So the general consensus seems to be so long as it isn't her lifestyle, or she hasn't got past the nerdy high-school gig, she'd be a-okay. That and as long as she plays sex games, too, apparently.

As far as what I'm looking for? Not looking, so this isn't really in regards to me specifically. I'm just seeing where my breed sits in the desirable category.

Gaming girls a rare breed? Not so much. I run four games right now (and go to school and maintain a job and have pets and a boyfriend who doesn't game, so yes, I can balance) and of that, more than 50% of the folks I game with are female. That being said, the club I help organize (The York D&D Meetup Group) has more men than women. Often, at a meetup of 20+ people, I'm one of two women. The other woman is a new mommy so is busy with her offspring. But she doesn't appear to game much. So I'm usually alone with a large portion of men. However, that being said, the younger crowd I play with (20 - 30) is mostly women.

What do I think of gamer guys? I find they lack maturity, in general, or seem to make gaming more than a hobby. I've seen gaming groups fall apart because of childish drama. I was the only girl in the group and none of the drama had to do with me, so that tells you something. Do I date gamer guys? Of course! Am I picky? Very. But this OP isn't looking for anything. But I'm not talking about just video games. I mean gaming mostly as in table top.

I think gaming is something that'd be good. Mostly because it'd be something in common. And as long as it's understood that I don't always have to be playing with her when I do play... but I wouldn't like to never play together either.

As long as other stuff matches up it's a pretty big bonus to me. Especially being better than me or at least hold your own against me. I like it when someone actually CAN beat me. Not concerned with sex so.. that sex games stuff wouldn't even be something for me.

The other things have to match up... like actually being around my level in maturity and all that stuff too. So it's not something I just don't mind, it's something I'd love as long as the important stuff is there.

I'll agree that most guys who play D&D and similar are quite undateable. They often take the game too seriously...

If they have a "stuffed dragon head" mounted on their wall... or crossed swords and a shield along with tons of FRP "knick-knacks" all over the place...

Its just a way to waste some time... and exercise some imagination. If the games are taken any other way... its not healthy.

I haven't opened the game books in about 9 years.

But remember that your gaming group is a small percentage of the population.
So while the percentage of the gamer community night not be a huge difference in the percentage of men vs women... the gamer community is still a tiny part of society as a whole.

That'd be great for many guys I would think. Heck, I wouldn't mind a girl who was into that. It's not actually my cup of tea (D&D , WoW, and that sort of game) but still, it's more in line with what guys find appealing so it seems to me that it would be easier to find common interests.

So here's a question for the boys. I'm a gaming girl. I know a lot of gaming women. We play Dungeons and Dragons or other pen and paper games. We enjoy board games and video games. Sometimes we're even better at them than our male counterparts. I dress up for conventions, I enjoy Joss Whedon, I run far too many games and actually help organize the gaming community in Toronto. I'd even go as far to say it's a passion of mine because I love creativity and I love doing it socially.

Would you be interested in a girl who spent her leisure time pretending to be an Elven Sorcerer in Faerun, per se? In other words, do nerdy girls appeal to you? What about them does/doesn't? And if you were dating one (heaven forbid) would you try to immerse yourself in her hobbies or just stand back and let her go to town? Or would you try to convince her to try your hobbies instead of her own?

It appeals to me because I can easily relate to girls like that as far as pen and paper games, video games, computer games, novels, anime, cons, computers in general, and other "nerdy" hobbies are concerned.

It doesn't appeal to me in the sense that I have a hard time relating to the couch potato mindset that many gamers adopt over time. I like to run, swim, cycle, hike, and just get outside and do something physical on a regular basis.

I've dated a couple of great gamer girls. And they've been wonderful relationships. It's great being with someone who can share all your interests, and doesn't just humor you and let you indulge from time to time.

I myself have never dated a gaming girl. Actually I only know of one that is a distant friend of mine.

So would I try it? Sure, what the helll. I've never done it before so I would at least give it a try. I game "Dark Age of Camelot" and "WoW". So obviously those are just video games. It would have to be on my terms though. Because I sure don't want to be a healing class. I have always been a mage or an eldritch. So I would rather be one of those if I were to try it.

