Do these Forums really mean that much to you that you'd continue to post on a dating site while involved in a serious relationship??? Absolutely. If one of my GFs (or wife, if I was married) told me I wasn't allowed to be on any forum I want, I'd tell her I've enjoyed our time together and wish her luck.

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/18/2008 7:24:41 AM | I'm with gigas - I've met someone really special and just changed my profile - and put a comment in my profile to remind all just in case I was misunderstood. I enjoy the site for many reasons not least of which is to learn what not to do in my relationship.
On a more positive note, there are some on here who have it together and it's really great to get new insights from them. Just like, if you're a schmuck it comes thru pretty clear, if you've got it together it comes thru pretty clear.

I don't see the harm in staying active on the forums tho. Sometimes you get criticised straight away for being on the forums...but it's like..what..I'm in a relationship now so I'm no longer qualified to comment?
(Oh and as of yesterday I'm out of a relationship again...just figure of speech)

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/18/2008 8:02:41 AM | | YES! TOTALLY! I'm only here because I'm addicted to forums... and I've made that clear in my profile that's I'm not looking and not interested... not that I'm in a 'serious' relationship.. but I am seeing someone and feel there is no need to make myself available if I'm not. | |

When I find the person I'm looking for, and I'm happy and we're committed, my profile will be gone. I would also feel.. well... sort of cheated on if the other person kept theirs open and was continuing to chat with people of the oposit sex, even if they did change their "looking for" field. This IS a dating site, after all.

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/18/2008 12:05:03 PM | Yes absolutely! If I meet someone and we date more than once- i would at least hide my profile and quit looking to see who was looking at me- if we lasted a month or more- I delete myself. it is unfair in a relationship not to focus on that relationship. If you are scoping out other profiles, emails IM's etc- then you are not focused on your present situation.
And as for my friends being here- well, funny but I have most of their private email addresses or phone numbers saved if I am really that interested in continuing a friendship. There are other ways to find dating advice than on a singles site- I for one take everythign I "learn" here with a grain of salt- we are all single after all. Most coming from failed marriages- what helpful advice can we offer honestly, that might work??

Shari, with that kind of attitude, these forums would dry up and turn to dust. People would quit asking advice and opinions knowing the answers are bogus and others wouldn't respond cuz there isn't any questions....yikes! And all the posters who said they'd stay just for the forums, what in the world would they do then?
But my answer was in line to yours...devote that time to my new relationship.

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/18/2008 3:28:27 PM | | What is the difference if the site is a dating site or not and you are only on it for the forums. If you are going to stray or be tempted you'll be tempted wherever you are. The gaming forums, the DIY forums, the pirate satellite forums, the local library, the supermarket, your kids school. Temptation is at every corner, so really why teh hangups about staying on a dating site for the forums if you are clear in your profile about it?! | |

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/18/2008 8:21:24 PM | | why the heck would i need to post or have a profile on a dating site if i had already found someone and it was getting serious? to network, meet friends, post in the forums? why? doing any of the above on a SINGLES site , implies that you're still SINGLE and looking...and if you're really taken, why would you need to do that? oh and don't give the excuse that you post or keep up a profile to maintain connections with your online friends...there are such things as email, msn, or...OMG even the phone or hanging out in person! | |

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/18/2008 8:27:15 PM | | i beg to differ...i know some people who've made some very serious and meaningful connections with people via PoF and other dating sites. it's just another venue for meeting people, and just like all the other more traditional venues...you're gonna kiss plenty of frogs before you meet a prince/princess. perhaps we should all be a little less jaded about our prospects ; ) | |

Your profile says long term but yet here you are saying that is not possible on here yet here you are. I personally don't know anyone who's even using this site so I can't say if it has or hasn't worked, and I've heard lots about sites like this being a waste of time. But I don't see why they couldn't work. The few girls I've met here have been great in their own way and if I wasn't so picky right now and if I was looking for something serious I'd say for sure two of the three would have been ideal candidates. I've talked a number of great women too so really I think there's lots out there. But some people have no dating skills and don't see the big picture. They blame their lack of dating success on others around them when in reality the source of the problem is a little closer to home then they choose to see.
Crazycurlz, I consider this site more of a social networking site, much like Facebook or the old ICQ, with a dating twist. Put the profiles and the dating mentality aside these forums are awesome and unparalleled on the net. If someone points me in the direction of a better site for forums and discussion I'm there, but as of now I've not seen anything that even remotely compares to what POF has to offer so I'd choose to stay for that. But as I've maintained all along if my job was such that I could not log on during the day a few times and post I wouldn't post at all if in a relationship and I'd delete my account. The people I've met and stayed in contact with on here so far are on my MSN and in my email inbox so I could contact them that way. And about half of them I've had phone conversations with so there's that avenue as well, like you said. But if the only time I had to read and post to the forums was in the evenings and weekends and I ended up moving in with this girl then I'd be out of it for sure, because if I'm sitting on the forums while she's in the other room then I might as well be looking for dates or sex on the side right? Because I'm not focusing my attention where it needs to be and eventually it will begin to unravel. But that point is a few years down the road for sure so until then as long as I have free time at home and at work I'll be around, forcing my 12 cents down everyone's throats. =)

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/19/2008 7:56:22 AM | | I have stayed but my profile says not looking for anyone. Its still a new relationship and we only see each other once a week so its nice to have the forums and the odd mate to chat to on here and other sites i use. Hes no objections to me being here and his profile is still on here too and that doesnt bother me, tho i think he rarely signs in. If he asked me to leave here then i would most probably as it is more of a dating site than a profile site | |

| Would you leave the dating sites if you got in a serious relationship? Posted: 3/19/2008 8:04:59 AM | I would be gone so fast. I met one guy started a relationship we both removed our profiles. He came back on looking for "other relationship" Said he did it out of bordom. Ya well I am back so you all know how that went. My ex used this site and when I cought him on here he said it as only for the forums, But you know how if you stay logged into the fourms when you click on the page it say how many new mails you have ,,,, yep 7 new emails.
If he was not willing to leave this site I can promise you there would be no relationship at all. There are tons of forums all over the net go find one that interests you and carry on. There is no need to be on a dating site for the forums. Add the friends you met to your personal email and MSN. If you won't do that then how good of "friends" are they.

There are tons of forums all over the net go find one that interests you and carry on. There is no need to be on a dating site for the forums. Incorrect. This forum is unique. True most everyone finds this site because it is a dating site. However there is much more meat to this site's bones other than the dating aspects. Not to recognize this is a display of ignorance.
You meet other people, single and not, in these forums. True there are other forums that deal with the topics in these forums, but all of the people in these forums are NOT in every other forum.
I wholeheartedly encourage single and non-single people to explore other internet forums. It's just ridiculous to feel like EVERYONE in COMMITTED relationships cannot be trusted to access this site solely for the forums. That's a rather bleak pessismistic view on interpersonal relationships. If one is in a committed relationship, it's easy to set up your profile in such a way that allows you only contact with the forums, state in your profile you are not available, and give your password to your partner if you so desire. That's how a mature person behaves.
