| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 3:15:34 PM | I doubt that keeping the nicotine in the system is all that helpful, certainly a slow reduction of nicotine works great (IME) Four Years ago I never intended to quit smoking. One Day just bought a Pack of Nicorettes, never felt like smoking for the rest of that Day. Next Day the same, and so on. After 6 Months I started back up again for recreational Reasons and just kept smoking without giving any further Thought to it.
But this Time it was quits for sure, no going back, we ain't getting any younger, the Body can't deal with the physical Polution as well as it used to. The physical Relief after quitting far outweighs the Strains of Withdrawal Symptoms.
Now its just a Matter of preventing weight build-up, as it can seriously impede my work. Every additional pound on me I can feel weighing me down and usurps my physical Energy too much.
Eating healthy Food, Vitamins, No Booze, Exercise, etc. also makes all the Difference in the World, patches up the holes in the Road quite well.
There is much more to quitting Smoking than what meets the Eye. Its not so much to quit, but to keep the weight off, since I have never been overweight in my Life.
I wouldn't look at Quitting as something to be dreaded and feared counting down the Days of Reckoning, but something to look forward to to get started on.
the hypnotist that told me to just stop sticking them in my mouth was right ..will power , I put that to the Test by not paying his Bill he "suggested" I deal with immediately, thus adequate Proof his Techniques didn't work ... ... j/k

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 3:44:09 PM | sponge Have you read Allan Carr's Easy way to quit smoking? If not you really should pick up this book, its an easy read , I read the book and smoked my last cigarette during the final chapter and quit cold turkey. If you were to time the reading of this book with your medication, this might just do the trick for you. I was a die hard smoker, I had tried quitting many times, I tried the patch, zyban, hypnotherapy, lazer therapy. the book worked for me. | |

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 7:10:01 PM | | good luck Sponge!!! I quit 25 years ago with the "gum" and have not craved one since. Actually I am very happy being a non smoker! Set your mind to it and you will succeed. My mom, on the other hand, quit the same time as I did and she craved smoking for years and years after. She said she missed it. Ironically she passed away last month from COPD, caused by smoking. | |

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 7:49:35 PM | ^^^^sorry to hear about your mom....and thanks for the support... thats not good news at all, especially if she quit 25 years ago ~~~~ ~~~~~~`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks everyone for their support, hope i can do it ((if not atleast I tried....again)) and if I can quit smoking than hopefully this thread will give others hope where you think there is none, because if i can quit anyone can( I pretty much lost hope of quitting till I heard of this new non-smoking aid) I just dont have the will power to do it without help...yes im weak~but Im not a quitter!

I have this book, and when you're ready to quit, this book will be all you will need. I've read it a couple of times, but it just wasn't my time, I wasn't ready. I've also tried every other method under the sun and they all worked to some degree, but mentally I just wasn't ready. When I'm ready to make the attempt, I will pick up that book again. I just makes so much sense. I'm a little weary of the Champix pill as I've heard about all the side affects and don't know if I can handle them, although I hear it's working for many people.
Either way, good luck to you and keep us updated on your progress.
Cheers! NDG

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/6/2008 2:45:39 PM | Well being an ex smoker (11 years non smoking now) I can tell you you're on the right path. For me it actually allowed me extra cash for my hobbies and the health benifits I really did notice. I didn't use any medication or pills to stop. I did it on my own because it was the week my first born son came home. I did it for him and for me. We all have good reasons to quit so just think of those any time you think "Oh well just one won't hurt". Good luck | |

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/6/2008 6:27:08 PM | I am going into my third week on Champix and it is helping and I have cut back to half a pack/day but still get the cravings alot. The second week I started to get some nausea right after having a smoke and did get sick, I have at different times felt like there was an ashtray under my nose and the smell was horrible which deterred me from wanting a smoke. The cost for me is $52 for a 2wk supply. My doctor told me not to take any other type of smoking aide with it as the others feed you nicotine and this medication is suppose to block the nicotine cravings. A friend of mine quit from being on it but she did get nightmares and severe depression from it, the doctor figured it was due to other medications she was also taking so she had to go off the champix but she is still not smoking.
Hope my info is helpful | |

