Why doesn't your education, car ownership, or income levels show on your profile?

I don't think we need to know what cars other users drive. But I am wondering if the owners ask this so that they can potentially pitch advertising for this site to help pay for this site. Let's say, for example, that many POFers drive Toyotas. If they can show Toyota this, Toyota might consider placing ads here on POF. Well, if that question keeps POF free, I am fine with it!!

My guess is that Big Fish believes them to be irrelevant and I concur completely. I also think the "smallish" [mediocre at best] pics here are a good idea. Pics should ONLY be used as general guideline I believe, not the critical "deal breaker" that the vast majority here seem to bestow upon them... JMO

most online dating sites have at least education and income level .... not that big of a deal... although many people opt for not putting their income.... as they feel it is personal information and don't want to attract or dissuade people based on how much money they make.

I was extremely surprised when I saw the "Smarts" and "Do You Have A Car" options on our profiles here ......... so, I decided to check what mine was set as ... hoping the defaults had no problems! Defaulting "Smarts" to "some college" is very interesting to say the least! My guess is that many "Smarts" are still set to this since this appears how POF has decided to default this field for all existing POFers .... and all existing POFers probably don't kow of this yet, since it does look recent.

.... when I edited my profile to view this and then set it correctly for me, I saw the "Your Income Level" option! Wow!

Is this site becoming a "find a millionaire" site now?

I realize there is shallowness with many people, but are we promoting more shallowness and gold digging with that option? There are specific singles sites for that already, isn't there?

I see that the "My Income Level" is not shown on our profiles when viewing them, so my guess is that it has just been added, and then will soon be shown on our profiles?

My vote is not to show this private information. I don't even like to put this on any form asking for this information. This borders on confidentiality issues!
... and I don't say this since my income is very low! This is just private information!

I do find it interesting that these options have been added on profiles before functionality which I have asked for in the past have not been provided. I have posted this already under the POF Suggestions thread.

In response to the collecting of stats from the POFer demographics on certain criteria ...... too many people do not fill out these criterias honestly, so how accurate are the stats?

Honestly I am here mostly for the forums now ... true quality honest people are hard to come across ....... I am seeing this more and more .......... and to run into them locally is even less likely ........ POF gives the opportunity to meet and chat with quality people from far away from where we live. But ..... filling out these criteria is not the way to find out who they are. You learn a lot about a person by the way they post on the forums and what they post to.

Just another way to make dating more complicated than it already is. I miss the days when women didn't care what educational level, job title, or type of car a man has. Wait..I wasn't around in 1889. I am a college graduate but I don't know if that makes me any smarter than anyone else. I drive a family car because although I am divorced, I have a child and do a lot of stuff with her. If someone rejects me because they didn't like my responses to those question, then she wasn't someone I wanted anyway.

Believe it or not those things do matter to some people, sad as it maybe.....if those things don't matter to you then I guess you tend to over look them on the profiles anyways.
Like before these things were added, they ask if you drink and smoke and how often..... I don't care about either as long as it's not excessive, so I tend not to look at those things right away(well now a days I don't look at much of anything on profiles as I'm only here for the forums) but still when I was looking, I know I looked at specific things first.
I did look to see if he had a job..... didn't care what kind of job or how much he made yearly but just as long as he was working... but everything you put on your profile can be a lie if you want it to be...is it right NO do people do it anyways YES....not much you can do about it
