Get real OP. You're probably the most intolerant person on these boards who hasn't managed to get himself banned and the title of this thread is just further evidence.
It was getting near to two decades ago that somebody said something the NDP just fished out of the toilet and now they want to parade it around as a reason to ...to....to what exactly ? Oh...well to get rid of that **stard and open up the space for their own **stard to take his place.
This is going to backfire on them.

Lets put this in better perspective. 17 years ago not only did I have hair, I had very different views. To go back 17 years and pass judgement is a a bit of a stretch.
no kidding,....honestly if we all looked back those same years we can collectively say what may have passed as acceptable then,..no longer does,...
and then there was the issues of a new disease which we knew far too little about other than it kills,....so homofobia was running rampant out of sheer stupidity and fear,....
we know much more and we behave accordingly so my suggestion is let's deal with things that are still a problem and not dredge up old ones,...
or don't we have anything more current and pressing to deal with that we have to dredge up old home movies?

| The conservative party, bigots. Posted: 4/4/2008 11:57:08 AM | Sir; This is not greed ~ and voids your arguement.
Yes it is greed and greed is good . My arguement stands.
Greed is the overriding lust for more ~ where you earned it or not ~ to covet ~ there is never enough.
No , socialism is where you want something without earning it. Socialism is a political movement built on covetting and resentment of those who have more. Socialism says: They have more than you , they must be "repressing" you , let us (the government) take it from them and give it to you. (legal plunder)
You missed the whole point.
I've never seen a lazy farmer either ~ for what it's worth.
That's immaterial , I was only using farmers as an analogy . But , nice of you to support farmers . Let me help out ....farmers feed cities.
Main Entry: greed Pronunciation: \'gred\ Function: noun Etymology: back-formation from greedy Date: 1609 : a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (as money) than is needed

Most Christians, even though they may agree with much of the liberal platform have no choice but to vote conservative to abide by the laws of their Christian church. To get proper government it would be great if the entire gay issue was prohibited from political discussion or legislation.

| The conservative party, bigots. Posted: 4/4/2008 4:17:32 PM | | The conservative party in my eyes is very backwards. I feel we need the conservatives in this country as well as the liberals, together they make a nice contrast, however, it's not always equal in the house of representatives, and we sometimes get the lame laws which are passed. A good one which comes to mind here in the states is that a gay couple can not married and only a male/female union is recognized as such, it's ridiculous and we have the conservatives in our country to thank for this. | |

Where did you buy the tolerance meter? I don't have to be "tolerant " of anything, if I choose not to be. I have free will, freedom of speech, and free thought. I know that some of you hate that. If you like gay sex, or feel it should be promoted, or think it's normal, thats your opinion. Keep it to yourself, because nobody cares about your view on gay sex.
NOBODY running for the presidency (Obama, Clinton, McCain), are in favor of gay marriage. They all stated marriage is between a man and a woman.

Tell me which party is in opposition to gay marriage? Show us some current party literature that states the party opposes 'gay marriage'.
Bill C-38, The Civil Marriage Act, was passed and received Royal Assent in 2005. A motion to re-open the debate was voted on in 2006 in parliament, those who were for the idea lost the vote, and moved on.
A news report from CTV on May 31, 2006, showed that a growing number of Conservatives were wary about re-opening the debate over same-sex marriage. One cabinet minister stated he just wanted the issue "to go away", while others including Chuck Strahl and Bill Casey were undecided, instead of directly opposed. Peter MacKay noted that not a single constituent had approached him on the issue, and Tory Cabinet Minister Conservative MP Loyola Hearn was against re-opening the debate. On June 2, 2006, Prime Minister Stephen Harper was asked by a reporter about the issue while he was in Montreal. He responded that the vote on whether or not to open up debate over same-sex marriage would take place sometime in the fall.
On December 6, 2006, the government brought in a motion asking if the issue of same-sex marriage should be re-opened to support the traditional definition of marriage. This motion was defeated the next day in a vote of 175 (nays) to 123 (yeas). Prime Minister Stephen Harper afterwards told reporters that he "[didn't] see reopening this question in the future."

YOu are absolutely correct, the liberals can be thanked for numerous stupid things such as burning our flag and calling it freedom of speech, etc..however, they are to be thanked for numerous things as well, such as women being able to get safe abortions as compared to back alley butcher sessions. I feel the conservatives can be thanked for stupid numerous things as well, one thing I can say about conservatives, is that they will step up to the plate and be realistic when it comes to war, as compared to liberals who think singing kumbaya will make a country listen to us. I do know we need both in the "house", but it's a total nightmare when one outweighs the other in the "house".
Atlanta:
My view on "happy" sex? lol Most politicians will voice their true views while in office, however, when it comes to getting votes, eventhough Obama, Billary and McCain vote against same sex unions, watch them sing and dance to that community for their votes, therefore, it's obvious they DO care about this community, even if only to get votes.
YOu state to keep that opinion to ourselves, referencing gay marriages, the same can be said of YOUR views, it definitely goes both ways here, but I must say, I"m very tolerant of people's views, whether they are liberal OR conservative, I do not belong to either, so I can safely say that YES,,,I feel the conservatives overall are living in a cave and need to realize these are more modern times and the liberals need to realize that eventually they need to take a stand/side. :)