I wish you the best of success in your bid to kick the habit. When I did smoke I tried cutting back and that invariably failed and I had to quit cold turkey. I did find that I needed to truly want to quit before I could do it. Having a bad cold and losing my voice for three days gave me the motivation I needed.
You aspire to buy a boat so perhaps if you were to get a photo of the boat you set your sights on and resize it to fit on the package of cigarettes. Print several copies and tape one to each package of smokes. Every time you want a cigarette you'll be reminded of the boat of your dreams and that might be enough motivation to at least cut back and hopefully eventually quit (with or without other aids).
Good luck.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/6/2008 7:42:58 PM | the first time I quit for 6 y ears using a hypnotist but then due to stressors I started up again and was a closet smoker for 5 years
the last time and its been about 5 years now - I chose a date far off - IE in November I decided I would quit Feb 21 so that gave me time to still smoke and not panic about it The date had to be an important date in order for me to commit to it so I chose the same date my father quit smoking - the date he died - Feb 21 - I felt that was a very extreme day and it would help me to do it. at first I used the patch only when I went to the pubs so I would not be tempted (but now there is no smoking so no temptations) I only did that about 5 times ..it was just time for me for many reasons - many personal reasons - it is true - when it is time for you , the right time , you just will, period. I often crave still but it passes very quickly...good luck everyone trying , it will happen when it is suppose to and to those non smokers that pick on the smokers - back off - they dont really want to be doing it..it is a very hard addiction to stop... I know people that have been able to quit drinking quit drugs but they still have trouble quitting nicotine .....its very hard

I know people that have been able to quit drinking quit drugs but they still have trouble quitting nicotine ... that may be very true (perhaps to people who are not really alcoholics) I can do without missing a drink for a very long time , though its great to have a brew out camping or fishing or a glass of wine with dinner I've been 'quitting' (lol) smoking for a few years, but just love that first one with a coffee in the morning, or when going out having a brew, seems I'm not that much committed, going without for a few days no problem and then just have a few when the occasion feels like it (may just be habit, craving)...makes me wonder why I start again... guess I need a better excuse not to???? the costs aren't it...any thoughts?

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/6/2008 10:06:42 PM | I was under the impression that everyone was a nonsmoker on these dating sites. I see I am mistaken.
I am wondering if anyone has actually quit smoking since this thread began. It is okay with me whatever you do. I am just wondering. I think there used to be a thread about wondering. I guess I should dig it up if it still around.
Whatever you decide to do everyone all the best.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/7/2008 2:00:02 PM | Just spoke with a friend who quit 35 days ago. Did the laser with 1 booster. It gave her a very oral fixation. Asked her if she's still not smoking. Says its tough, but she's hanging in there. Asked about the oral thing, she said well, what you really want is a c*** and a smoke but not in that order. Very popular girl at the moment. Think I might give the laser thing a try. (It'll be a wash, if the c*** thing comes into play.) | |

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/7/2008 2:48:36 PM | Try this: it worked for me when I quit 13 yrs. ago. Apples, sliced and easy to keep anywhere. Instead of a smoke, eat a slice of apple. You get a natural sugar hit, taste good, you'll never gain weight and they're hard to light. Healthy and economical. MacIntoshes were my choice. | |

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/7/2008 4:13:27 PM | I quit this morning. Or last night – I dunno, but, I haven’t smoked since last night. I don’t smoke cigarettes, I smoked cigars. Smoking a cigarette for me was sort of like smoking air.
I’m actually starting to feel a little bit jittery right now.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/7/2008 5:55:54 PM | Yep, I have a buddy that did the laser and 1 booster. Very successful for him; it's been probably close to a year now.....and he said he simply had no craving. He did the hypnosis prior to that, it did not work for him. His Mum was a chronic smoker and the laser worked for her as well. Another woman I worked with, laser as well, didn't last her a week. I imagine acupuncture would also work, same principle. Acupuncture might be cheaper, but I can't personally attest to the efficacy of one over the other. I'm a cold turkey gal - 19 years clean.
I wish you luck. I'm learning as I get older that good health is a gift.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/7/2008 8:49:54 PM | Well, I read the book by Allen Carr last night and today and I finished the book. It is only 100 pages long...did it make me quit ....."NO" it didnt....but it did give me a little insight into why I smoke and how to "not feed the monster" (((( which I already knew, but good to reinforce it in my mind again))))). I do suggest it however to reinforce your own "inner power" .
2 days on the champix, first day felt kinda weird, something not quite right...hope its not the weight loss pills and champix reacting together NO side effects yet, however I am now forced to eat breakfast ((something I havent done in 20 years)))) but you have to eat with it or atleast my doc said to ensure no nausea...I have not had any nausea from taking it so far....I think i slowed down on the cigarettes today already though, without even noticing. Maybe just wishful thinking I think the cigs are already tasting worse than the did before i started the champix
tomorrow I double the dose so will have a better idea what to expect...hope i dont go all squirly first day was weird...
After reading Allen Carr's book I wonder if he would of recommended Champix, He is definately against nicotine replacement while quitting but this isnt a nicotine replacement....Any thoughts????
Dolores you wished me good luck ....thanks

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/7/2008 9:00:35 PM | well had my last smoke this evening ......... i hope it is my last over the past week cut my cig intake by half and each day after less and less still taking champix and reading the book and keeping my eye on the thread to see how the people are doing in their quest to kick the habit good luck all | |

For a sec my last cig kinda made me feel a little nauseous.... Is that how others felt too in the first few days of taking this when they smoked ????