I can see you point though in out of the "Norm" hobbies. I skydive often, and when I meet someone and ask them to give it a try, they usually shy away from it.

LARP = The people that shy from it are mostly doing it because they think they are going to lose some sort of pride.

Skydiving = The people that shy from it are afraid that they are going to die when they have a better chance of getting hit by lightning.

Both hobbies are "out of the norm". Then again, if you change the perspective, people with "out of the norm" hobbies has a bigger potential of having a more open mind and is more accepting to things.

Just my two copper.

Last Season's "Beauty and the Geek" one of the most successful geeks (the winner, perhaps?) was a LARP enthusiast. I think that the reason he was so successful is that LARP is basically acting. I don't know if it exists, but there used to be a large and well organized LARP community in my city. A surprising number if players were female, and social events after the gaming events were a lot of fun.

I've recently gone back to my geeky roots, but more as a way of reconnecting with old friends and adding another social activity to my life. I did play WoW for quite a while, but I don't really consider that to be a social activity.

All gamers (of the pen and paper variety) must acknowledge one thing: WhiteWolf (Vampire: The Masquerade) is responsible for getting more geeks laid than any other system. Why? LARP. Which means gothy chicks in gothy clothing with single men who are pretending to be vampires. Yes, my friends. WhiteWolf has done the gaming community wonders.

Gamer girls are OK if they allow themselves a life outside the game.

Nawh. I'm talking about Vampire LARPers. There aren't a lot of women in gaming (outside of my small populace). However, there are a larger majority of female gamers in the Vampire LARP community. Oddly enough, this allows for geek boys to get laid more often than any other system.

Well if you caught me two years ago, I would have said "hells yes YES yes!:P

But I am no longer into games as I grew tired of getting picked on by girls as pathetic, weak and nerdy. Oh and the WoW addiction debt did not help either. I got myself out of debt and tried the outdoorsy stuff and that has not helped either*though it is winter*. So now I am planning on trying the traveling thing and see how that works. We all know as a foreigner, you are much more attractive and interesting then you are in ones own country. And with that, a guy that has been around is more interesting when he returns with that accent and tan girls die for.

I personally think it is cool!!
My friend just got married to a computer engineer, both of them like video games. LOL
Perfect match, and I am invited to play with them sometimes too.
Why not, it can be very fun!

Heck no! I would love to have a lady who was interested in all that stuff. Getting anyone to play a pen and paper game anymore is hard to do! Finding a female to play is twice as hard!

I'm seeing an overwhelming amount of WoW here... DAMNIT! This is an abomination! Where are the people playing real games like the good old UT or Starcraft or something like that... that... doesn't have millions of people paying with their souls to play....

Diablo by LAN ? (not Battle net)

Duke Nukem 3D used to be hillarious for LAN games...

Then there are some old Turn based computer games to play by LAN or "Hot-seat"...
Risk
Monopoly
Empire (very old computer game...)
Reach For The Stars (original DOS game... not the new junky game thats all graphics and no strategy)

************

I started into computers because I wanted to write a program to aid in keeping character records as a DM... I had mine working before D&D Core Rules CD came out... written in BASIC of all things.

The players screamed when I gave them each a printout of the weight of the stuff they SAID their characters could carry...
and the DM was smiling big time that day...

You know what game was good? Shadow Warrior. It took Duke's humor to a whole new level if you ask me. I loved the whole Chinese voice and everything behind it. So many funny lines in that.

I never got to get DN3D to work on the network though we always tried and it failed. We got SW to work though which was awesome fun. I remember playing these games and I had to have the violence filters so I didn't even get blood on the sword on SW... good thing I'm older now and get games in their full glory.

OP, girls into role-playing, SF, Fantasy, cosplay, anime, SCA, and all that good stuff are too far and few between. Would I date a gaming girl? Uh, you don't have to ask me that question even once. The answer is yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I would be sharing most of her hobbies, methinks.
