hey, its good to see the communists are alive and well, and rooting for our demise. you like it so much in red china? then go move there. lets see how much freedom you have to speak there. lets see what kind of job you can get. lets see how many kids they let you have, and what property they will let you own. lets see what you can drive, and what you eat. do you like monkey? good, because they eat plenty of that over there.

@jmarq
I have never made an assumption that everyone wants to move here. I don't really understand why anyone wants to move here. kind of got me wondering how crappy some of these other areas even are.

is that one of one of your trick quests ? The assumption was to our patriotic mates who assumed...................not you .
Put it like this................all immigrants who came to America had a hard time somewhere or other .When I say ALL......................I mean all ,as in all Americans minus the N.American...........he had a hard time when you lot came in.............messing up the joint.....coming in.........taking it over and imposing an alien culture without so much as a by your leave. And ungrateful or what ? Taking the jobs and the women ( don't blame you there tho )

Turning around and telling them how to conduct their affairs .As if thats not enough................outscourcing to Africa for slave labour........again without asking.............................. And the best of it is...............no passports...............no entering this great America legally and now you wanna keep Mexicans out....??

I am pretty convinced that the biggest reason for people wanting to come here nowadays is so they won't have to wake up in the middle of the night to watch american idol. cause it's such an incredible show.

Get the history of the USA right.

The American Indians came here from the land bridge. They formed tribes and fought each other. They took land and women from each other.

The Europeans came over and did the same thing the tribes were doing... just with better weapons, etc.

My great grandfather was full blood American Indian...orphaned on the Trail of Tears... the real stories were past down. He held no hatred of the 'white man'... just frustration that the American Indians were not better prepared. But, don't kid yourself. The American Indians were just as savage-like in their attacks as the White dudes.

As for outsourcing to Africa for slaves. Those roots were based in European and Middle East traditions. Of course that aspect was going to come to America... due to ancestory. AND.. the Africans sold their own people. The slaves were not taken. They were bartered by their own Country's higher powers. This is not a new concept. Europe and the Middle East have done it since time itself... slaves from other Nations... slaves from within their own Countries.

Other Nations across the Globe need to take a good LONG look at their own history before casting stones our way.

EDIT:

After posting and returning to the thread, I saw the 'American Idol' reference. lol. Thanks for interjecting some humor!

[ Get the history of the USA right. ]

eeerrr I do know the history actually and I relayed the gist .The whys and wherefors etc etc............it was the way I told it .........along the lines of what rightwing Americans feeling under siege tend to say....play on words .......British SOH.............no...........? Not funny ?.... seems it went well..........like a lead balloon ...

I am fascinated by the amount of people saying my grandfather/mother was a Native American or saying they are Native and they are blond or redhaired .I wonder at the mixture of Native in the average white American and at what point that person would think.......................I want to be known as Native American (even though they may be as blond as me ) I am in awe of it...............I would say the same actually .

I would like to question Americans on that score.........do they have a Native American in their family tree and how do they feel about it ? In fact I would like to start a topic about it but leery in case it goes away from what I am asking in the most innocent way and becomes a Pc issue of ................we are one race.....the human race.........or we are all mixed blah blah....................that kinda thing prevents you from finding out interesting things about people . Justin Timberlake 's family tree starts way back with a British soldier and an Indian princess ..............

Just mark me down as a naturally inquisitive person................my parents think its great that I have a job which pays me to ask questions..........................we have ways of making you TALK ! ( old joke eerr)

I don't feel that. the problem is you lump some in with others. you know, there are 300,000,000 million of us here. why do some people in detroit commit crime? cause you have some good, and some bad.

As far as slavery goes it was only 'officially' outlawed in Saudi Arabia at the end of WW1. Wow such a short time ago.
I don't know for certain but as I've read in Islam, only non-islamic people could be enslaved. Millions of Christians died in slavery during the Ottoman empire and of course you remember the galley slaves of ancient Greece and Rome and who could forget the Jewish slaves built the pyramids.

