it is legal in Vegas.. i dont know if i would want it to be in all states... we are already have an AIDS epidemic....
So what problems have been newly created or exacerbated in Nevada? What problems have been solved or reduced in Nevada?
With regulations, mandatory testing and I would assume prolific use of condoms by "professionals" would not the spread of HIV be greatly reduced? I could see a real premium being put on "bare back" activities if even allowed at all. At the very least the education level and safe practices around the profession and with the clients could and likely would improve. That would be a good thing.
If prostitution were legal in the U.S. and properly regulated with an emphasis on safety for both worker and client I believe it would go a long way toward improving our often backwards attitudes toward sex. If that did indeed happen, then it would lead to a potentially improved society and culture. The fewer hangups we have the better we can all get along and enjoy our lives.

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 12/30/2008 3:19:49 PM | Maybe prostitution has existed in some twisted form ever since a woman submitted to a man who would protect her in her cave and take his spear and club and drive prehistoric creatures off.
But I find true love and the marital vow a lot more appealing!
The thing is for you posters who are pro whoring, what would an ethical or religious courtship prospect think of you after they reflect on your post of being favorable for prostitution?

Uhm...
They might think that I'm not so quick to condemn something through my choice of words (pro "whoring"???), and that I consider as many sides of an issue that I can before I give my considered opinion. That I don't shoot from the lip, but think things through before talking?
Y'know, it's funny: language is the gift from God/the gods (if you're of a religious bent), or the end product of tens of millions of years of painstaking mammalian evolution. And what do we do with that gift? We use it to talk trash about others.

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 12/30/2008 7:00:57 PM | It would be GREAT to have a reasable priced whore house in every town.
All these uppity women would have competiton . all guys want is to get laid. Anyone that says different is lying.
|
| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 12/30/2008 7:05:06 PM | Women might have to behave better toward men. Why spend a lot on dinner and get a peck on the check or have a bad evening when for the same money, a guy can get what he wants-laid.
If women think guys want something more, they are wrong. When you reach a certain age, all guys want is sex.
|
| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 12/30/2008 7:29:30 PM | Honda, when YOU reached a certain you decided all you want is sex. I can give you a long list of men who would disagree with you. Women interact with douche bags and generalize that all men are douche bags. The last thing good men need is other MEN agreeing with them to make themselves feel better about their own skeevyness. | |

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/5/2009 9:56:22 AM | I think Mr. Bigg is wrong here. Prostitutes are for sex not relationships. Personally, as a woman, I would not date a man who decided to indulge in prostitution. No offense to the prostitutes. They're just doing their jobs but if you wanted that sort of relationship instead of a real relationship then I wouldn't want anything to do with that. There are too many guys out there who seem to feel entitled to be able to have sex all the time. That's not the way it should work. If a woman you're dating decides to have sex with you you should feel lucky she likes you enough to do that with you. You aren't entitled to be able to just have sex whenever you feel like it.
Remember, if all else fails there's always you're hand. There's no reason to indulge in prostitutes when you have your hand there, all the time , readily available, and you're hand never says no. And here's the best part. If you use your hand all the time you will remain disease free! You can't say that if you indulge yourself in prostitutes all the time. Remember, even condoms break sometimes.

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/5/2009 10:08:20 AM | | I'm so glad I don't know or date these men on this thread. Some have made some good points but most of you are very selfish. It's not all about sex. This is why there are so many accidental pregnancies and so many children out there without fathers. Keep it in your pants for five minutes! You ought to be embarrassed but you aren't. I may add that the virginity rate amongst college girls has doubled in the last few years because of this attitude. Basically, if you feel you need to have sex all the time and don't really want a relationship there are prostitutes in every state illegally go to one of them. If you don't want to date and get to know us real ladies then good riddance. I would rather never have sex again than have sex with a man who has this sort of attitude! | |

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/5/2009 2:31:21 PM | From post # 349:
From a functionalist perspective prostitution is required as a means to deter would be sexual criminals from commiting rape. Prostitutions function is clearly defined within this theory as being a necessary evil .
This is so Bogus as to condemn males to be such weaklings that they just like we females ought to be able to control our glands and desires.
Perhaps instead of Murdering so many in Kuwait, Irac, and Afganistan this nation needs to take lessons on how the Islamic peoples handle rape and prostitution and why from their religious documents!
I know quite a few males who are conscious enough to know that sex is shallow without real love. Anyone can write a book or research paper, and the fact they wrote it DOES NOT make it true!
Prostitution exists purely and simply because the cultures involed are NOT evolved enough to to get away from that the sexual act is more than hunger or lust.
The Bible does not endorse protitution at all, in fact Rahab at Jericho changed her ways as well as the woman caught in adultery that Christ spared from being stoned.
Prostitution in North America or Europe is clearly a barometer of the LACK of SPIRITUAL maturity of the nations that allow it.
|
| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/19/2009 9:03:01 PM | good thing sex sells in profiles .................is that spiritual maturity?Religion(spirituality) & sex together is a whole different topic.
functionalist approach is only one focused area...how huge is huge?( for the paper) Since most sexual abuse/rapes in any culture are unreported, how accurate can your interpretation of the research be if you didn't critically analyze the information from many view points.
A self actualized person would have different view points from any one theory or perception of this topic. I don't believe that the legalization of prostitution would help the people who lack the connection of norms. The people who commit crimes such as rape do not have the ability to understand why it's not acceptable. IE; Paul Bernardo's brain =total limbic system failure, he feels no remorse literally. Therefore, having legal prostitution or not, his course of actions would have taken place.

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/19/2009 9:09:50 PM | | If it were legal the sex would be disinteresting for me. If I were without a partner for a long period of time, it would become more and more interesting I suppose. It's just missing that element that I really don't know what to call. That element that brings two people together naturally. | |

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/19/2009 9:13:20 PM | | thats great.... christ saved a women from getting stonned yet hes going around turning water into wine.....the beginings of AA ... | What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/19/2009 10:26:29 PM | | I see this topic started a year ago in March 08. A lot has changed. The legal brothels in Nevada have laid off women, because men just dont have the money to pay. Then the NYTimes and other papers had an article two weeks ago that said the number ofd people who have signed onto online dating/relationship sites had jumped something like 60% on some sites. | |
|
| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/19/2009 11:06:52 PM | I want to to stick a spoon in my eye and scoop out some of my brain so I can relate to some of the ridiculous posts on here.
The availability of prostitution has nothing to do with rape. Rape is an act of violence not pent up sperm. Also I don't believe the number of men who visit prostitutes would increase in the slightest if it were legal. It certainly wouldn't affect the societal relationship dynamic.
The sex act is very seldom the sex act alone. It's the artful courtship dance that culminates in a primal union. And for the few people who want to skip the dance and go right to the act. There going to do it whether the government say it's ok or not.

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/20/2009 7:56:35 AM | Well, EpisodeIV, to respond a month later : I think your reasoning is only valid in very limited circles. I'm sure for some, the legalization of prostitution could improve relationships, but I'm not exactly sure who. I can only speak for myself and those I know, and I can say this with certainty:
Any man who visits a prostitute while dating me, is NOT the man for me. If you have to have sex with someone else to get to know me properly, keep on walking.

What if Prostitution was Legal?
I'd own that new leather coat I've been eyeing!!
K - seriously..... there are still men out there that want that connection that comes from a relationship....(thank god).... It might seem like a great thing to do at first......but I have a feeling......the "real" men.....would tire of it quite quickly.
|
| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 1/20/2009 12:45:15 PM | Even though prositiution is illegal, prostitutes are everywhere. I don't think it would chance a couple's sex life at all. | |
