| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 3:18:26 AM | I read the online written version. If it was from his own mind and his own hand, and details of his personal life he mentions therein reveal that it must be; America hasn't, since possibly the Kennedy's, had the opportunity to utilize such brilliant raw material for President. He understands the need to heal an entire limb of the body of the nation before it can become all that it can be. The need for good schools and not more jails. You can go ahead and waste your opportunity by choosing more of the same, more of what you've already had more than enough of. But that would not provide the change you must have, the medicine you must take, to survive the difficult times you face. If he should be in office and America for any reason finds itself unhappy with his performance do you think he will last long there? His won't be the lot of the seemingly unimpeachable gang that exist there now. | |

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 6:32:10 AM | It's amazing, kind, of, how the Obama detractors all say the same thing ..........the "tax and spend liberal" schtick. Reagan, and both Bushes have bloated the federal bureaucrocaries enormously and put us in deep debt .........and the talked the talk about tax and spend liberals, too. These guys are like sheep, all with the same baaaaaaaa! sound. Too much Republican radio? | |

My God, If this man doesnt become President of this country then I dont know whats wrong with the American People!
The American People have little to do with who's voted in.
Do you see Ron Paul in any of the press. NO....and yet he IS the peoples true choice.
Why? Because the press is controlled by an elite group of people.
Obama.....on Yahoo U.S. "Obama losing in Polls" bla, bla, bla. "Polls" hahahahahahaha.
You mean like the 'polls' in Florida that voted in 'governer' Bush. Bush is a governer. We all know it was fixed. He's not a democratically elected president. Nope. He's a governer.
Obama....on Yahoo Canada " Obama gives a historic speech"
I listened to the speech. Awesome.
Point me to a speech by any of the current candidates that has the depth and breadth of that speech.

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 8:25:23 AM | The most amazing candidate in decades ?
That's not exactly how I'd label him. That's far more a reflection of how society has demanded far less from leaders than we used to.
What I see is a man with some amazing political potential, and a personal history that's quite constant from an early age. His accomplishments to date, for all that was aligned against him in his youth, are impressive. You cannot take that away from him.
From a young man serving ice cream at a local store, to a potential presidential candidate for the Democratic party, and so many impressive stops along the way.
He's managed to ignite an interest in politics, in a country where that noble road has been left by far too many that have grown cynical with the reality they've faced for far too long.
He's been attacked , on every front, by some people for many reasons.
This is part of the political process there, and that's a cross all must bear on the road to the White House. Obama's no different.
It's how one faces those political "stations of the Cross" that define the man, and give insight into his character. In hearing this speech, I see someone that's addressing one of the most difficult and emotional sides to the American psyche - race. That field of discussion is filled with the emotional minefields of two hundred plus years of history, and can destroy some who embark upon that journey should they not realize the task they are about to undertake.
There is too much fear, too much misunderstanding , and too much history to justify fear and suspicion on all sides of the issue.
And so, at this crossroads, he stands there and speaks his thoughts on the matter.
I don't think it will change the minds of some, for this issue is indeed in many ways a question of black and white on so many levels. I think if you had doubts before, you will still have them.
If you didn't, and you were an Obama supporter - nothing's changed either.
"As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me,"
For me, that's quite a telling remark about his character.
He's at a point where he's in a close race, and he's been under massive attack on this story lately. I imagine he could have said this wasn't the man I knew, and I detach myself totally from him. That might save him some votes, for some. As a test of character, one of those "profiles of courage" that men must face in politics - this would be a failure.
What he does, remarkably, is stand there and say this man has been important to him. While disagreeing with that side of his character, he still sees the bigger picture of what he was able to accomplish, even with that aspect of his personality.
I do have a great respect for his ability to have the courage , compassion, and character to take that stand, and to accept that sometimes we are less than perfect as human beings.
"Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely -- just as I'm sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed."
This is the essential point here.
I'm sure that applies to all of us, perhaps even with workmates, friends, lovers, and even perhaps family members. One has to measure all aspects of a man's character, and then decide if the good outweighs the bad.
I'm quite sure some of us have even had that same Judgment Day imposed upon us by others, with mixed results.
"....to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns -- this too widens the racial divide and blocks the path to understanding."
This is the Great Divide that must be conquered, if the journey is to continue. We can't change the past, but we have been given the gift today to start to change the future. We can split apart into two camps, and spend the rest of Eternity fighting one another, lost in our fear and misunderstanding, and still fighting the battles of yesterday for all of our tomorrows.
Or we can address them, and try to realize the truth that this is a burden we can no longer afford to carry , and one that's slowed progress with it's great weight.
America's house has been divided for far too long, and it's time to see if this is something that can be overcome. It won't be overcome if either side is alone in it's decision to face the challenges that are required to do it. It's going to require everyone to open up their hearts to accepting the challenge, and joining together.
Is this one of the best speeches ever given in American politics ?
No. That list is a lengthy one, and hard to easily beat by anyone - even Obama.
What it was , at least to me, was a very well spoken and deeply personal view of what drives this man, and how he sees America. In listening to his words, even as a foreigner, he addresses some fairly difficult subjects in a refreshingly different manner. I get the feeling he spoke from his heart on the manner, without betraying anything we've come to expect from him as a human being.
In a way, this discussion of Wright is much like the discussion of a shared American history. One cannot look away from the imperfections of either, but one cannot lose sight of the bigger picture either. In both cases, one must observe and measure the good and bad - and then decide to pass judgment based on the totality of what you see and value.
In looking at American history, the good easily overcomes the bad, over time. For every moment of despair, of fear, of injustice , America's come through it all rather well. Focusing only on one without the other, is to misjudge the entirety of what's there.
There's still a long road ahead, and we will have to wait to see where it all leads.

