|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/12/2008 7:41:38 PM | omg sponge !!! good for you a non smoking vehicle to buzz around in i m jealous but still not smoking | |
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/12/2008 10:20:37 PM | I’ve never allowed smoking in my vehicle and smoking is only permitted ‘downstairs’ at home and having familiar, comfortable pre-established ‘no smoking’ zones is certainly helping.
Someone mentioned today that smokes no longer being on display in the stores must be helping and, ya know, I have to admit that I think it has made things a little easier. It’s been 5 or 6 days now, cold turkey and not even one teeniest, tiniest hint of a slip, but, man, I spend a lot of time thinking about it – it just sort of sneaks up on me. I wake up and one of the first thoughts in my head is, ‘oh yeah, I quit smoking.’
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/12/2008 10:59:40 PM | way to go aka....glad its working for you....hope it works for me too....it has to now i dont have a choice now....now i have to quit or walk

|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/12/2008 11:26:19 PM | Congrats to all those who have quit smoking. Sponge ... sweet ride gurl! Money from smokes going to pay for a new vehicle instead. That's awesome! | |
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/13/2008 12:52:16 PM | Wow...... a new truck is pretty cool.....
My appointment to visit my doctor is on thursday.... So I am hoping by next Saturday to start the Champix too.
Sponge..... Have you gone a whole day without smoking yet?
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/13/2008 2:33:08 PM | Ahhh pshawwwwwwwww.. it isn't the nicotine that is addicitive....
it is the CO, Carbon Monoxide.
It reduces the delivery of oxygen to the brain, thereby slowing or stopping the thinking process.
'Stress' is just another term for "not wanting to deal with my problems".
The bad things that happen to us, is the consequences of making poor decisions.
And POF forums are full of single people, many that either smoke, or their partners smoke.
My rant for today.
(I suck on tailpipes of idling cars, it is much cheaper.)
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/13/2008 3:18:10 PM | Watching my parents when i was teenage try so hard and fail to quit smoking left a strong impression on me to not take up this activity.
All I can say is Im Rooting for you.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/13/2008 3:45:39 PM | More sauce for the mix. This is true and my own personal physician for 18 years Proved something to me that make me sick. ( no pun)
"If a person has an appointment with a Medical Doctor in B.C. Canada and; The Only Reason is to seek a way to quit smoking,.....the Doctor CANNOT Get Paid For That Office Visit !! It's Always Been That Way !"
Therefore it will be written up as a routine visit for a blood pressure check, or some small item that the doctor will do while you are there talking about quitting smoking.
Oh ya, The Gov't pays the doctors., and 99% of the hospital stuff, and what all. We pay a monthly fee and such to the gov't. for medical care. It is based on income.
Why are not all stop smoking aids FREE, or at a low price, and They can have a decent reward given for different levels, or time,...... Remember that for Many People the nicotine addiction IS Stronger than Heroin !!
Let's do this RIGHT and get it finished with. Stop the Gov't from winning both ways. Smokers need as much support as possible. Somehow our society can figure ways to get a winning deal for all smokers to quit, then it would be nice to make it illegal, and destroy all of it.
Now that I think of it, why is the frikkin' gov't allowed to sell an item that is meant for only one use, and has one outcome,...... AND is a Known Deadly Substance / Poison --> When Used As Directed ! Don't compare to alcohol, because it is one molecule from being deadly. Tobacco products are a poison already.
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/13/2008 4:26:53 PM | Don't compare to alcohol, because it is one molecule from being deadly.
So is Alcohol !
Toxins like arsenic, are used to flavor the beverages.
You don't have to take my word for it, we have the Net.

Lead derivatives provide the best and truest paint colors.
Poisons provide the 'different' physical reactions when consuming alcohol, as well as providing the reactive flavors. Taste is a reaction to chemical presence.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/13/2008 6:35:05 PM | For those smokers who simply can't kick the habit and resign themselves to a life of smoking (much to the disappointment of your fellow fish in this pond) take some comfort from the example of Buster Martin. The 101 year old man in Britain who by running 10 km just completed the first marathon he ever entered.
He drinks 8 pints of beer and smokes 14 cigarettes a day.