| The conservative party, bigots. Posted: 4/4/2008 5:11:10 PM | My point is.. Right wingers, if you want to call them that, are not starting threads about gays to put them down. It is always left wingers starting a thread about gays, to attack Christians, gun control laws, others freedom of speech, others freedom of thought, etc.
What people do in the bedroom is my business, or yours? If gays tell people, and people don't like them for that, then they shouldn't tell people. If you practice some rare form of sex with your mate, do you go telling everyone, and then seek their approval. Do you call the names if they don't like the type of sex you practice?
|
| The conservative party, bigots. Posted: 4/4/2008 5:13:37 PM | I don't believe conservative equates to bigotry, that's a foolish assumption.
The gay marriage question really has no business in this thread ! I don't believe anyone dare think's that two people of the same sex can't have a deep affection for one another? Should such interaction be denied to them? I think not but various religions would disagree... Nevertheless, the idea of what constitutes a partnership which is beneficial to the human race is the real question. Nature evidently decided against it in the long term or everyone would be either male or female. Sure there are people who are born with unusal conditions but that's not the norm. So, procreation must be viewed as the root cause of union (marriage). A child takes much care and it really requires two parents dedicating themselves to the raising of that child.
In summary, If Nature saw fit that procreation was the proper course for human development and that was only possible between a man and a woman. Then without question a union (Marriage) is only justfied between two people of the opposite sex... All religious views aside.

I do however feel that both sides are needed for a good balance, it would be nice if middle ground could be sought, but that is easier said than done.

| The conservative party, bigots. Posted: 4/4/2008 5:24:37 PM | However, there are a relatively large number of children who are either orphans, in foster care, or their parents aren't well suited to the task, that could use a decent family. If two members of the same sex decide that they want to be together, and they can provide a reasonable home life, are you saying we shouldn't let them?
I agree, nature apparently intended for us to have one man and one woman together, otherwise reproduction, continuation of the species, etc... wouldn't work very well. But it seems like there are enough people doing that who shouldn't be or decide they really didn't want to - I don't know numbers, but there certainly are a lot of abandoned, adopted, and aborted children it seems like. If these couples can provide a good home for them, why shouldn't we let them?
I won't go into the whole issue with being raised by two fathers or two mothers, but it seems to me that maybe we have a new source of stable families that wouldn't be too bad. They're already strong enough to stand up to public criticism, who's to say they wouldn't make good parents too? Doubt it would be much worse than single parents, and most of the those that I know do a good/great job.
I know this isn't worded the best, but I was having a hard time figuring out the best way to say it.

| The conservative party, bigots. Posted: 4/4/2008 5:47:23 PM | Why can't people discuss something without resorting to conservative vs liberal insults and labelling of people?
I'm much more concerned with what is happening today than with what happend 17 years ago. For example, Flaherty trying to tell Ontario what to put in the budget, when his party left us with a deficit and the liberals he hates so much balanced the books. Federally, it was the liberals who balanced the books and put us in a surplus position.
As for comments against homosexuals - I say let free speech reign and that way we can see what kind of a person is speaking.

If two members of the same sex decide that they want to be together, and they can provide a reasonable home life, are you saying we shouldn't let them? Yes !
But don't think that answer is final, it's merely the short answer to a far more complicated question... I'd be the first to agree that there are plenty of same sex couples that could provide all the physical needs a child would require. There is little question that they could do a far better job in that area than some traditional unions. However, there is something lacking even in the best situations. Just because a same sex couple could provide the best life has to offer shouldn't be used as a gauge to justify adoption. If we are to use that idealogy it would be the same to say all children of low income families should be removed from their parents care and placed with families who can provide for better living conditions. Evidently there is something more important here than just providing a good home...
I don't know numbers, but there certainly are a lot of abandoned, adopted Yes, there is and that is a failure of industrial modern society. The larger population of the world still recognizes the value of grandparents and extended family.
I know this isn't worded the best, but I was having a hard time figuring out the best way to say it. You did very well and I believe your points are honorable.

I'm a conservative in many ways and I certainly do not consider myslef part of the religious right. I think most conservatives are similar. But , I'm just curious. In all of politics , what would be an example of this awesome power wielded by the religious right ? I mean they certainly have some numbers...you'd think we might see a manifestation of this political clout. As far as I have seen , they could not have much less influence in governments. They are powerless as compared to the PC socialist left wing. I think the left just likes a good PC constructed reality and a boogie man.
Many non-Christians are also against gay marriage. Very true . It's very similar to the fact that most recent immigrants feel immigration levels are much too high. But , that is an inconvenient fact to the lefty PC totalitarians and it must be ignored.