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 8:42:22 AM | "Tax and spend" refers to feel good social programs. Spending on defense is in the U.S. Constitution. Social programs is a waste of money. They don't work. It's been proven over and over again. Most of the federal expense from last year was Social Security. A program that both Dems and Reps agree doesn't work.
Ethanol....a liberal idea that actually takes more energy to make than it provides. Socialized medicine... proven time and time again it doesn't work. It's actually not that expensive to provide for your own insurance. # There are free clinics in every major city. # Give a tax break to companies that provide health care.
And man-made global warming....the biggest bunch of bull since tree hugging caused a loss of production of American oil. Most scientific reports state there is more ice coverage in Antarctica than there has been since they started measuring. And the Arctic is +/- 1%. And world temperatures are exactly where they should be. Just another lie to line the pockets of government leaders.

I really dont see eye to eye with any of them, but I would vote for Obama before I would vote for Hillary, it will be a sad sad day to see the downfall of this great nation if that happened. I agree with Ehtanol and the socialized medicine comments from above, but my friend you are completly wrong on global warming. I have my bachlors in Environmental Studies (yeah a republican environmentalist..go figure) and that my friend is very real..eh, to hell with em all..(specially Ron Paul)..Willie for president!

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 10:23:49 AM | | Blacksheep I read your post. what exactly is it about his speech that you find so amazing? because he articulated black resentment of whites for historically bad treatment? because he excused Dr Wright by saying that he is merely a product of his environment? that he never addressed what his church not just his pastor believes? Black Liberation Theology is based on the premise that up until its creation most religions were taught from a racist perspective....he also never addressed the mission statement of his church...Black Community and a loyalty to Africa, nothing about America or any other Americans besides the African-Americans mentioned in his churches mission statement..it is easy to say the right things but the proof is in how he lives his life, like my Mom say action speak louder than words..throughout his career he has concentrated primarily on bettering the Black Community and even worships in a church that preaches to that. America is much more than that... | |