Tyee, I saw that on the news as well! Hard to believe s man 101 years old can run a marathon, especially with the consumption of 8 pints of beer a day and 14 smokes.
What a guy! | |

Working plumber Buster Martin ran Sunday's Roding Valley half marathon in Essex in five hours 13 minutes, and is now focusing on London's 26-mile event.
On finishing the run, the first words of the ex-member of rock band The Zimmers were: "Where's my beer?"
For the record, I'm not in anyway discouraging anyone from quitting smoking, as should be obvious from other posts I've made. I do however recognize some folks may never succeed in quitting and perhaps the above story may make them feel a tad better about it.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/13/2008 9:44:39 PM | | Tyeee - If that 101 year old didn't smoke, he might have done the run in less time. Let's say 5 hours and 12 minutes. Actually, it is very impressive, but I think he won the gene pool lottery and is the exception rather than the rule. Remember - George Burns smoking away on those cigars. It seems like he lived forever. | |

THESE ARE TWO 'EXCEPTIONS' THAT DO NOT MAKE THE RULE.
For either one; we are talking they are one in how many ? Millions ?

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/14/2008 4:35:24 AM | Quitting smoking is impossible just like dieting. The reason is because you are obbessed with thinking about what you are trying to quit. Its a mind F--- that is designed to fail. My suggestion is that you stop quitting. Instead do something that smoking makes inconvenient, like hiking or biking or something that uses your wind. Be persistent, when you start coughing and wheezing you will lay down the smoke, when you get into the activity you will not have to worry about gaining weight. Keep yourself busy and challenged. The best way to stop dying is to start living. You go girl!
Also alnalyze your habit, change what other support habits support your smoking. IE that cup of coffee on the patio in the am with your smoke, try a walk, juice and carrot sticks instead. Take some time off from the people you smoke with (just temporarily until you get a handle on it). Smoke outside - its uncomfortable.
Behind every addiction is a problem that smoking camaflouges. Maybe you are bored? Get out there? Maybe you are lonely? Join a club. Good luck!

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/14/2008 6:04:58 AM | YAY!! Sponge! Good for you!!
I am sooo proud of Anyone who sets out to become a Non-smoker! It is "hard" .. but it is even More "Important" than it is hard. If it was easy to butt out, I imagine there would be a whole lot less people 'trying'!
Permission!! # 1 thing I did for Me when I became a non-smoker, was give myself permission to go a little nutso (ok . more than normal! lol) .. and to do whatever it took to succeed - including gaining a few pounds! and SO WHAT!? .. we are soooo hung up on weight versus health - it's sickening! lol .. So, I lost my mind for a bit .. whatever! I am FREE!! FREE! FREE!! no cravings, no urges - Smoke Free! The weight I gained in the first few months pretty much all came off after year 1. It's hard not to gain weight when you can suddenly Taste food! OMG I have Never eaten fish'n chips that tasted THAT good! mmmmmmm .. holicrap !! And who knew brocolli has a flavour?! OK .. you knew that, but before I quit - I had NO idea!
I smoked for over 30 years - and I smoked a LOT. For the last few years of my inhaling poison (cyenide, formaldihyde +++ herbicides, pesticides, fungicides +++ and maybe a little tobacco! lol) I smoked over 60 a day. Rolled my own, cuz the tailer mades weren't strong enough. My fingers were baby-crap yellow (ICK!) .. I reeeeked! Didn't know how bad I stunk til I didnt! ick ick ick!
When I put on my first patch, I still had mega withdrawals! Probly coulda worn 2 or 3 patches! lol (Don't do that!). I ate, I walked, I cried, Laughed, cried again! Scrubbed my kitchen floor and don't remember doing it.. sigh... then on day 3 I sat on the floor in my living room bawling! Didn't want a smoke, but holicrap the withdrawals! lol I sat there in that same spot for about half an hour with my vacuum running. I bet that spot will be cleaner than the rest for ever! lol .. Then I decided to clean my walls ... OMG OMG OMG! I had panelling when I lived in that apartment. I had to change the cleaning water with Each panel! The water was the colour of dirty mustard (baby crap yellow!) DISGUSTING! I also lost a friend to Emphysema, the few months before I put out my last butt. The cause of Emphysema IS cigarette smoke. Some people, like that 101 year old 'might' get away with ingesting poison. MOST people don't. If you've never "Seen" the face of Emphysema, there is NO greater incentive. It is the most painful, horrid way to go I have ever witnessed. Nasty.
So .. here I am 5++ years later - Smoke Free. My lungs Love me for it! I have air. Breathing is a good thing! lol .. My skin is no longer stained, I don't Reek! I am back down to a weight I am quite happy with too! oh oh oh .. AND - in the first 6 months of not smoking, I saved almost $5,000.00!!! yup - I grew boobs! lmfao - I was 45, bought my FIRST bra!!! lmao. So - quit smoking = a free boob job!
I feel better about me than ever. Becoming a non-smoker IS the best choice I've ever made. Oh - the best "tool" I had was changing my "self-talk". Instead of 'thinking' this is hard, I changed it to "This is the best thing I have ever done for me". I also kept a daily journal (should sell that on EBay! lol) and I called the 800# for support, to vent almost every day. They were wonderful!
If ANYONE wants to vent or wants support - I would be toooo happy! PM me ..
Meantime - Sponge: Good For You! And anyone who's managed to Free themselves - Good on ya!! And thanks!! The less you smoke - the less "we" smoke!
Thank You!!! A.S.is

