Do we really need more pharmaceuticals fo people to take and have it pass through them and into our water supplies, to not be filtered out?

Hell no! Why, so I can be stupified enough to make the same mistake again?
Sorry all I can see is tons of potential for abuse for this pill -- and a lawyers dream because people will get away with crimes from dwi to murder because they took this pill and it made them forget.
They may promise it, but I will believe it when I see it. I'll give thousand to one odds it won't be available OTC in the next 50 years.

I dont think it would ever be available over the counter ,people need to face reality not depend on a drug to cover up their problems they need to deal with.

No. Because you NEED THOSE MEMORIES so you don't do it AGAIN.
No one is stating you'll lose the memory, just that your physical reaction to the event is lessened.
When you recall an extremely painful memory, the body gets confused and releases that same element(s). The anxiety and pain you feel at recollection are actually a physical reproduction of the event. When you are recalling an event, you take the pill and this pill detects that element and reduces it.
Trauma victims greatly identify with the memory of something that happened to them and with some, no amount of time can help put it behind them. Having a pill that would help them achieve that is IMO a good thing. Taking it to lessen the pain of a failed relationship or because you had a bad day would be an abuse of the drug and we all know people don't abuse drugs! Sheesh!

| an easy way to purge bad memories Posted: 3/16/2008 1:55:07 PM | dallyized, I think you are right. Both good and bad memories are very important lessons that help to guide us today as we develop, or respond to our lives, situations, and partners. I do believe that controlled, short term, use of various drugs can be beneficial in the therapeutic process. It is not uncommon for people to keep something horrible that frightens them hidden in the mind beyond conscious recall to protect themselves. Properly administered drugs can stimulate memory enabling us to confront and deal with these heinous past experiences releasing us of the bondage they have impailed us in. I also concur that to "forget" an awful experience is not at all beneficial, but to just try to live with it is just as damaging. REDT doesn't erase memories of bad things. Most people have had horrible experiences in life, some worse than others. Often these memories are so traumatic that they prevent people from having happy relationships, comfort with their sexuality, optimism, or feeling good about themselves. When they are unaddressed these memories cause the person to again re experience the drama as if it were happening to them in the moment. They again are participants in it, so also revisit the horror of it feeling all of the powerlessness that heinous abuses cause. REDT is a process that allows us to remember as an observer, instead of a participant, so gives us our power back. Once we can make that shift life is as different as night and day. | |