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 11:48:51 AM | If Obama really wanted to sell himself as an agent of change and bring the races together, I think he should have made a Bill Cosby-like speech.
He should have challenged these assertions that studying in school is a "white thing".
He should tell people to stop blaming long dead people for the problems of today, keep the history alive yes, but getting back at white people for sins they didn't commit only keeps you stupid and promotes the continuation of racism.
Accepting welfare because you think it is owed to you will never get you respect, only scorn.
Respect must be earned, Americans respect men like Colin Powell and most were very disappointed that he declined to run for president, that's how far this country has come in 45 years, yet people like Jeremiah Wright, Jesse Jackson, & Al Sharpton still beat the drum about how terrible this country is...I'm sure Rev Wright makes a nice living from his America hating rants, at the expense of his flock, just like Jesse and Al do.
Blacks should be proud that Condi Rice is the face of American foreign policy, instead of calling her a "sellout" along with others like Colin Powell, and Clarence Thomas.
Are they considered sellouts because they embraced the American culture of study and hard work and succeeded?
What did they sell out? the idea that blacks are perpetual victims or children that have to be taken care of as the Dems imply?
Every other ethnic group accepted that precept and all have succeeded. Unfortunately many of the black churches thrive on perpetuating victimhood which do their parishioners little good outside of allowing them to vent.
Obama blew it, he showed himself to be just another politician that spouts pretty words, yet doesn’t live by them.

f Obama really wanted to sell himself as an agent of change and bring the races together, I think he should have made a Bill Cosby-like speech.
I think we heard two different speeches , then.
The church contains in full the kindness and cruelty, the fierce intelligence and the shocking ignorance, the struggles and successes, the love and yes, the bitterness and bias that make up the black experience in America.
ut for all those who scratched and clawed their way to get a piece of the American Dream, there were many who didnt make it those who were ultimately defeated, in one way or another, by discrimination. That legacy of defeat was passed on to future generations those young men and increasingly young women who we see standing on street corners or languishing in our prisons, without hope or prospects for the future. Even for those blacks who did make it, questions of race, and racism, continue to define their worldview in fundamental ways. For the men and women of Reverend Wrights generation, the memories of humiliation and doubt and fear have not gone away; nor has the anger and the bitterness of those years. That anger may not get expressed in public, in front of white co-workers or white friends. But it does find voice in the barbershop or around the kitchen table. At times, that anger is exploited by politicians, to gin up votes along racial lines, or to make up for a politicians own failings.
The fact that so many people are surprised to hear that anger in some of Reverend Wrights sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour in American life occurs on Sunday morning. That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change. But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races.
If you read that speech again, you'll see he's quite clear in saying that this anger is there, in certain elements of the black community, and it's both a motivating factor for change - and a problem.
And right after that , he quite correctly asserts that this same type of anger exists in much the same way in other communities - including the white one.
Even looking at posts here, at POF, you can see he's right.
I've seen posts here that say , essentially, that what he's saying is right.
" I came from immigrant stock, and I faced many of the same problems - and I never did this , or that."
" I'm white, and I face discrimination all the time."
" How come you can't be proud of being white ?"
And many others along the same line.
In fact, a similar anger exists within segments of the white community. Most working- and middle-class white Americans dont feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race. Their experience is the immigrant experience as far as theyre concerned, no ones handed them anything, theyve built it from scratch. They've worked hard all their lives, many times only to see their jobs shipped overseas or their pension dumped after a lifetime of labor. They are anxious about their futures, and feel their dreams slipping away; in an era of stagnant wages and global competition, opportunity comes to be seen as a zero sum game, in which your dreams come at my expense. So when they are told to bus their children to a school across town; when they hear that an African American is getting an advantage in landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed; when theyre told that their fears about crime in urban neighborhoods are somehow prejudiced, resentment builds over time.
Like the anger within the black community, these resentments aren't always expressed in polite company. But they have helped shape the political landscape for at least a generation. Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism.
Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze a corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices, and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the few over the many. And yet, to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns this too widens the racial divide, and blocks the path to understanding.
And it means taking full responsibility for own lives by demanding more from our fathers, and spending more time with our children, and reading to them, and teaching them that while they may face challenges and discrimination in their own lives, they must never succumb to despair or cynicism; they must always believe that they can write their own destiny.
There's an anger, fear and frustration that's at work across America. It's not a black thing, nor a white thing. Lately, it's an American thing. It's something that's not even uncommon anymore at POF in the forums, across racial lines.
It's always someone else's fault.
Without those "liberals" , without those "racists" (both sides) , without those "Feminazis" , America would be a much better place. Eliminate them, and it would be Heaven across the land. There's that "gay agenda" , or "Commie world control by the Useless Nations".
And meanwhile, the legacy of the working and middle class slips away each day, taken from you by those who profit from your divisions to increase their power and wealth.
When 9/11 happened, just for a brief period of time, the world saw a different America was in fact possible. Faced with that horror, and that outside threat, you came together so tightly that one could not have slipped a business card between you. You were all, for that one defining moment, Americans first and foremost.
For days after that event that shook all of us, that was one thing that helped to balance out the tears - there, and across the world.
And then, like those two towers, it crumbled. Another legacy of that day that was lost....
I hear a lot of people like Rush Limbaugh and Hannity ,and other conservative talking heads, that remind me of Wright when they speak. In fact, if you made them up as a black man, and put them in a pulpit instead of a TV studio - you'd probably say the same things about them as you do about Wright.
Funny how their skin colour makes them different in how they are judged, isn't it.
One speaks the truth, and the others an angry racist.
So before you pick up that first stone, perhaps it might be better to cast some thoughts towards this attitude.
It takes as much time and energy to build walls, as it does to build bridges. To build a bridge successfully , you start from both ends and work towards the middle.
In another time, another man from Illinois spoke to a nation, in a time of great division and uncertainty about the future. It didn't look promising, but he saw beyond the present into the potential of the future.
We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.
- Abraham Lincoln{quote]
When those better angels are embraced, as they so often have been over your history, there's nothing that can stop the combined forces of their power.

