| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/16/2008 10:42:18 PM | good luck sponge... you deserve alot of praise. Quitting smoking is very difficult, but not impossible. Seems like you have things under controll and once again I wish you luck. Hope this is the time.. the final time and you will soon become a non smoker.
Cheers

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/17/2008 10:32:14 AM | Yes the smoking thing, if you look around right now you smokers can you see anything related to it? move the ash trays and cigs, lighters away from sight, make yourself work for it a bit by having to get up.
The morning smokie and before bed stop that first.
As a side note the world is full of horrid smells when i quit for 9 months i gagged on some of them the worst being people ie standing in line at Tim Hortons i mean yuk.
Cheers

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/18/2008 8:00:36 AM | Well, the champix is working great as far as not smoking ...its been 4 days without a smoke and sleep ...now if i could just get rid of these everlasting vivid, annoying dreams every time I close my eyes....and get rid of this HUGE HEADACHE every day all day that just does not go away without tylenol 3 and even then still lingers....wah wah and i have tummy aches all the time too....so i went from a smoker to a sleepless pill popper so far....great ...well least im not smoking....

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/18/2008 8:30:16 AM | ^^^ sponge That explains why suddenly I'm having wild dreams too... and waking up so exhausted. Damm voodoo.
Seriously, perhaps those side effects might be withdrawal symptoms from the nicotine, tar and other toxins in the cigarette smoke, and one would expect that to diminish as your body adjusts. Hang in there sponge!

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/18/2008 8:54:38 AM | | well almost 2 weeks for me yahoooo and still having the odd dream (not on champix) and have the tummy ache (kinda like hunger pain) but apparently its all withdrawals dont realize just how smoking effected everypart of your body ... hang in there sponge and everyone else who is quitting or thinking on it in the long run will be better health wise and money $$$$$ wise ....... | |
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/18/2008 1:43:29 PM | yay dragon lady and tornado nice to see you back on board....
3 weeks they say for withdrawls..
i will be the meanest son of a beech in the land if i dont get sleep for that long
maybe i will just add another pill to sleep at night until this is over and one for headaches and one for tummy aches and one for anxiety ( actually on the champix there is no anxiety..well almost none) I just hope with all these side effects the champix isnt messing with my brain or eternal organs or something....all these side effects kind of scare me ....hope its just withdrawl...if i go one more week like this i will see the doc, however I will stick it out for now...and if i can make it one more week then hopefully I will have beaten the nicotine monster down..
good news is.... im not constipated or vomiting and im not smoking
my theroy is if i dont buy a pack of cigs i cant smoke them and so far its working

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/19/2008 12:19:54 PM | | Hey Sponge, I was thinking the same thing......lol. Don't worry too much about "the list".......actually alot of it sounds more like an allergic reaction, rather than a side effect. FYI I did bring up with my doc the side effects I was having, he asked me how much I was smoking and encouraged me to stay with it. He felt the pros outweighed the cons (of course, he's not the one going through it.....Day 3 here......lol). | |

I'm wondering how your renter will react when you return those two borrowed cigarettes though... a pair of crushed butts and handful of ashes.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/19/2008 8:07:18 PM | I think it’s been two weeks now. I think. No cheating yet, but, sometimes the urge really hits me. Still. Lucky for me, I don’t know any other cigar smokers or I probably would have caved in by now. I am starting to notice that however strong the urge might be at times, it doesn’t last for long. Hopefully, it won’t be long before I don’t think about it all.
Hang in there sponge. Remember, when you fall off the wagon, it’s okay to just jump right back on.
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/19/2008 8:14:56 PM | April 20 will be 5 months for me. I just had a dream last nite about smoking...lol..I sure was enjoying it...lol. There are some people who can have a smoke here or there, but I know enough about myself to know that one will never ever be enough, so what keeps me from taking that smoke is...I have made it 5 months and I can't can't can't CAN'T mess that up...quitting again is NOT an option. If you knew me before I quit, I was a die hard smoker
I will say though....I have gained weight...but hey I can always lose that Its great having your kids proud of you!!!!
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/19/2008 8:43:17 PM | way to go AKA ..
lady red ...what method if any did you use to quit ?
well yes I cheated but they did nothing for me but make me mad at myself so yes as I just barely fell off the wagon I prefer to think of it as I only stuck my toe on the ground... didnt really get off, cause the wagon was too hard to get on the first time...
anyway, I am not a quitter ((((cause i dont want to walk to the boat launch))))
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/19/2008 9:13:58 PM | Just to lend some more support... Champix user here and I've quit for over a month now.
Not sure when I quit exactly. I ran out of cigarettes sometime in week 1 or 2 and decided not to pick anymore up. Have had 2 cravings in that time and the rest of the time, I haven't even thought about it.
I've quit 3 times of significance before... once for 7 months (Zyban), once for 3 months (Nicorette gum) and recently for 8 months (Nicoderm patches). What I learned from all of those "attempts" that has better prepared me for this time are:
I always gain 20 pounds My body starts to lose the weight after 8 months I cannot even have one Cigars or cigarellos are not a good part time substitute I cannot be around people who smoke (that includes those I date) I am an addict for life that doesn't want to smoke
Good luck to all those on the road.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/19/2008 9:35:39 PM | | I started the patch ywo months ago and have fallen off twice already. I will go back on it again soon and hopefully go the whole route and then stay off. | |
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/19/2008 10:55:15 PM | Ty Cat, Well the way I quit wasn't really by choose. I had a very bad chest infection and had to make a choice either breath or smoke. I made a face at the doctor when he said that...lol...I had been smoking for over 20 yrs...anywho...i had just bought a carton, so i would light a cig take a puff but just hold in my mouth...do not inhale...then by the 3rd day I would just lite the cig and hold it...by the 5 day I was on my way, and by that time it was a choice not to smoke. I still have a pack sitting here at my desk, so if I really want one they are there. Both my parents smoke, all my friends and my ex.... I still let people smoke in the house for now...when kids aren't home, I will not become an anal ex smoker, but I do sure notice the smell of it now on others, but I still support smokers right. Some days I feel like a tratior for switching sides...LOL Anyway, I found if I phrased it as a choose of smoking or not smoking is an easier place to come from then I can't have...just my two cents worth..hope it helps good luck and always get back on the wagon
