| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/18/2009 8:52:04 PM | | I would think that in general there would be less men or even women seeking to hook up just for sex since if prostitution was legal it would be easier to get sex and gradually having sex for money would not be as shamefull as it is now. I think what you say is true | |

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/18/2009 9:52:40 PM | I don't think relationships would change much if it were legal. I think people who are into paying for sex are going to find a way to do it, legal or not, and people who aren't into prostitution won't change their morals or preferences just because it's legal. (I actually think it might be a good idea to make it legal because it would probably be safer, more regulated, and more time and money can be spent on fighting other crimes.)
I think it's stupid to withhold sex (btw, both men and women do this), but again, I don't think people would change if they're going to be like that in the first place. And even if a man could "easily get laid no matter what his condition", he still wouldn't be able to easily "make love" or have sex with a woman who truly wants and desires him. So people who want some leverage, could probably continue to get it...
That being said, I have an honest question, and I'm not trying to be mean or judgmental. I'm simply curious. What do people like about using prostitutes? Do "johns" get satisfaction in trying to please the prostitute as well? Or do they like it because the focus is all on themselves and they don't have to worry about the prostitute's opinion? I know that the physical part of sex feels good, but it's nothing without the satisfaction of knowing that the person you're with is having an equally amazing time and really desires you...

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/26/2009 1:38:47 AM | OMG I can not believe I'm reading this. Prostitution IS legal and has been for many many years. It is only illegal if the prostitute solicits in a public place. How do I know this you might ask? I work in a shelter for homeless women and their families and about 2% of the women here are sex trade workers (prostitutes). Part of my job is to know the laws pertaining to women and the rights women have. Does no one out there ever read up on women's rights????? | |

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/26/2009 7:51:08 AM | | Prostitution is legal, it just comes under a different cloak. It is all semantics and people just do not want to recognize it. There are plenty of women who will have sex with a man if he wines and dines her. Plenty of men who pay for things for women in exchange for sex and or companionship. Just because it does fit the exact legal definition does not mean it is not prostitution. | |

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/26/2009 8:42:53 AM | Prostitution has been legalised in some Australian states and also in New Zealand. There doesn't seem to be a major disruption in the social order; clients come to prostitutes for the same reasons as they did when it was illegal. The difference when it is legal is the criminal stigma is removed and also to a large extent, the criminal elements seem to go out of prostitution as well, and also prostitutes are protected by ordinary civil law.
The debate doesn't seem to be quite settled but it seems banning prostitution has the same negative effect as banning drugs; it encourages rather than hinders criminality, especially by making something in high demand more profitable but the only 'business' which supplies the demand if something is illegal is criminal gangs. Many organised crime outfits have made their best profits from prostitution rackets, alongside gambling, standover tactics, and selling drugs.
I think the best way to handle prostitution, along with drugs ultimately, will be through legalisation and regulation, while banning certain forms of prostitution (i.e. child prostitution, selling of sex involving people trafficking, etc) which pose serious risks to the people themselves. I don't approve of it personally from a moral standpoint, but the evidence seems to suggest banning it does not make it go away and increases rather than decreases crime associated with this activity.
Here is an interesting story on the subject describing the NZ situation from the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7927461.stm

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/29/2009 7:26:21 AM | I dont know where you live ,but it is legal here, and I dont think women are going to have sex with a man they are pissed off at ,just because their is a chance he may get it elswhere.
I think when a woman is pissed off at a male she obviously doesnt feel in the mood , it is not so she can get what she wants. Its usually because their is no communication
You way of thinking is disturbing , you minimise the relationship between men and women to being a transaction, a relationship is obviously far more involved and complicated than you are aware of.....
Legalising prostitution is not going to change the way men and women behave in relationships any more than the freedom of divorce did.....

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/29/2009 7:35:42 AM | Yea, I think It should be legal. There is no way to assure that it isn't forced though ???
I think there may be alot less little girls and women that come up missing ???

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 3/29/2009 7:39:43 AM | Oh my god
A woman holding out on the promise of sex, what the hell is that, Is it a job she has promised to do for you, that is just ridiculous. She owes you to cook dinner , do the ironing ,and sex on demand.
I know in times prior to the world evolving and becoming civilized men once got away with that attitude to women, now an arrangment like that would be called slavery.
I can't imagine any woman wanting to have sex with a man with that attitude, we live in a time where men actually have to involve and participate in relationships with women and some are just plain to selfish and lazy and see still see women as some sort of slaves who are their to please them regardless of what she wants or how she feels
Thank god divorce has been made available to these women and their are women prepared to charge for the service your poor partner has had to provide to free, becuase the truth is that is how you see it as a service.....