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 2:19:10 PM | MG, you are correct in that I did not see the same speech you did, however I did read it.
Therefore I was not influenced by the emotion and the pretty words as they flowed from his mouth in the elegant manner in which Obama is known (and rightly so) for being able to speak in.
No sir I looked at those words in black and white for what they really said.
“In the white community, the path to a more perfect union means acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of black people”
In other words….. It’s white peoples fault black kids are failing in school, It’s white peoples fault uneducated black kids can’t get a decent job, It’s white peoples fault our prisons are full of black criminals, It’s white peoples fault predominantly black cities and neighborhoods have the worst crime rates, It’s white peoples fault predominantly black cities and neighborhoods have drug related problems, It’s white peoples fault predominantly black cities and neighborhoods have gang related problems, It’s white peoples fault there are so many black single moms on welfare, It’s white peoples fault that welfare, and quotas, and set asides haven’t worked, It’s white peoples fault for all of the issues that the black community is having.
Someone once said that a con man's job is not to convince skeptics but to enable people to continue to believe what they already want to believe.
Like the Soviet show trials during their 1930s purges, Obama's speech was not supposed to convince critics but to reassure supporters and fellow-travelers, in order to keep the "useful idiots" useful.

It;s like the abused wife who gets a chance to get out of her situation and into a healthy one, but declines it and sides with the abuser, only to get beaten up again that night.
What can you do with such people. You can't shoot them. What can you do?
|
| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 3:05:02 PM | What can you do?
You can't fight hate with hate. The only way to fight hatred is with love.
Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it. Martin Luther King Jr.
That's a timeless message, but one easily overlooked by Man.
In some ways I've got a unique view on this, thanks to who I am and where I live. You see, as an English white male, of European descent, and a strong Federalist - I actually represent what the majority of people are here in Canada.
But where I live ?
I'm a member of a small minority, perhaps ten percent or less.
So I'm a majority and a minority at exactly the same time.
If I walk east or west, until I hit a border, and cross it, something happens. If I take of these "filters" I have over my eyes, from living here, and look back at my province of birth - I see a different reality. Removing that experience and understanding, I see a majority of people I cannot even begin to understand.
These separatists, that want to break up a country I love so much. (less so lately,I'm talking more about the past now). They see my mother tongue as a danger. (again, less so today). They see history in a totally wrong way.
Then I put those glasses back on, and go back home, and look around.
And it all makes a lot of sense. Looking outward, I see a far different view of life, and culture. I see some great misconceptions about my province.
The strange part is that both are lies, and both are true. At exactly the same time...
My ex wife was a strong separatist, and yet we were easily a couple. That aspect caused no problems whatsoever in our lives.
My ex sister in law ( an intelligent woman, and a good one) , when I first visited the family, asked if everyone had to speak English now - even knowing my history of living here all my life.
One member of the family, one time, used kind of the language equivalent of the N word here, in front of me, after perhaps ten years of knowing me - referencing Quebec anglos as a group.
So when I hear some people like Obama, or Faith's words, I do totally understand where they are coming from when they try to address this issue that so often divides and defines us. In my own cultural way, like them, I'm "biracial".
Both of those "two solitudes" are within me, and I understand why that is in a very unique way because of all this. I wear both hats with ease, and I can see that they are simply both projections of different realities that exist at exactly the same time depending on where you stand - and what you've seen and lived.
Both are true, and yet at the same time lies.

