Posted: 4/3/2008 1:28:37 PM | Good post Ancient. The Government regulating this is just not going to work. As a poster said before, we hardly can regulate the things that are on the books now, never mind adding this one on.
Should the Government shut down the darn factories that make cigarettes? We have been through that before, too, it was called prohibition. I don't think it helped anyone but the mob.
Do you want to help your children? Quit smoking. Period. (I have been through addiction kicking so don't bother telling me it's hard. I KNOW it's hard to change an ingrained habit.) As a friend once told me, "stop making excuses.....just freakin'do it." | |

The reason I started this thread I was listening to CJOB and this was the topic.. I thought some of the comments I heard were interesting so I brought it here.. I do not smoke and do not allow smoking in my home.. Period.. My kids have been in the car with their Uncle and Aunt who smoke and I have expressed my feelings about it.. It's not very often the kids see them so it is not an occuring issue.. Although I still don't like the fact when the kids are in their car they still smoke even with their 3 yr old in the car seat..
I don't allow my daughter over to her friends place because the Dad chooses to smoke inside.. I respect other people choices but I don't need to allow to subject my kids to their unhealthy behavior.. My Mom even smokes outside when we come over..
Some people have the idea that their parents smoked when they were kids so why can't they.. Back then ciggerettes were not packed full of shit as they are now.. Even though the ciggerettes were packed with other garbage, the ciggerettes now have way more chemicals and just garbaage in them.. People can make their own choices but I DO NOT or want MY KIDS breathing in someone elses second hand smoke.. | |

Posted: 4/3/2008 4:22:48 PM | Diabetes is NOT reversible, people who are borderline Type 2 and are obese, may be able to go back to something close to normal blood glucose levels, but the condition always remains, and you will always be very susceptible to it.
It’s about as curable as herpes. You can control it, but it will come back. | |

but I will say this as far as smoking in Cars with kids I hated it yrs ago when my dad and Grandparents did it ,,, I do not smoke in Car or in my home when little ones are around and I'm the candle burning queen,,,
and as of April 17 I am quitting,,,, Who's with me?
I turn 50 on 16th and I dont care if the world knows ,, Im excited and the smokes are gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone here is saying it isn't harmful to the children, just that the government has no business legislating this UNLESS & UNTIL they ban smoking altogether (they won't, they love the tax dollars it generates), and law enforcement has better things to do with it's time than pulling over those smoking in the car with children. | |

Linen good luck....it sucks to quit....but it sucks more to think about not...
inch by inch i think all 3 groups have addictions and the genetic denial card has been busted all to h3ll across the board...maybe is from pushing stroller to long on the bus...lol
and saying obesity does not affect others......your right on others health except your children who learn your addiction...same crap hole as examples who smoke and drink.
setting example of hiding addiction thru gentics only increases denial.
flyin high..........bang on the nail...........in fact food addiction is probably the largest denial indeed. no denial on the "fact" either...
as i continue the patch for one more day...the last thing i want is to substitute food addiction .............hey i hate booze perhaps i should drink alcohol instead...
besides i like that cute lil dude. need puffs of smoke or hacking lil guy to esplain how i feel starting day 3................yeeeeeesh find corner to clean,,,goes gets coffee and knows will be another tuff day...........no denial in that for me
but if i want to.... i gotta look in the mirror and hope i can continue in the direction of not smokin no more.............. law or ban or what ever the heck....is not nice
but i guess i might actually be finally on the right road for myself...is all you can do...is try hard and focus on your own addiction and deal at some point in your life...
but please don't smoke with kids in cars cuz you make them smoke to...thanks for thinkin of them if your a smoker in denial of that...
one thing is the same about all three groups..............DENIAL
let's play game one of these things does not belong.........kids watchen us in denial of our own vice and leave the police to deal crime not stupidity...
we are all at risk for one thing or another kids...no human on the planet wants to hurt kids on purpose...and let kid see the weak part in that cuz it makes them a part of the solution to protect themself when they are moms and dads.... | |

They would monitor all the twinkies we eat on the street, or feed our kids - and just dole out tickets; or if they catch you smoking, another ticket?? That way the regular police could look after crime, and these guys could look after us? lmao! Just kidding here - for those of you who would be foolish enough to take this one post serious.

Posted: 4/4/2008 8:14:40 AM | It took almost 70 years to figure out that smoking was bad for you, the Surgeon General made it “official” in 1984… it wasn’t until the early 90’s that we saw any kind of smoking bylaws.
Close to 20% of the population smokes, and it’s been going down slowly.
From 1981 to 1999 the number of obese/over weight children has TRIPLED. Currently, 15% of kids under 18 are obese, and in some provinces 30% of the kids are over weight.
Is it going to take another 70 years to figure this one out?
As a bonus the cops could have a Cellulite Squad, if they could put the donuts away! | |

The offender gets the ticket in the mail (like red light cameras) and the person that sent in the picture gets 20 % of the fine as bounty. | |
