Souvlakia

Is this a small European state or a type of food?

I enjoy singing in an acapella group. Everyone learns a different harmony and we sing unaccompanied.

Geekness hey?
I play
-computer games (Console and PC)
-board games
-roleplaying games
-miniature games
-live action games
-card games (collectible and no collectible)

I listen to Nerdcore rap and 8-bit music

I watch every science fiction or fantasy movie that comes out, as well as a ton of others

I have more sci fi and fantasy books than I have shelves to hold them, they overflow...

I am going to a costume party dressed as Spike from Buffy & Angel

I am getting a tattoo of the symbol off the power button

I have a comic collection, and a dice collection

I still have old school gaming consoles, as well as new ones

I refer to the magnetic whiteboard on my computer desk as 'Furniture Bling'

I could add so much more, but it still falls to who's definition of geekness it is... I mean I am no computer programmer or model train collector

Still, I think I am a huge geek

We may be here a while, asking a bunch of internet forumers what makes them geeky.

My room sports the following features:
- 2 computers (one of them with a processor that cost half a grand)
- a 32" LCD HDTV
- 3 games consoles
- 5.1 surround sound
- a steering wheel controller (for racing video games)
- an absolute mountain of cables snaking from one side of the room to the other

Other than that:
- This is one of 3 internet forums I regularly peruse
- I do volunteer work for the Sony PlayStation Support Centre
- I listen to music from video game soundtracks and video-game-movie-adaptation soundtracks
- I know a scary amount of theoretical physics (which I for some reason find interesting)
- I learn technical things very quickly, which has resulted in me being that guy that everyone knows who's really good with computers.

geek Definition ☆ geek (gēk)

noun

a performer of grotesque or depraved acts in a carnival, etc., such as biting off the head of a live chicken
Slang any person considered to be different from others in a negative or bizarre way, as a teenager seen as being socially or physically awkward
Slang a person regarded as being especially enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and skillful in the use of computers
Etymology: < dial. geck, fool < Du gek, madman, fool < MLowG geck: orig. echoic of unintelligible cries

Geek Hacker Definition One use of this term dates from the 1920s and referred to a carnival actor who, among other things, bit off the heads of chickens. In the 1960s and 1970s, a geek was a derogatory term given to smart social outcasts stereotyped as wearing thick glasses and plastic shirt-pocket protectors. Currently the term geek has a broader and less derogatory connotation for specialists in various fields of knowledge, including computer-savvy individuals, some of whom like to hack systems. Computer geeks, as they approach their thirties, often tend to find well-paying jobs such as system administrators or system architects.

I like making tubular exhaust systems for cars.

It looks easy at first. You have to 'arrange' four individual pipes (for a 4 cylinder engine) that maintain a small separation from each other while also following curves together around various components under the car bonnet. Also, this has to be achieved even though the first pipe starts probably 600 mm in front of the fourth one and all pipes have to be the same length and merge into one pipe at a particular point.

Then there are other considerations like making sure this bunch of pipes doesn't pass too close to components that will suffer from the significant heat radiated from these systems.
When the whole thing is welded together it has to be possible to actually remove it from the vehicle without taking the engine out . . hopefully.

I suppose I could have them fabricated but where's the fun in that.

Faux Pa.....I know it's very time consuming, even worse when each primary pipe is 2in in diameter.......that's why we use slip joints ........geez i sounded a bit geeky for a moment.

I haven't seen a great deal of the new Battlestar Galactica, well not nearly as much as I like.

Still Starbuck's a girl? that is so weird... she's got her unique traits, but she still seems so much like the old Starbuck...

Coal,
Welcome to geekdom.
Yeah, 2" primaries would increase the complication factor all right. With my car being a mid engine design and the exhaust finishing about half way along the gearbox, there's another complication that's introduced. From that point to the rear of the car is only a little over one metre, so it's difficult to find room for a muffler, let alone a decent length of final pipe.

I've kinda gone away from slip joints since using the Jet-Hot coatings as I'm a bit worried about crushing the pipes with that stuff applied and I usually want the whole system rigidly attached to the engine anyway. But yes, I reckon it's still the best method for race cars that are taken apart pretty regularly.

Ahhh . . . geekiness.

Nerds know everything and are usually academic minded. They run the country. Geeks are usually people obsessed with a certain field as many examples are shown above. Although, being a frat boy, getting drunk for weeks on end and partying 3-4 nights a week would that make you a party-geek? I'm glad I rarely drink these days, cost a fortune.

I started off with one fish tank. A few fishies in there and now have an entire room dedicated to about 30 tanks or so. Geek-factor.

I'm definitely obessed with aquarium fish and is probably a reason why I do not have enough time for anything else, including dating. But at the present I'm fairly much happy.

Cheers,

. . . dont you hate that when people answer off topic . . .

Me?
well i wear socks and sandals on weekends, always have some pens in my shirt pocket, wear a white ironed cotton shirt to work, prefer to read scientific books to fiction and dont really care about fashion and what people think of me . . . does that make me a nerd?

Hey, who cares: Geeks and Nerds rule the world !!!