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/14/2008 6:55:32 AM | A.S., that post was just too funny! It reminds me of myself when I quit smoking 8 years ago. (I smoked for 23 years) I was a crazy woman! My ex even left me for 3 days and stayed with his aunt. My kids, on the other hand, had no such advantage. hee hee. But they survived....barely. *wink*
But here I am and I will attest to the fact that quitting is no easy task. I just want to say Kudos to you SpongeCat for everything you've done so far to ensure success at quitting!! And congrats on the new Durango!!
RE: Weight gain. Whenever you think about a cigarette, run out of the house and around the block. That'll quash your craving PLUS you'd be working off those few extra calories you consumed earlier. *smile*
Another tip (worked for me) AFFIRMATIONS. An affirmation is simply a positive message you give to yourself and with constant repetition, the affirmations will penetrate your subconscious (the non-smoking thoughts will replace the smoking ones). As with any behaviour or habit, you have to retrain yourself and then get some practice at living without the habit. There are many websites that offer advice on affirmations and how to use them.
To dragonlady45 and AK, two thumbs waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up and congrats on your decision to quit as well.
To anyone else reading this thread and thinking about quitting.... may those thoughts become reality and you break free as well.

ok so this is whaz up .....
I took my jimmy in to trade in on a new vehicle ( my non smoking vehicle) , the jimmy when sold to me from the dealership in 2003 cost 22,000.00 and they declared no damage over 2000.00 BUT when I traded in the jimmy at a different dealership to buy the Durango I found out there was damage to the jimmy infact ALOT of damage that they never declared OVER 6000.00 DAMAGE !!!!{ this came up on the icbc report} ..... SO they said because of the damage my jimmy was worth nothing to them and they had offered me 10,000.00 for it then when they pulled the stats on the jimmy and realized the damage they offered my 3,600.00 instead....Now the dealership told me that it is illegal for the other dealership not to declare the damage to me when I bought the jimmy and that they very well may owe me the full cost of the jimmy back...
ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS TYPE OF SCENERIO ????????
This makes my day, I am happy to be a non smoker My payment on the new truck will be nothing as they will have to give me a sh!t load of cash back and im sure my lawyer will agree
(((((hope i see my little yacht in the real near future.....lol!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA))))))
I cant believe the luck i have been having...the dealership that I bought the durango from thought they sold me the jimmy and they gave me $$$$$$$$ off the durango( cause i completely lost it)....but after we signed the papers and everything was finalized we realized it was the other dealership) hahahahahahahaha.... got to love voodoo !

Hmmm, might be a good time to start a comparison study of women, one at a time of course. I have a tape measure and of course eyes and willing hands (to search for fakery)
