Your desire to compartmentalize information into simple little pieces keeps you from seeing the whole and will not lead you to wisdom.
A tad presumptuous of a statement since it assumes that people who have a more "metaphysical" bent in this context "get" the big picture.
However, it's been my experience that many scientists "get" the big picture on a level not even conceivable to those who rely strictly on what they "feel" is right and true. Science is a far more intimate relationship with the universe, if you will, since it actually involves interacting with it, studying it, learning its ways and whys.
You're going to be more efficient at doing that 10,000-piece puzzle if you have an idea that the picture is a tree-lined castle, no? | |

Im not sure about the Planet X thing but according to my sources there is a very expensive N.A.S.A I-R telescope which could be used to view the supposed Gasseous Planet! The coolest thing ive heard is that An object will come close enough to influence our Planet and all people will have large doses of D.M.T produced by their own brains which will Change the Conciousness of man forever,and for the better!!! i hate the doomsday endings.  | |

Posted: 9/28/2009 6:22:38 PM | the astromical facts of Sirius is that it has only one companion, Sirius B which is several many factors fainter than Sirius A. There is no Sirius C. However, new age literature frequently refers to the Dogon tribe of Mali having "knowledge" of a companion that can only be had either by having a telescope or being told.
The problem is, westerners have been visiting that tribe for years since it's presence was first deduced in 1834. However, if you actually know the constellation of Canis Major, you do notice that Sirius is "accompanied" across the sky by two stars on either side...Beta Sirius and Gamma Sirius. There's also Epsilon and Beta nearby. So "companion" stars might be interpreted fairly loosely.
As for NASA's IR telescope, it has nothing to do with monitoring "Planet X" as the conspiracy aficionados would have you believe. It is a long term project for observing the infrared sky that makes use of the unusually dry air at the antarctic. Also, a giant planet, as has been explained several times in these forums already, would be easily visible in even backyard telescopes at this point.
As for calendars, there's one on my wall that ends Dec. 31, 2009. Weird, eh? | |

I haven't heard 1 mention of Chiron, besides myself, & It's retrograde orbit. The way I remember the story, Chiron travels backward, to what we figure the planets travel, logically. To boot, it also travels, in an oval shape, where as, we are used to planets travelling in a round pattern.
So,
if we take a planet (X)(maybe Chiron), run it against the grain, & in a oval pattern . . . what do the computer simulated models say will happen, & when ! ?
I heard that Chiron is the Teacher, that it seems to come out of nowhere, that it travels awfully fast , in an odd pattern, like a rogue, or, one out of control.
In the end,
what's the point of all these ?'s
Would U do something different, if the world were actually ending ! ?
Like, what is the point of this conversation ! ? Some people want to prove, or disprove, there is an end, & they want to pick a date, or what ! ? | |

It does have an extended "oval" revolution around the sun , that's true but that just makes it more like a comet....which incidentally is what it has been quasi-classified as. In any case , it's not a planet to begin with. It's really just a large rock ... which beggars the question of why it's being brought up at all. | |

Excuse me, but someone asks if an expiry date on a milk jug is in any way shape or form related to some catastrophic end of the world scenario on a science and philosophy forum nonetheless and you expect people to respond HOW exactly??

Ummm....milk carton expiry date....end of the world...sounds completely reasonable to me. Oh wait. No, it's the very definition of "unreasonable." Roughly along the lines of "secret code in my Alphagetti."
Besides, it's my experience that those who actually want to learn, don't post. Those who are inclined to believe in every kind of pseudoscience nonsense will post it ad nauseum, no matter how much actual real information you offer.

Okay, twister, let me make this point. Back in 1996 or 97, someone photographed comet Hale Bopp and captured a star nearby. However, due to diffraction effects, the image of the star smeared out into a "saturn-like" object.
In California, some whack job convinced a bunch of people that this was the "mother ship come to take their souls" who knows where. And they all killed themselves.
Extreme example, yes, but has it ever occurred to you that a little more critical thinking by these people might have actually saved a few lives? Think it can't happen again? Well, look at it. We've got people believing that 2012 is THE END OF THE FREAKIN' WORLD. The thing is, people convinced that "the End" is about to come, tend to find a way to make it come true, if only for themselves. Yeah, I remember the Jim Jones coverage from when it happened. Made a bit of an impression to my then young mind.
So if we come across as a little harsh, well rather than defending their rights, maybe you might want to worry about where that line of reasoning can take one. | |

But I just dont see how ridicule can educate anyone

I might not have your formal education
but I have learned a few life lessons .
There are always going to be stupid posts on here
as the world is full of stupid people.
I dont think you are one of them.
and perhaps that it why it bothers me
when I see certain people on here do that .
I think Frogo is the most classy guy on here,
harsh words and ridicule never come out of that man.
yet time after time he responds politely to those with less knowledge