NOPE ... UNFORTUNATELY, white AND black children are failing in school ... UNFORTUNATELY, white AND black children can't get decent jobs ...
**And because I work for the corrections system, I can personally attest to the following: UNFORTUNATELY, white AND black are filling our prisons in record numbers ... UNFORTUNATELY, white AND black cities and neighborhoods have increased crime rates ... UNFORTUNATELY, white AND black cities and neighborhoods have increased drug related problems ... UNFORTUNATELY, white AND black cities and neighborhoods have gang related problems ...
**And because prior to working for the corrections system, I worked as a home health nurse where my clients were predominantly on Welfare, I can personally attest to the following: ACTUALLY, there are relatively few "black single moms" on Welfare. ACTUALLY, Welfare is predominantly "white" and more and more related to our war casualties and returning injured war veterans. ACTUALLY, poor white communities are in worse shape than poor black communities often because the poor white communities are predominantly made up of ... (you guessed it) ... the WELFARE population!!!!

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 5:40:25 PM | Due to my travel schedule, I was able to see and read Obama's speech just today and I must say he knocked it out of the park.
I think he addressed this issue honestly and with insight into the larger issue at hand here which is the racial divide and the anger that is fueling this and many other controversies.
I may not agree with any of his political policies but I must say he handles issues like few politicians can.
I put Hillary in his position and she will come out "fighting" and spewing disdain and poison with every word for her critics. She would strike down all her enemies until they relent or hate her more, both is acceptable to her as long as she gets what she wants.
I put McCain in his position and he will just ignore it and say "I am a war hero and fundamentalist Islamic extremism will be defeated" to distract people from the issue at hand.
People who still have fear and anger at the possibility of Obama being president will continue to hold onto these negative emotions no matter what is said or done. I think this is what drives things like this controversy or the whole he is a Muslim stories or some of the amazing crackpot things I have seen on this post of him being part of some conspiracy to take over the world as in partnership with Osama Bin Laden. This Dr. Wright issue is no different. It is based on fear and anger.
I for one am tired of these things running our politics for 8 years. I am glad with his speech today that he shows me that a leader is out there that is ready to transcend those negative and limiting emotions.

