Im an artist in Texas That one of your paintings behind you in the photo? Interesting to see a proper female picture of a man, so much art is nude women and men painted to homosexual taste. Nothing wrong with those, just nice to see a woman painting men.

I have prints of some of his paintings around my house and especially love Starry Night which I have hung up over my bed. He obviously was in a manic phase while painting it. I like it best because its so very different than his bright, sunny landscapes and portraits. I sketch and draw in pen and ink, I'm not into oils, but there's nothing more fullfilling than being into the great state of creativity where you can't stop until you finish your project..A

| new kid on the block ! Posted: 10/5/2008 4:08:21 AM | Hi satsumo . I've just joined up on this and think it's great that they have an Art forum. You all seem to be very knowlegable on Art and their forms. You seem to have a regular imputus. ( along with Americaniconlast)I have work on Saatchigallery.org of which any ctritque is welcome.http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/showdown/index.php?showpic=167947 my work is mainly the East / West unrest situation. Artist name is Terence Asquith . My fave Artist work by the way are the wall paintings found in France , Painted by a man completely alone, no discernable language, that needed colour in his life on a craggy cave wall in near pitch darkness. '' and thus man are the true creators of beauty in all that they do ''. Ps some of my work does actually SAY something but you gotta go figure..... Cheers all !! | |

| new kid on the block ! Posted: 10/10/2008 5:33:45 PM | hi Satumo Yes , I'd be glad should any of these esteemed learned people on this thread wish to intercede , so fish away all !!. Most of my Art does contain cryptic messages encoded into the work. for example, I've recently done a painting of the bombing in London ( july 2005 by ' British' Asian terrorists) whereupon passages of the Bible are depicted in Morse code by means of dots and dashes as reflections of light in the panes of glass- as it would be -when the sun hits them. My works are about " communication" ( or the lack of it). A recent work is of the Twin Towers in Dominoes - on view at Saatchi- which contains an unsavoury line or two expressing my distain at what happened. The Dots on the Domino are reflective in their number in relation to the Alphabet. I.E......Ten dots is the tenth letter of the Alphabet " J"...see ? cheers all !.......X | |

Ranks up there with Hopper, Rembrandt, Vermeer in my opinion
And in his very own way...
Some may see an "amateur" if they have never tried painting.

I also love Mark Rothko, I stared at one of his paintings at the MET for about an hour and people were actually laughing at me for it.

| new kid on the block ! Posted: 10/14/2008 1:29:12 PM | While Pollock is most known for his drip paintings, one of my favorites of his is: The Moon-Woman 1942 (170 Kb); Oil on canvas, 69 x 43 in; Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice
Currently I am collecting from several artists that are unknown. The Internet has allowed me to become an avid original art collector. :) Funds are limited and I will never own a Pollock. So I like to support self-representing artists when I can.
Two of my favorites right now are:
"Shelter" by Sharon Cummings http://sharoncummings.artspan.com/large-single-view//159276--/Painting.html
And "AbsolutÉ-serie - Autoportrai.B.o6- innerLooking.part1" by Yan D. Soloh www.yan_dsoloh.boundlessgallery.com
My tastes are eclectic. :)

I thought this was strange until I looked at 'The Death of Nelson' and now I understand prefectly. It's such a busy painting with so much happening that I would find it hard to like. The little details you describe, give it a sense of place and time. They are little, simple pictures inside an enormous complex one. It's like spotting a friend in a crowd.
I really like Mr Asquith's stuff. My favourite is probably 'Simple But Deadly'. It kind of shows how some people think about it's topic in a naive terms. Like children in a school. He's obviously very passionate about the topic, and not willing to make excuses for either side, all of which sits well with me. It's very easy to like his work, its straightforward and sincere.
Stephen Lack is an interesting painter. He reminds me of Hopper and Hockley in some ways. His work is subltle and quite unsettling, very clevely done. It takes time to work though, you have to stick with it. I just wish he was a better draughstman. I can't tell if the distortion of shapes is deliberate or not, either way it spoils things for me. He can't excuse it by claiming to be doing abstract.
The Twittering Machine, love it too. What noise would it make if you could turn that handle?

| favourite paintings Posted: 10/15/2008 1:40:45 PM | Hi everyone ! Hi satsumo. Thanks for giving my work a quick look-see and for your crtitique. Hope you noticed the American flag - in appreciation of Jasper johns ' Flag'-. My Flag is just wet plaster with old glory covered in gold leaf with 99.9 impressed into it for the reason being that even 24kt gold has a one % imperfection but nonetheless remains untarnished and won't shine any brighter [ the USA ]. AS it seems everyone has been knocking the USA for the one or two bad things she has as a great nation has done ( like every other !)and not held in adulation for ALL the good things !!..... That's why it's called " Let those without Sin cast the first stone ". SO, people only the Devilish intent and get focused on that _ yep, ..99.9 upside down . A very good day to you all in the beautiful United States from London England . Gosh I adore you American people !!!!............I'm single by the way Ladies, never married, " wouldst thou mine heart be favoured with thee less any beat be not felt in thine ".......um ...A bit of Shakespeare ................Cheers !! | |

yup, that's the one. I love that his work (without reproducing anything found in nature) remains so organic that it seems as though it COULD have. Had he not reached fame as a glass blower, he could have done well designing foliage for alien landscapes
