..How is what he said any more offensive or different than a fundamentalist pastor who openly condemns someone who is gay/lesbian

Because the Bible calls homosexuality a sin. Being gay is a lot different from being a particular race/ethnicity. Speaking out against the homosexual lifestyle is backed by the Bible. However, with the exception of an ignorant few, these pastors condemn the lifestyle, not the people who live the gay lifestyle.

Message 491, there have been hundreds of thousands of people over the last 2000 years who have twisted the words of the Bible to fit into their agenda. There are just as many people who say homosexuality is not condemned in the Bible as there are who say it is. And there are some, who also use it to justify racial hatred. (Think KKK here). I don't think Obama's church was one of those. I think Obama's church spoke out against society but I didn't hear anything in the little snippets that most of America heard where Wright twisted the words of the Bible to say Whitey is the devil.

Faith, have fun at the convention!! I'll look for you on the BallotBowl today! lol

I think we all should be proud of our heritage. It's what makes us who we are. I myself am German, Swede, Scots, Irish and Indian, but to say "Indian" now is definitely not PC. I don't say that I am Cherokee or that I am part Prussian.
I remember going to Georgia when I was young and seeing a sign imbedded in a door that said "Whites Only". This was in the "70's" not just after the Civil War! I couldn't believe what I saw!!! I remember thinking to myself "I thought this was against the law". Over the years I have had friends that were Hindu, Muslim, Catholic, Buddist, Protestant as far as religions, and pretty much every race. A lot of the time we managed to laugh at each other. Not in a mean way, but because of the English language and how so many things sound the same but mean something different, that and our slang. You would be surprised how people from other countries don't know what "go pee" is.

It seems that anymore we are so quick to be judgemental and listen to innuendoes (now I'm not talking about everyone here). Those innuendoes work out perfect, don't they? Isn't it amazing how one little innuendo can hurt a politician so much, actually you don't have to be a politician for that to work. Our media (glad we have them) just keep playing those innuendoes over and over and the ones who don't have their thinking caps on take it for gospel and it works. Remember the "YAHOOOOO" and what hearing that over and over did. Even the way a lot of us get our information from the media has changed. The quick fix. Listen to the news on TV. Don't read newspapers. Psst, Pssst, did you hear this? Same thing on every 24 hour news channel. Now I am sure that there are other noteworthy things to talk about going on in the world so that all of them could have something a little different, not just a different spin. I would love it if we could get news the way we use to (originally when dish first came out we would get uncut news or cut very little). It may have been pretty gruesome at times, but you saw the way it really was, not how they want you to think it is. And no, it isn't what you would have your young children watch. I was the judge of what my child watched until she was old enough to make her own decisions and that worked pretty good.

I think it is great that we all are discussing on these forums. It may not be a sit down round table discussion, but it works.

Of note to some; where I live is in the middle of the boonies by most peoples standards. It may be beautiful, but it's sparse as far as population. I could probably name 2 churches who have adopted a foreign area. They also send members of their congregation there to deliver things they have collected and help that area in any way they can. So Obama's church is doing what a lot of churches are.

I think as time goes on and Africa's population gets more education, things will start to change. Remember, there are generations of people who didn't get a very good education or an education at all.

I have high hopes. I hope that whoever becomes our next "President" that can pull this nation back together. I hope that our standing in the world is that we can be that beacon of hope to others less fortunate. I hope that our politicians running the show start thinking of this country as a whole and quit fighting amongst each other. I don't care what political party you are affiliated with, "DO YOUR JOB! " Not do your party's job, do the job that your people who put you there need you to do for them. I don't want much, do I? Like I said, I have high hopes and I hope that I am not a drowning ship here.

Rewarding consistent bad behavior and thinking it is cool or it doesn't make a difference. Let's just see how bad we can get people to act and make a TV show out of it. It'll make millions. My Dad use to tell me that greed would kill us all. I think he was a pretty smart man. Think of who we just might have running for office if the contestants could not raise money, could not take money from corporations, they all had the same budget given to them. No I haven't thought out all the logistics, is just a what if. Think that might mix things up a bit or is that for another forum.

It's funny ! ~ seems like the pivot point of any one arguement seems to hinge on ~ just exactly to what point you wish to look back in time.

