I was referring to the Garam Masala when I asked if you can buy it ready-mixed.

If can find an Indian grocery store or some sort of ethnic store that sells Indian spices, usually you can find it pre-mixed.

OP knows squat

gimme a big azz'ed T-bone steak right off the grill with some Heinz 57, mashed potatoes mounded next to it with butter melting into a pool and some dark seasoned greens
finished off with some shiraz
and a bark of top quality dark chocolate (over 70%)

It's great that you are thinking of what a woman would want, but we aren't all secretive about our choices. I don't care for filet mignon, or tenderloin. I don't eat a lot of beef, but when I want a steak on the grill, I prefer a T-bone or Porterhouse. Heavily marbled makes the most tender steaks, a touch of garlic salt and fresh ground pepper, medium rare.

give me a side of grilled asparagus and a baked potato, and I'll only eat half of everything, but I love leftovers.

s'all good.

I like all steak except for any kind with a bone in it or that is excessively fatty. Tenderloin cuts are my favorite though. I choose tender over flavorful but I totally understand people who feel the opposite because my second favorite is pan seared sirloin. YUM!

hmmmm....please don't take offense but you must be dating waifs. I enjoy a real person's steak (NY strip or ribeye). And as far as the thing goes about she needs to be able to cut it with a butter knife......please keep in mind I have carved many hams and turkeys...a steak is nothing! I never grab a butter knife to cut a steak regardless of how tender it is!

I have my preferences for the type of steak I like as well but, if a man is cooking dinner for me, I will eat it and not complain. I would just enjoy the special treatment.

Ok, just slightly OT. I've noticed on this thread that quite a few ladies mentioned about men cooking for them and being "special". Seriously, do most of the men you've met are awful at cooking or it's a miracle if they ever try or what?

For the above post, cooking is easy. You'd have to be very lame or trying to do too many things at the same time to mess up - you can't keep an eye on things if you are stuck on the computer or watching Oprah.

In the first post I noticed a mention of keeping knives out of the hands of women. Makes sense to me! LOL I don't like when women make jokes of cutting off my member. But anyway, I once queried a Chinese fellow about why you don't see steaks in Chinese restaurants and he came back with a surprising yet simple logical explanation: If the cook can cut the steak for you, why would you have to do the work?

So, just cube the steak while in the kitchen and throw away your steak knives!

Two cows are hanging out together on the farm, one is reading a newspaper and says..'Damn! This mad cow thing has me worried'! The other cow says, 'I don't care about it'. The first cow is amazed and asks why not, she replies...'Because I'm a chicken'.

I can only really speak for Australia, but it's an extremely common spice here, and doesn't really require any sort of specialty store. Most decent grocery stores have it as part of their normal "little jars of spice" ranges.

As an aside I had a BBQ on the weekend, and bought a whole rump (a cut that takes in a bit of round and most of the sirloins). I cut that up thickly (mostly just to play with my new Shun knife) and liberally sprayed it with Garam Masala before putting it on the grill. Got a VERY positive response. People aren't very good at BBQing. The trick is simple - get good food! 10 pounds of thin sausages and some white bread does NOT make for good food!

Kobe beef is the best, but overpriced due to not enough on the market! The cow's are treated better then most of us humans!

I dunno about that Beachgal! lol I'm not sure if it's true of not, but I heard they take them as calves, put them in a sling, and suspend them in midair so that thier feet never touch the ground and they get no exercise, and then they fatten them up on grain and beer!

...I read about the regimen they use on those Wagyu cattle to produce that wonderful Kobe' beef. Mostly it's about the breeding they've done that produces the marbleing...but there are a few other things. Yes they do give them some beer to drink. The funniest thing I believe they do..is give the cattle massage's...that's right..someone comes in and gives the steers a massage. I personally don't think that would add to the marbeling...but hey..whatever works. I'd love to have a few of them to raise around here.. I would love to have the high quality steak they produce compared to the "choice" and "select" grades we usually see in the supermarkets.

OMG...Dave, did you check out the prices while you were there? I copied this about my favorite steak:

Ribeye
Reference No:010101
Excellent marbling and flavor. This part comes from the ribs in the back of the cattle. Having similar texture to NY strip steak, but it is finely textured even more and soft in the mouth.

Yeah Naughtical. Out of this world. I think those are the real Kobe imports from Japan, so probably cost a lot more. Now where's my lotto ticket....

Pick up a filet mignon and if the don’t have that cut the second best thing to it is a beef tenderloin. Same cut but not the best piece of the cut.
Hey Wes ,
I got a beef with that comment. The tenderloin is the whole butchers cut of filet and medallion. The strip lion is under that and contains the N.Y. strip and other cuts I can't remember. The quality is a separate issue. u.s.d.a.,choice ,Angus are all examples of different qualities. I'd steak my reputation on it.

Just f.y.i bro

And then ... Tude enters the building.

Porterhouse - barely flipped - barely char lined with some barely present cross lines- and totally, most ultimately the rarest or rare beef on my plate. And oh even better - a place that serves dry-aged beef!

Oh, and a salad.

:D I'm easy when it comes to beef - RARE please! :)

From the link dave_in_space had above, I gotta say that Eye of Round and Tenderloin are by far my favorite. Nothing like a light smattering of peppercorn and pepper done medium rare to get the lips wet eh...damn I gotta have a steak

My favourite steak is a striploin, barbecued, medium to well, with lots of garlic. A baked potato with sour cream, pepper and chives. Veggies (mushrooms, peppers, and onions), wrapped in foil and barbecued.

If you want a great steak first your need to start with a great steak, so a choice cut or even better a prime cut will lead to a tastier meal. Asked a butcher what the difference was, he said its basically how well they are fed, the range grazed cattle are lean while the corn fed cattle have more fat. It the cost of the extra feed that raises the price of the choice and prime cuts.

Having said all that, fresh cracked pepper and sea salt, steak seared on both sides and finished in the over at 325 degrees to a medium rare works for me. Rib Eye makes me salivate the most but I will cut into any steak!!
