Posted: 3/20/2009 12:32:33 AM | I can still remember the day I first heard the word "wanker"... as it wasn't part of our slang in inner suburban Bris in the late 60's-early 70's..
it was a friday night,,in 70- 71 maybe..
we frequented king george square from about grade 8 on...saturday mornings graduated to friday nights..
as did the intoxicants we took ..
as it was 21 yr old drinking at the time so we didn't have a pub culture.. except for hanging outside the sound machine to hear some music,,
anyway one night outside the comm bank across from the square we met some visiting young lifesaver dudes from WA.. looking for some action .. bit of a team..
we were SF'ed... and laughing at anything they said...
where are the "shows" tonight guys...
HUH?... you gotta be 21 to get into clubs...
nahhhhh ...like shows shows.. parties...

nah... don't know any...that's why we're in here annoying you guys...
.. they were using a different lingo.. but looked the same as us .. (blonde surfy types)..

huh?.. what's a wanker? we laughed back at them.. rolling on the ground, doubled up by then.. much to their bemusement...
though it got a bit ugly then with the taunts getting more serious when they explained that wanking was "pulling yourself"...well that's what we'd always called it.....
ahhhh !!??(ding)...so wanker is an insult of some sort in WA... where pulling yourself is wanking... (ding)...mmmmkkkkkkk... and you're calling US wankers.... you WANKeRs!!! ...
though, I think calling anyone a "wanker" these days has a few more meanings than eluding to a persons basic maturbation habits... , I suppose..  | |

Also, whatever you do, don't tell him that you asked for advice about his "wanking problem" on the internet. My mum tried that a couple of months ago, we havn't spoken since. | |

Anyway ...... When my son was obviously going through the "wow this feels really good" stage, I had the " Its a natural part of becoming a man" talk and the "there's a time and a place for everything" talk and voila!! No more embarassing moments in public and a happy little chappy.

Yet, as Aussies we love calling people something rather revolting

Man I have had a laugh reading this thread. Best bits of advice so far...don't even bother. Grew up in single mad catholic mum household with three brothers, two sisters, none of us got 'the talk' discounting my mum telling me to not let boys feel my breasts (and since I am very small they never have lol) and a typical medically dry fertilisation lecture. I discovered upon reading my first porn mag at 15 that I had been wanking before I can even remember...so tried to give up, lasted till next morning so I ceased being bothered. As for my three boys, probably much the same story...and in fact with the older ones when they won't come out of their room I am prone to say "stop wanking and come outa your room before I kill you" works a treat and yet we never had 'that talk'. Here's something funny, might gross some out. Got a plastic friend as an Xmas prezzy...whoohoo.....it disappeared...to reappear in my 16 yr daughters room. Some four years later....she got one for Xmas from boyfriend....it disappeared har har. Payback is fun sometimes and she still furious pmsl. Chill out girlie, better off talking about skills in emotion, action and reaction etc and how to tell the difference between lust and love than him wagging his own tail. | |

My advice do not make a big deal of it, as, as a mother some things i believe a boy's should not share with there Mum and this is one, but in saying that good if a Young boy has a open and honest and great friendship and honesty with his mother.
Let him approach you if needed i think many boys wouldnt.
Sexually boys try get it over and done with very quickly as when wanking most sensetive part is our ears " case someone is coming" lol
So it is a natural thing i am sure Mum's know when it is happening.
I do not think buying porn books is a help as, at that stage of life i still think a Boy matures late and really do not know what he is looking at.
End day a womens body is beautiful and sex should be enjoyed, and safe sex if not magnonmous ... so id promote that and be there for my son if was a women if he needed. | |