The chicken or the egg? ~

From all accounts from our science communite ~ We are all ~ African! ~

Now ~ what are we going to talk about? ~ shades of color ~

It's easy to find discord ~ yet it's easier still to find common ground

I've been voting blindly for many years lets see Carter, Reagan, Jackson, Perot, Clinton in 1996 not allowed to vote because I was considered homeless..Funny the supreme court ruled in favor of homeless people voting in the early 80's in Santa Barbara but it wasn't reconized so Bill didn't get my vote that day I can't remember who got it in 2000 I was drinking then 2004 but I remember voting for Gore and Kerry, I think Gore in 2000, anyway Carter was and will always be my favorite..But this time even though I'm pretty sure about Hillary I'm not doing it with my eyes closed unless of course I fall off the wagon on election day..So I for one am grateful for all the information on all candates good or bad.

You guys I went to the convention today. First, they announced that Obama won 81/46 precient delegates. I was happy. But, then we were to complete the process of delegates going to the state. We were so hurt and dissappointed. On the local level it was fair. We voted for the person we desired, but on the state level it was NOT FAIR.

The process was rigged. We selected the candidates we desired from our preceint (keep in mind I represent a red district) so we only had 13 delegates. From that 13 we could only send 1 delegate and 1 alternate to state.

We had more Hillary supporters than Obama at the convention. 5 of our Obama supporters did not show up.

But, that was ok, the Hillary supporters were mostly retired teachers so we had a great time.

Our little precient was so happy to be there. After we selected the two people from our precient that would go to Austin. I was going to leave and get my nails done. They convinced me to stay to see how they would select the 'At large' delegates.

They had over 500 applications. We all wondered how would they process 500 applications in less than 2 hours. But we moved on.

The convention voted that there would be no speeches and whatever was written on the nomination paper would act as their application.

Now remind you this is the first time any of us Katy people have been to a convention. So, we are following all of the rules.

We look up and people are going to the stage talking to the nominations committee, they are going and pulling applications and placing them in a pile.

They then call the names of the 'At Large' delegates. When we ask them to stand up so we can see who they are (we meaning all members present), it turns out to be all of the volunteers from the nomination committee and thier friends. Many of them had left for the evening (though we were told, to stay because the nominations committee would favor those that remained for the long haul).

The floor asked if we could motion for the members not present be removed from the list. Since we were told that the nominations committee would not favor those that left early.

Katy then proudly stepped up to the mike and nominated another lady from our group to go and replace one of the absent nominee's.

The nomination committe became outraged. One of the superdelegates asked us to stop the process because the delegate we were trying to replace (whom was not there) was a big money holder, gay and under 35 with a disablity(we did not know this, we were following the process).

This continue. They already had who they wanted.

They were making people delegates for the state convention that were alternates at the precient level. They were switching Hillary delegates and putting them on the Obama side. It was a mess and vice versa. It was a mess. Remember they told us the rules at first. They told us the rules and then started aruging with each other on the stage abou the rules they told us whenever someone from the floor challenged them.

When the people spoke out and said this was an 'outrage'. They became angry. People left so mad. I have never seen anything like this before. They cheated right in front of our faces.

We are all doubting everything now. We went to eat dinner afterwards, we still can not believe what we saw!

If the democratic party does not get it together. McCain will win. The democrates look bad as a whole at this point.

Faith, sorry that things turned out that way. Myself, I have become so discontent with the "parties". They have lost touch with reality and the American people.

Ya, just tell us what we want to hear and we'll go away like good little boys and girls. It is pretty sad, when normal every day folks have more common sense, or should I say any kind of sense, then the people who are in office and now it seems the people who are in charge of getting them there too. Things need to change. It seems that the only things that the two "major parties" are really good at is driving a wedge between the American people.

In reality, I think that their BS is starting to drive people together. Do you think that not letting the votes of Florida and Michigan didn't tork a few people. I know that I am not very happy about it. I never was happy with how we voted here for primaries anyway. We have to vote a straight ticket. Now, was I born yesterday or is that telling me how I have to vote? What if I don't want to vote a straight ticket? Is this a constitutional issue?