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 4/2/2009 11:37:13 AM | | prostitution in canada is legal (well almost) the law turns a blind eye to it and escorts advertise in the papers all the time women hate it, guys love it, i think when women got liberated a lot more opened up than they expected now you can't scoop air back into the balloon and every day it seems to get cheaper and cheaper i have watched the ads come from 200 a night to 80 got interested in it when i saw a programme on t.v. about how execs from the dot com era lost their jobs and the hookers sorry (escorts) had followed by lowering their prices | |

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 4/2/2009 11:49:23 AM | | I don't think it changes anything except maybe the revenue the government could make with taxes and regulation. And who are we fooling here anyway. It may not be legal in the states but look up "escort" for your area and tell me you don't come up with a lot of hits. And if you're naive enough to think they are simply escorting men on dates or just having good conversation with lonely guys you should get out of the house once in awhile. And for those of you who are escorts or do call them just for good conversation I am truly sorry to sully your good name. | |

A woman holding out on the promise of sex, what the hell is that, Is it a job she has promised to do for you, that is just ridiculous. She owes you to cook dinner , do the ironing ,and sex on demand.
Well, the opposite side of that argument is; do I really owe her my time, money and effort if she doesn't contribute to this thing we humans refer to as a "relationship"? Why should I provide for her if she doesn't do sh_t? While it is nice to be with someone that wants to do these things for me, I can cook and do my own laundry too, so what else do I need her for? Once again, a woman is attempting to justify having a monopoly on sex. When men realize they can get it when they want it, then sex ceases to be something women can monopolize. That's as it should be, however I won't ever pay for it. I haven't done that in years. Why? Because I refuse to further contribute to the stultification of the male of our species by paying for something that is not work -and- because I just don't need to. I'd sooner pay you to cook or clean for me.
Human beings are the only species on the planet that really have relationships, courtship customs, marriage, long-term relationships, etc., etc. The least you could do for me is cook me dinner and maybe clean-up around the house otherwise why do I need you? Sex isn't enough of a reason either. Sex is a natural god given instinct, not something you can buy or sell. Sex isn't work either.
Look, I'm sure I could make money selling myself to very old, ugly or morbidly obese women too. Would I? Hell -to the- NO. I'm sure I could though. There's lots of wealthy and lonely women out there too. Believe it or not, there are women who would be willing to pay for sex too. It's not as frequent because women aren't as brainwashed to glorify a man's c_ck as we men are to glorify the "almighty" p_ssy. Because men are conditioned to think this way, women take sex for granted. It's because we men allow women to hold a monopoly on sex and continue to further feed that attitude towards it. I won't play that game anymore. The irony was, once I stopped playing that game, that's when I started having sexual experiences much, much more.
It could also be argued that prior to the world "evolving" and becoming "civilized" that nobody paid for sex. They just took it and had it. We're the only species on the planet that could turn something natural and god given into something that could be bartered with, bought - sold, and used as a status symbol.
And we call this progress?!?
A man's role in a relationship could also be referred to as "slavery" by your context. Many men do see marriage as nothing but legalized slavery. The Rolling Stones sang it best "I'll never be your beast of burden". That's pretty accurate, I'd say.

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 4/2/2009 12:05:53 PM | | Do you have to pay for Craigs List? I just hate how online there are so many advertisements for sex websites, in which it says it is 100 percent free, but when you try it, it asks for you credit card number. | |
|
| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 4/2/2009 12:12:58 PM | | No, Billabongdude06, you don't have to pay for Craigs_List. It's totally free. Yes, most sex sites do intend to charge you to contact anybody. And prostitution is legal in Nevada and in Mexico, although I wouldn't recommend Mexico right now. | |

You're in Orange Country, right?
Go to: http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/
Look for "women seeking men" and "casual encounters" under personals and "erotic" under services. I'm going to tell you that a good percentage of the women on there are fakes. Their ad may be a front for getting you to pay to watch them on a webcam. That happened with one girl I messaged on Adult_Friend_Finder. Under the "erotic" section, a lot of them may be prostitutes. Any way you look at it, you're going to be spending money without the assurance of "getting some" in return. I know it's unfair, but it's basic economics. The supply of available beautiful women is low and the demand for them by guys is high. When supply is low and demand is high, then companies (and women) can price gouge you.

| What if Prostitution was Legal? Posted: 4/2/2009 3:40:57 PM | | Yes I live in Orange County, Southern California. Why do you think there are a lot of fake women on dating websites, sex websites, overall, social networking sites? Who usually creates the fake profiles? Under-cover Cops? or Women just teasing guys and leading them on just to boost their ego? | |

Some are in unhappy marriages or relationships and want to have an affair and/or sex on the side. I wouldn't say that all women on dating sites or Craigs_List are dogs. After all, a lot of us work long hours and drive long commutes. Here are some ways you can tell the fakes from real people: 1) if they want you to go to another website in their ad, 2) if she lists a phone number and the area code is nowhere near where you live. I'm sure there are other ways you can tell, but that's all I can think of at this moment. When you look at ads on Craigs_List, make sure they at least have a pic. If they don't have a pic, then chances are they're cheating on their significant other and/or don't want friends/family/co-workers knowing.
