Washing the bed linens, etc.Page 2 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
On a "good" week once a week. Though more often then not, the baby spits up, a child over flows a pull up after climbing into my bed, someone is sick etc, which means we have weeks where the linens get washed daily. Since I hate laundry that is a very bad week lol

I wash my sheets every Saturday - I agree with the other gals that climbing into bed with freshly-laundered sheets is the best! And if I'm expecting "company," they get washed again before company gets there.

Now, I know you guys don't wash yours that often... I'll never forget the first time I spent the night with a guy I had been dating for a couple of months. I knew his ex-girlfriend, and knew they had broken up just before we started dating. I was having trouble getting comfortable, and I flipped the pillow over... and smelled hair perm solution on the pillowcase. His ex-girlfriend always got perms... so I knew it had been at least TWO MONTHS since those sheets had been laundered... I didn't even want to THINK what else was on those sheets....

If you were aware of the resident bacteria on skin, you would change sheets daily. It is estimated that the number of individual bacteria on the surface of one square inch of human skin at setting at approximately 50 million.

Sheets, pillow casings and impervious casings should be washed in 150 degrees Fahrenheit every seven days.

I saw something recently about dust mites and allergies. Dust mites can actually settle on the pillow itself through the pillowcase. What you can do on occasion to combat this is to put your pillow in plastic and put it in the freezer for about 10 hours or so to freeze out the mites.

Never tried it myself.

I wash them once a week. The idea of all those creepy little microscopic mites/bugs that accumulate in dirty bed linen is enough to make my own skin crawl. I forget what they're called but they reproduce quickly and invade your bed at night.

ACCCKKK!!! Just thinking about it grosses me out! Have any of you ever seen pictures of these things? They're soooo creepy....little tiny jaws and all.

Gee thanks for sharing the 411 Mom. It is enough to want to purchase an extra several pairs to be changed every night of the week. Yuck!

True story...a few years back, I had spent a fabulous night with a beau and decided to wash the sheets the next morning. At the time, I lived in an apartment with a laundry room. When I returned to the laundry room to retrieve my bedding from the dryer, I found the landlady and the complexes handyman outside the laundry room with hose in hand in a shell shocked state. I then discovered that my bedding had caught the dryer on fire. They wondered what I had done to their dryer. The landlady put in a claim and I got money for my burnt bedding. The beau and I had a few laughs over this escapade about our passion.

What is with all of this week or less crap? I haven't washed my bed sheets in 9 months. If you don't stink then they stay fresh forever. Plus, Febreze goes a long way, too. So, am I kidding or not?

I wouldn't be too quick on assuming that ladies are born and bred to be much more adept than men at keeping their homes clean. In my business I'm in a lot of houses and I can tell you gender doesn't play as big a role in housekeeping skills as what you may think.
Anyways, I don't think a 54 year old man that has been separated for 5 years needs to be told when to wash his bedding...makes me wonder how clean the rest of your place is.....and now that you have posted a thread telling all the women of POF that your stinky sheets keep you awake at night, are you worried that your chances of having any female company from POF just dropped significantly......in other words, how's that working for you?

Once a week , or more often in the summer .
Towels is a bigger issue for me........waaayyy too many people dont wash their towels enough , I use a different towel for my hair than I do for my body, and wash them after using them once.
Comforter cover is once every couple of weeks, and thats because little puppy sleeps on the bed with me , he likes the fresh smell.......

RedC, please be sure to stop & pick me up on the way to jdb's...you might need help getting him into the trunk to take back to your lair...
I've been curious about his sheets for some time now...he deserves nothing but the best.

OT, I am not admitting anything in this forum, but I sure will wash them more often after being reminded of the nasty little critters that might be lurking...

Between the three of us, I'm sure we can get jdb into the trunk.... hell, I'll even splurge for a trailer for him to ride in.... if he behaves, of course......

^^^ Cute as a button, that he is... He is still only 25... Is that even legal for us "oldies"?
Easy for laughinglibra & Esotericjudi, but I might get deported...

Back to the linens and sheets.... change them at least once or twice a week... pillowcases more often.
And... op... guys claim to do that as well (I DID ask them). So, this is not gender based... more like ... how to put it?
No good way about it... Dude, you need to change your sheets more often.
And, make sure to take shower regularly.

If I didn't have hairy assed pets that shed all over the damn place I'd go longer, but as it stands I wash mine every 5 days or so.

I'm curious, how often do guys REALLY wash their sheets. And if you answer...be honest

Every Saturday. Once an a great while during the winter and there's no summer heat to sweat on them then two weeks.

But it depends on the season and what you wear to bed, too. Sleep in the nude and they get washed more often. I usually sleep in sweat pants these winter days so in a week often the sheets do not even need washing but they get it anyway. And I am far more diligent about washing clothes than most.

Where the problem really lies is the pillowcase. Since it's easy to lay down in bed for a few quick minutes of rest after say yardwork, shoveling snow, or a workout. Then the sweat transfers which of course will start to smell quicker. Nothing worse than going to bed and putting your nose into old sweat. Ick. So sometimes I change those 2-3 times a week as needed.

I swear my neighbor across the hall, a woman younger than me with more energy, only does laundry once a month if that. To me THAT is disgusting. She floods the hallway with this perfume to cover the rankness of her not washing -- it's so thick I know when she has come or gone within HOURS because of that perfume smell lingers in the hall. I will never understand why instead of spending money on those perfumes she does not do a load of laundry more often. Laziness, I suppose.

I have never thought laundry is much work but then during the summers at my grandpa's cabin we had an outside old wringer washing machine -- either that or haul it into town. Now THAT is work.

Not everyone knows the full extent of the story (about the lover), but these people did inquire as to what I did to the sheets to make them ignite.

If that is considered the male version of cleaning, I think lesbianism sounds better and better!!!

I wash my bedclothes once a week. Without exception.

Of course when I have a woman over and we end up in the room that will be a different story. But until that happens I'll just wash them once a month.

Thanks for the honest answer jpn818...at least you know you should wash them before you have a women over! lol

I wash mine every week, in the summer sometimes more often and hang them on the line.

The comforter gets washed every 3-4 weeks.
