As far as welfare goes, the EIC is pretty good. Basically, if you are working full time minimum wage and you have two kids, you are below the poverty line.... so the government says "here is the money to bring you up to the line (and just to it no higher) Thanks for working"

This is a real problem that has to begin with education, inside and outside the home. We must make it mandatory that these women are given counselling and made to take parenting classes. The education must begin when these children are small. If the children are made to understand that there is more to life than boyfriends/girlfriends and doing whatever makes them feel good. Let them know they can suceed with perservance and hardwork. The mother needs to understand that she is a role-model for her children and if she doesn't want them to fall into the same traps than she must stand up and say no more. | |

Basically IMHO, the EIC is basically welfare for the working poor anyway.
HOWEVER, if you do go to line blah-blah-blah when listing exemptions, you will see that every child counts, in itself lowering you taxable income over all.
While the chart may very well only go to three children, if sayyou have 12 kids at a $1,500 . This would knock 18 GRAND of the TOTAL taxable income and possible bring you back onto the chart as the EIC does have a cap itself..mid 30'sK I believe for 2 kids. Lets face it, If your income allows you to collect an EIC you pretty much are making less then what you could in welfare in my state. ( A college project I had for sociology class was to campare a working mom to a welfare mom, In Maryland in 1990 a Welfare mom with 2 children taking ALL benefits was compatable with about 22-24 dollars an hour ...THATS 1990 money at that)

I take a lot of offense to that statement. i waited til marriage to have children, how was I to know he was abusive and going to leave me. And I have a job...does that mean my kids should have to suffer because we live in a capitalist society that doesnt help people. I dont know where you think having a kid makes you set for life on welfare, and even id you do qualify for assistance it is minimal living at best. And as far as going after dead beat dads, I can tell the state exactly where my ex lives and where he works, but I cant get support. If i dont let him see the kids though I am in jail. The system is unfair, and the reason it is unfair is people generalize that every person on welfare is like the one in the OP. I do not agree with what the OP did, and I am not saying she is nto living off the government, but you cant lump all welfare receivers into the same category and have to realize what type of soceity we live in....Do you know how many people in this country have a full time job but cant afford rent and food due to capitalism? The majority of the people who qualify for EIC don't pay in taxes, therefore the ACTC really wouldn't do them any good. In order to get a "bigger refund" utilizing the lower AGI given by the ACTC, you would have PAID IN that amount of money. Basically, the ACTC helps people who make a little more than those who qualify for the EIC. And people like the Duggars, who have oodles of kids. 
Yes, the EIC is a redistribution program. Just like Social security. You don't hear people bitching about having to hand over money to the old folks, now do ya?
We don't voluntarily pay any taxes. Furthermore, if the gov't didn't spend tax dollars on redistribution programs, the money would likely be spent on $120 hammers, while at the same time our soldiers are in the battlefield without proper gear for six months. Oh, wait! That already happens.
Politicians (our tax dollars pay those crooks, too!) are just a big of a money suck as welfare. | |

Very true about the fraud. I spent part of this tax season working at one of the chain tax preparers and I saw a lot about the EIC. You have people who know not to marry because it affects their ability to be Head of Household and changes what they can get through EIC, especially if the SO makes too much to get the EIC. One of the funniest was when we called the woman to tell her that her check was ready to be picked up (she had already filed as Head of Household) and the man who answered the phone identified himself as her husband. We flagged it as potential fraud but when she came in, she said the man was mistaken, he was really just her brother. Then we had couples come in, each to file Head of Household, but both can't be HOH. But I was really amazed at the number of people who can barely read or write, but they sure understand the tax code when it comes to get the most manipulation out of it. | |

My stance is if they (men) procreate multiple times with multiple women and have no aptitude for taking care of or supporting those children then should they not be held just as accountable? Is stating that she be sterilized really fair - and not question if the same rule applies to a slutty guy? Or is it really cool to father 12 kids with 7 different women? Same difference right? Fair is Fair right?

Because this "woman" cannot keep her legs close for 2 secs and think "hey,maybe if I'm going to be a whore and have sex with everyone I meet,then maybe I should get on birth control". If she would have just went to the doctor and gotten a birth control shot once every 3 months and she would not be in this situation.Its her fault end of story.
