coordinator.
Not sure how much that will bode for Frank Gore, who is looking to bounce back after a disappointing '07 season.
The 49ers' receivers need major improvement though. Darrell Jackson was a waste of a FA signing, although Arnaz Battle does have potential & the addition of vet WR Issac Bruce shouldn't hurt as well even though Ike is nearing the end of his career. | |

Still way too early to tell if Smith is truly overrated...he has only started full-time for 1 season ('06 when he threw a career-high 16 TD passes) & missed over half of '08 due to injury. | |

Posted: 5/26/2008 4:09:21 PM | I agree with broncsbuff. Vick is very overrated. QBs aren't supposed to run the ball as a first option or a second option. It seemed like Vick was always looking to run from the pocket; from where all the great passers excelled. If you can't stand in the pocket and deliver a pass, then you aren't much of a quarterback. I think a running QB is a luxury but not a viable gameplan.
When Vinny Testaverde came to the league he was extremely overrated with his seven million dollar contract back in '87 or '88. | |

Even with a SuperBowl win last year, I still think Eli Manning is overrated. He needs to have a good year to prove me wrong.

So I don't see him as over rated but simply over exposed. Favre was over rated but simply because the appeal of his style of play overshadowed his actual performance. Since the NFL is ultimately about entertainment, one could say he ranks among the best ever. But then you'd have to include Broadway Joe in the list. He too took a moribund franchise to the top and without an all time great helping on defense (Reggie White) | |