Politicians don't do what they were elected to do. They sure as hell don't have a problem with the gig of scooping up money and stuffing it in their account. Check out what they have for insurance and bennies. Do you think if they had to work a "real job" where you had to balance your checkbook (even us private citizens had better balance our checkbooks or guess where we go), or maybe if you didn't do what you said on your platform to get into office you could get a boot where the sun didn't shine. Damn, even if they didn't get everything done a couple of them would be good.

Oh well, I guess the politicians are like some of the people in here. Full of shit.

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one folks. Well, enough of my rant folks.

Later.

Well, Faith, I'm sorry your convention experience was as disillusioning as it sounded. But I surely thank you for going and for giving us your report! The more decent honest citizens that get involved, the better our democracy will be.

It's confusing that all the states have different methods and rules for the primaries.

I'm happy to report to this group that my dear old dad told me tonight that he convinced another relative to vote for Barack! Our Pennsylvania primary election is a few weeks away, in late April. Ah, but you probably all knew that from the news, anyway, right? Hillary is still leading in the polls here but Senator Casey announced his support for Barack on Friday. Many of the other Dem office-holders, including the governor, have already endorsed Hillary. If Barack does manage to win here I believe it will be truly from the grassroots up, which would be all the more convincing and inspiring!

Tricia,

Yes, it really did hurt us all in the end. As I stated, it is the next moring and I am still a little bruised, but I am going to get my nails done and call it a day.

On the local level it was fun, much excitment and I can honestly say in Katy, Texas it was fair. They even told us we were not fussing enough.

But, you have to remember I live in a very conservative neighborhood, so we were just happy to be together. For us after about 8 or 9 hours that day and many hours on the 4th it was about principal.

I do believe that many people were going to report what was seen, but my question is 'will they care' just like in Florida. Many people even Texans believed they would not care.

Wherefore,

I am very happy that Obama won. We were over joyed, but the pain was seeing the process afterwards. I will continue to support Obama. I do pray that he gets on the ballot.

You know we say this is not about race, gender etc. But, when I sat in that room that is all I heard.

We need so many white, black, asian, hispanic, gay, lesbian, disabled and youth. People that were mixed started trying to change their racial identities on paper. Racial slurs were flying (from all courts). At one point in the Katy group I did say "I can't beleive what I am hearing, I thought this was not about race and gender, but this is what it is all about. Another African American female for Hillary was sitting next to me and said 'yes, it is'. The democratic party is pitting us against each other with Hispanics in the middle.

We said we were going to try to volunteer on the state level, because we DO NEED MORE HONEST PEOPLE TO GET INVOLVED.

GET OFF THE FORUM AND TRULY GET INVOLVED. WE NEED MORE HONEST CITIZENS REALLY LOOKING OUT FOR WHAT IS BEST IN AMERICA.

Remember it took me a year to decide on my candidate.

The question I ask now. Even if Obama or Clinton make it to the whitehouse. HOW WILL IT REALLY CHANGE, WHEN THE PEOPLE THAT ULTIMATELY PUT THEM THERE ARE STILL THE SAME? CHANGE OF HAT SAME HEAD!

You hit the nail on the head with that one, Faith.

And, of course, the Republicans offer a White male, more divisionary tactics by those in power who wish to remain in power.

"DIVIDE AND CONQUOR"

Keep the people off balance by pitting them against each other, never let them band together against the common enemy, the Democratic/Republican party (singular).

There's ONE PARTY with two cosmetic fronts, the major candidates ALL work for the Global Corporate/Banking elite.

Too bad people are so desperate for "change" that they fall for the lies of the media and the "chosen" candidates.

Like the millions who are so very sorry they believed Bush and voted for that S-O-B, I'm afraid you will wake the hell up one day and realize your support is for just another lying treasonous scumbag.

Why the heck can't others see what the hey is up. I got so that I never mentioned politics with my ex bf (big time union man). He kept telling me I was a "Republican" (which would kind of piss me off), which I am not. I use to be in a union, was even a steward for a while. I vote for who I think will do the best job and I certainly don't let my "union" tell me how to vote or anyone else for that matter. I feel like I have been voting for the lesser evil. It leaves this foul taste in your mouth. Like the stuff that spews out of their's like a waterfall. Is it just me???