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 11:09:22 PM | ...in general, Obama's speech was profound and insightful.......he tried to get across on how the "mechanics" of racism is perceived within the sphere of the "black" inner city society such as what comprised by much of the congregates of his church.
....but what is less clear is how he (now as a serious candidate for the US presidency) stands in relation to what he has been witness to for the past 15-20 years.........he has denounced the various inflammatory speeches against the US made by wright (but not wright himself who made the speeches), and this is what is unsettling to some white voters!......in other words, its as though there are pre-conditions to Obama's vow of denunciation!
...the reality is that there are many more pastors like mr. wright in the black churches who are severely embittered and delivering speeches to their congregants as though the racial climates (for blacks) were like they were back in the 1940's, 50's................and although i could understand why they would still feel this way, i think that they are doing a serious disservice to a new generation of young black men/women who are far less likely to have encountered the same degree of racism, but whose minds have been now 'primed' by these disingenuous preachers (such as wright) to distort or skew their outlook even from the outset such that it may serve to short-circuit their natural impetus to persevere in the face of adversity......thus leaving many individuals in a state of socio-economic malaise....and this is the injustice of what someone like mr.wright has been perpetrating!....Obama may have acknowledged this indirectly in his speech but whether it will be to the liking of the voting public remains to be seen!
......does this speech say what Obama really stands for?.....i don't think it does, although he speaks of unity what does that really say?.......does it say that all other previous presidents did not favor unity of sorts!....what is to make us believe that he has some secret formula to resolve (or significantly improve) race relations other than his charisma?...........i doubt it!....IMO, Obama is simply "in fashion" he is the "in thing" at the moment, resonating well with many of the Dems (at least in the pre-wright period!).....but what is he about!.......if he is historically for the same batch of entitlement programs that his liberal predecessors have been for then there is little substance to his charisma!...all we will have is more of what hadn't worked in the past!
...the way i'm seeing it, Obama's charisma and idealism reminds me more of Jimmy Carter in the late 70's who was campaigning on the heels of a 'bad' republican administration that was mired in scandal and controversy...................and we all know what happened during his 1 term!

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/19/2008 11:27:13 PM | The much touted racial divide in Mississippi was totally overstated and doesn't take into account the FACT that 25% of HRCs White vote was Limbaugh Republican Crossovers.
Reagan democrats do not exist.
The REAL conflict here is between the DLC (Democratic Leadership Council), PAC funded Democratic Party Insiders VERSUS a Moderately progressive Democratic candidate. He wants to lead a revitalized Party to victory. He wants to expand the Party, put out the tentstakes, to include the more genuinely progressive majority.
The DNC has been running this scam since 1967.
Any candidate that won't take ALL the money gets "Dean screamed" and Jerry Brown "moonbeamed" out of the equation.
That is the only thing going on... the rest is smoke and mirrors. Transnational corporations (megapharms, energy, war profiteers) have NO LOYALTY to America or her people, but rather than be considered potentially hostile foreign powers, they enjoy SUPER CITIZEN status. They will not go quietly into that dark night, eh?
Clinton is up to her neck in PAC money and Obama won't touch it. This grassroots, internet methodology for raising money and campaigning, is our LAST CHANCE at an end run around the formidable opposition of these Corporately influenced Washington insiders.
Although Wright is actually RIGHT and is only reflecting what many Black people think, Obama had the dignity not to pull a Clinton, and throw an incovenient supporter under the bus.

He could have rented a hall somewhere, a large one, and made sure a mixed audience of his supporters were present. A rainbow coalition of adoring fans...
A speech delivered dramatically, and with pauses for the cheers of support that would embrace him in waves. A camera panning around to focus on the whites and blacks supporting him....
Find a modern Leni Riefenstahl, and shoot it all in a style that would amplify the message a thousand times.
He didn't.
He stood there, in front of the cameras, and spoke from his heart in a rather restrained manner about his vision of America - and this controversy.
I greatly admire that type of ability to talk almost one on one with America, when he could have turned it into an all out media event.

Anyone who really blieves that Obama writes his speeches without any assistance or advise is delusional...his speech was typical of his campaign, he deflected without actually committing to anything, pretty words little substance, notice his favorite words leave so much to interpretation , hope, unity, change etc.....

| Barack Obama, the most Amazing cadidate4 president in decades makes a powerful speech today 3/18/08 Posted: 3/20/2008 8:30:33 AM | simlasa, Washington is full of special interests and lobbyists. Every profession, trade, industry, etc. has them in scores. I've worked in state government for a long time...I think there are many, many, many things we can do better, cheaper and save huge sums of money.
The problem is....those huge sums come out of someone's pocket. Everyone has a vested interest in the spill from the leaky buckets, so what legislators have to do is put a lot into the bucket, knowing there is a lot of spill and a lot of hot, little hands and thirsty mouths, and hope that enough stays in the bucket to actually hold some water for those who need it.
Capitalism and government are as much at odds, I think, as religion and government.
