| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 4/28/2008 12:20:36 PM | I've never found a maggot in my food but I was once out to dinner with the family at a large chain restaurant specializing in seafood. They brought out my daughter's salad with TWO LIVE FLIES! So disgusting. Worse yet the restaurant didn't do a mad scramble to try to rectify the situation. (manager was RIGHT THERE when it happened) If they had tried to make the situation right I would have let it go but they didn't. I filed a complaint on this website that helps you create a letter to send to the company. Mainly I wanted them to know about the situation and how it could have been handled better. Regardless of whether they'd handled it well or not, I will NEVER eat there again. The only difference is now I make sure to warn others if they talk about eating there. | |

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 4/28/2008 2:18:42 PM | can I just answer from the subject question? Thanks....
besides working a lot in agriculture and seeing all kinds of critters in truckloads of grains headed for mills, brewery's etc, I've knowingly eaten meat with maggots on it as a sort of practice if you will.
When drying meat outside it is not always possible, at certain times of year, to be able to keep flies off of the meat, even with a good smoke under the drying rack. It is inevitable that one finds a few miscellaneous maggots that don't really develop much into anything as they dry with the meat. I've never seen it cause any illness.
....and if you think that's gross watch "Into the Wild" and see what happens when a person doesn't know such things and can't get past what they think "food" is.

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 5/1/2008 5:48:57 AM | You know, I was just thinking my rats would probably love a maggot or two. The hazards of animal flesh and flies. You do know they hire people for min wage at fast food places. Not everyone is motivated to do the best for customers, not everyone is a rocket scientist.
If I found anything in my food I'd bring it back and complain. Hopefully the can fix the problem. If they gave me attitude about it or it looked like the didn't care to fix the problem...I'd never eat there again. AND, I'd tell everyone I knew what happened.
Vote with your wallet. Their bottom line comes from what they produce.

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 5/2/2008 7:30:52 AM | | I had a similar experience.. I once found a couple of live weevils in my food. I picked the bigger one out and tossed it, but the smaller one disappeared into the food before I could grab it. Well, I was hungry and broke; money was tight and I didn't want to waste the food. So I just ate it. It was the lesser of two weevils. | |

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 5/2/2008 11:21:03 AM | What would I do? I'd eat it. A maggot would be the healthiest thing on KFC's menu.
At least you'd get some protein without crap transfats all over it, even if it was unintentional.

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 5/3/2008 2:12:32 AM | I have a weak stomach so I'd probably begin to gag and maybe puke...
After watching the show Survivor Man though...I dunno...apparently insects are really high in protein or nutrients cause that guy eats bugs all the time...
Bottoms up. | |

They are really nice in a stir fry, but its still hard to wrap your head around the fact its a grasshopper....

I actaully did find a maggot in my food, tested from the health board and nothing was done about it on there end. My daughter got really sick and I am turned off of chicken from anywhere, fast food all together is really hard for me to even try and eat now. finding the maggot on the food is really disgusting but did you eat it? it's this way, the maggot was dropped from a fly not having a chance to touch anything dirty if you know what i mean. all you had to do is remove it from where you found it, take it to the manager and show him or her. your daughter may have gotten sick because just seeing that would upset anyone's stomach if they had the thought of eating it.
didn't you see on those survival shows people eating maggots, bugs, and raw animal organs? my brothers would have said "mmmm protein" and end up eating it, but then again my brothers aren't really normal, i'm the normal one of the bunch
no but all kidding aside, all you had to do was let the manager know that you found that in your food. what he or she would have done was either given you your money back or replaced what ever it was on.

I once found a live caterpillar in my salad. I just took it outside and set it free on a bush, then came back and finished the salad. The coworker I was lunching with seemed to lose his appetite at that point.

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 6/29/2008 2:56:24 AM | Sounds like an urban legend. Largely because it is and an old one at that, the most common KFC one. The second most common one is that they use genetically modified chickens with no head.
Thousands of references to KFC and maggots: http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=kfc+maggot&meta= No heads legend: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/food/kfc.asp
The moral here is that people lie.

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 6/29/2008 7:07:24 AM | I would ask the maggot to move over so I could get in on the food also, after all I'm paying and the maggot isn't. I would call the staff and other customers over and show them then ask for the manage as to what he is going to do about this in writing, then take your chicken and call a health inspector for others safety and take it to a lawyer. I would short the shares in KFC....uccck.....their chicken lost it's appeal 30 years ago. Jim | |

| If you found a maggot in your food what would you do Posted: 7/24/2008 3:06:01 PM | Ultimately the maggot changed your life for the better - you stopped eating fast food. You owe Colonel Saunders a big fat thank you.
Did you know that the POWs in WWII who ate the maggots in their food had better health than those that didn't. They were getting much needed protein that was missing from a prisoner's diet. Just a tid-bit.