I watched a little ditty on MTV the other day that had both Hillary and Obama on it with a bunch of our Vets (whom I appreciate very much, ) asking questions. I was surfing (I have control of the remote now, lmao). The crap that came out of their mouth was almost the same. Put them in a bag and shake them up and it sounded almost the same exact thing. I was wondering why couldn't they see that. The "when I'm in office I am going to" platform. Ya, probably eat shit and bark at the moon. Sorry folks. It probably is going to be us doing the eating and barking at the moon.

I was wondering if I was the only person that saw what the heck was going on. Maybe if enough of us keep talking something will change. Hey, if we change one and one changes one, who knows, might just get somewhere. Corporate greedy America and now the world is a pretty tough opponent. It might surprise them if enough people get fed up with their crap. Now you can bet they want gun control. Kind of like the fat cats and superstars who are for gun control and I see them being escorted by all the body guards carrying machine guns. Oh, that's another forum.

Well folks, now that I have stirred the pot, am gonna either go feed the ducks, go or something here. Have a good day.

AAhahahahaaa that was funny. Now Im gonna giggle every time I see a full moon.

I watch George Stephanopoulos every Sunday morning. Now the word FAIR has entered the game. Which is indeed ironic because now, this is going to be really nasty. Now we have oxymorons flying all over the place.

Clinton has now whipped out her gonads and has responded (to Obamas suggestion, to drop out of the race,) with "No way (in hell) will I drop out of the game". This is a republicans dream. McCain will now step up to bat, and lay out his strategy to take over.

Actually, Does it really matter who we want to win? The more I get involved, the more I hear and read and I feel in the end, it just doesnt matter who we want. I too think its all rigged. The man with the most toys, wins. or is that with the most money?

Im voting for the lesser of the evil.

Redwine,

last night I really started thinking. Honestly, even if either one of them really want change, what can they really do? The people underneath them are still the same. They want to keep their interest groups protected. Many of the politicians are in bed with each other. So, honestly how much will they be able to change.

When I first became an administrator I was so optimistic. I really thought that I could change the school system with the blink of an eye. I have had to learn that there are always systems in place and I had to learn that I have to learn the new systems and make friends with those in leadership above me while carrying out my agenda of CHANGE in our public schools. Trust me there are days that I desire to just quit and pray for all of the old heads to drop off the planet. But, I will not stop and thank God everyday for the oppourtunity to make a difference.

We really need to do that from the polictical perspective. We need to get more involved from a grassroots level. Do not sell out for comfort! We need to make this government CHANGE.

We do not want either of them to win and continue with the same ole same ole. They need to know that AMERICA TRULY WANTS CHANGE AND NOT JUST A BLACK OR FEMALE FACE ON THE SAME SYSTEM. BUT REAL CHANGE! WE NEED TO EAT AND FEED OUR KIDS. WE NEED TO LIVE.

........for example. Joe Lieberman is now a republican. I had to laugh

and how sad is the world when the head of the family has to decide whether to feed his/her kids or buy gas...and where will we get money for our medicine??....They , the politicians, our leaders, have forgotten about us, the people. We have little to no money left after gas, food, insurance, medicine. (one of mine is 200.00 a month. That should be against some kind of law) and they will add to the sadness by raising our taxes.

The world has gone to hell in a hand basket. If we dont stand up for SOMEthing, we will fall for anything.

OK, fed the ducks, crappy day out, I'm back. Maybe I'm just addicted to people who have a mind. That's a compliment to you all. Or maybe I'm not into the oh baby what can I do for you, geezzzzz, give me a break. Like you need directions from me??

Isn't that the point Reddwine? They keep the animosity's running at a high level. We are busy fighting with each other. They are busy screwing us over in any way they can keep us down. A lot of us are just bending over and smiling. Ream me some more Uncle Sam. Tax me a little more, I have more money than I know what to do with. I need bigger government in my life. When I'm not paying attention take a few more of my rights away, hell I won't notice, and when I do is too late. Taxation without representation, what happened back then. Sound familiar. Maybe we need to have a plain old tea party. Aw, forget the tea, lets throw a few politicians in the water and see who climbs on who to get out of the water. Anybody want to bet on that one?

Hey, we could have one heck of a reality TV show on that one couldn't we. Space it out over a few weeks. Oh my, lol, here we go. Wonder how many people would tune in for that one.... I think I just might have a high rated show here. Give me the money, lol.

