I'm not sure how the Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead could exactly be considered indie being that they were on major labels.

nice thread, loved the 90s indie scene. top picks would have to be from the early half of the decade

my bloody valentine- loveless
ride- nowhere
suede- suede
gene- olympia
slowdive- souvlaki
pulp- his 'n' hers

pretty much everything off sarah records and slumberland in the us, too.

Seems most people are listing their favorite alt rock.

That's a good point.

I clicked on this thread to nominate The Pixies "Doolittle", although I had the same thought as you did about the "indie" cred.

Still, I'm thrilled to see that others here appreciate The Pixies. Probably my favourite nineties band.

All in all, very good band choices all 'round, regardless of their "indie" status.

I just want to say thanks for all the replys to my thread and i know a lot of us have used poetic licence with the 'indie' status but all in all some great choices and even now i would strongly recommend a listen to LUSTRE by ECHOBELLY,some cracking tunes on that album,my favourite of all time, thanks again.