I know I say we for me and no I don't have a mouse in my pocket. (That's what my dad use to ask me all the time, "What do you mean we, you talking for someone else or you got a mouse in your pocket?")

Might want to check out the CHAT OPV theory concerning how AIDS was spread from a Belgium research station in the Congo, think it was called the Lindi Camp or something like that. The camp didn't start AIDS, but they probably gave a huge push on spreading the disease in the vaccine (OPV or oral polio vaccine). If you want to do a little more checking out on AIDS try checking on Michael Morobey. Quite a few years ago I did some research on it. I know it certainly opened my eyes.

The first time I ever voted it mean't something to me after that it was all talking heads...I voted for Reagan in 84 because one day I was out at the Santa Barbara airport hanging out with a friend of mine and the Air Force One chopper was overhead with Ron and Nancy onboard he looked out at us and I flipped him the bird It was great he had this shocked look on his face..My friend was really freaking out there I was this big smile on my face flipping off the president of the U.S.of Whatda****? He flipped me off back and we laughed at each other..I wasn't arrested not even stopped, my friend didn't get fired..I did lose a good job later on I was going to be cleaning the ranch while they were away..Company truck, good money, supervisor job..But then I cracked some dirty joke that I was going to sell Ron and Nancys dirty underwear to Larry Flint so I got fired before I ever started..And there was this certain importance about living here Geeze! You couldn't go down to the beach without running into the secret service or media giants it was really something I got into alittle trouble with them one day because I wouldn't let the chopper carrying Larry Speakes land where I worked I actually got under it and would not let it land I was tossed to the ground and questioned...Anyway I'm alittle high and rambling but I'll get there someday....It used to matter last night I was watching WGN News and there were showing Hillary in Hammond Ind. where I'm from they were saying that it's the first time in 40 years that a major canadate has been in Hammond the last time was Robert Kennedy, and I just about I felt a rush through my soul because I was there klutz me somehow fell on the car and it stopped and Robert Kennedy asked me if I o.k....And here they were 40 years later talking about him..My mom was telling me that the motorcade stopped at the Yankee Inn Tavern in North Hammond and there were all these steel workers in there older fellas just about fell off their chairs when Bobby Kennedy walked through that door..That's when it mattered maybe back then you could get through to someone change the world with your dreams......Then I grew up. This is the first time in many years where my vote has value to me this is something I really gotta think about..When I read that statement about the races and the mexicans in the middle something took me somewhere else..Today I was in my favorite grocery store Chapala Market it's a Hispanic store not many white people go in there and that's one of the reasons I like it because, yes white people piss me off their ass*oles and I'm white too but grateful I look like Jerry Garcia if he wasn't dead I'd be getting laid.. Anyway I've been going there quite a while now I feel so comfortable in that store it's unreal..Today was alittle different I felt alittle aniexty and this older African American fella walked in I wasn't totally sure but I think he might have been this old retired Santa Barbara cop nicest guy you ever met..He had the meanest look on his face when he looked at me, I took a double look and I looked away after that and I thought it's got something to do with all this shit that's going on, the guys girlfriend or wife smiled ear to ear at me and said hello..He probley said something to her like "Why the next big white guy I see is going down.." and there I was.. it's going to get ugly it has a 1968 feeling to it...Vietnam Iraq....And Obama reminds me of Robert Kennedy..There's hope for many people and I hope it's for all people through his eyes..But theres some slimmey shit going on theres bad talk and every bodies believing it and the shit is going to hit the fan we have to remember that no matter what happens we are all together in this life..

In the end it is not about who is the most qualified or the most competent it is about what makes the best story for the Liberal run media.....the media has been manipulating the process the whole time they even are offering unsolicited advice to the candidates, Obama will get the nomination not because he is the most qualified but because in the end the First Black President makes a better story than the First Female President...

First of all...I didn't realize Hillary was female (ha ha sorry there, attempt at humor)....secondly....have you ever thought that perhaps the reason the press is so in love with Obama is because they have seen this game played before and know what might be right????

If the democratic party does not get it together. McCain will win. The democrates look bad as a whole at this point.

If the democrats are so worried McCain will win, why not do something about it? I don't play into partisanship BS but, I too cringe at a McCain win. Have you seen this?