Most people on earth are not actually indigenous to the country they live in. If you want to split hairs, all our ancestors came from some other area or region than where they settled. Take the U.S., before the Europeans arrived the indians were here but they came here from another place and settled this region, unless they grew out of the ground or magiaclly appeared, since the indians did not originate from here technically they are not indigenous to this area. England, before the people who live there now some other group of people were there first, where did they come from, unless they sprouted up from the ground or magically appeared they are not indigenous to that area. This can be said of most countries, regions or areas.

Being a native is different thing entirely, being native to a country, state, region or area simply means being born there or having originated there. I am native american, I was born in the U.S. on the other hand my ancestors generations ago may not heve been and if not they are were not native to this country.

Giving ourselves label only serves to divide us as people, instead of looking at each other as a fellow person, we look at each other as Native American, European, Asian, etc. etc. and therfore the competition.

Peace and love

That's very nice and I really wish it were that way but unfortunately the world you're speaking of only exists in Star Trek. Until we can advance to that one world, one gov't, one people it will always be as it is. But I have noticed not for white Europeans though! For instance a white European can migrate to America and have children that are American, that's all just plain American. But if the migrant were African then the off spring would be African American, or Chinese would be American Chinese etc. etc. So how is it that white Europeans can go anywhere in the world and have their off spring be of that country? Why can't an African migrate to London and be an Englishman or a Chinaman migrate Ireland and be Irish?

The American Indians have been there for over 13,000 years its estimated.
I think that makes them the natives lol.

Same with the Australian aborigines, around 50,000 its estimated.
More then makes them the natives and original inhabitants

wow! i'm impressed.

Apparently we all originated in South Africa some 100-150,000 years ago and I quite agree with your sentiment we are all of one race, living on one planet. The things that unite us out-weigh the things that divide us.

But, unfortunately we are very divided, I'd love to live in star trek world.

Why be proud to be American then if "labels" are offensive ?
Thats to you Lethenik.lol American is a label .

Knowing a history is not offensive or divisive to any person .I don't want to get to the point of being called by a number because next thing is my WElSH name might offend someone..I agree with your overall sentiment but not the thought process behind it .

The Native American is the ONLY native to America and thats because he was there FIRST of all the people there NOW.
If someone else was there before...............tough because we don't see him...lol
That does not take it away from anybody else coming later but I knew this kinda nit picking would come out from asking a simple honest question about the Native American .

The Australian and New Zealanders have been there for thousands of years and bloody hell.....................if that counts for nothing................who are we ?
I am a people person......very inquisitive...I see people and I want to know more .I see their history........I want to see their culture .Some people are dull...others are not .
When I go abroad.....I want to see the culture of that place not lie on the beach and the culture is usually with people .So if I didn't respect people.............I would be seeing a blank canvas .With Native I saw an outstanding heritage that if you only knew it..............was the most enthralling part of America for me . I have been to many parts of the world and this first American culture is always joint tops with the best-for me .So when you say.......accept people......I do that .I see individuals and then the sum total of what shaped them and that means thier culture/history/ID .

PS---lol....I got Britain covered all by myself Andy...............Da is Welsh and Mum is English..........

I'd love to live in star trek world

I don't know, it seems much the same, really. Well, except for the cool toys. Like phasers. I wish I had a phaser.
There is an interesting parallel, though. In the Trek-verse, we have a federation of varied aliens, and a couple of independent (and supposedly evil) empires. Earth-based humans dominate the federation (whose HQ is even on Earth!) and periodically make war on the independents. On our Earth, we have a group of diverse nations and cultures. One nation (guess who?) dominates the largest group of nations and makes war on the others.
So, it turns out, you do live in the Star Trek world, after all. Where's my phaser?

Note to easily-offended Americans: try to recognize the humour in this post before you fly off the handle, OK?

niktomlinrhys,

I did'nt say labels were offensive, not even close to it, I said they divide instead of unite. Labels have nothing to do with ones history or culture or ethnicity. A person of asian ethicity can be born in the U.S., that makes him American by birth but he's still asian, nothing can change that - the label that some would give him is Asian American, why can't he just be an American, asian is his ethnicity. Being indigenous has nothing to do with who was there first but with place of origin. Maybe the Australian and New Zealanders have been there for thousands of years, bloody hell, but was there some people there before them?

Being native is have been born in that specific place or area. I'm native American because I was born here, I am half Indian because of my forefathers.

As silyy as people are now days I'm sure your Welsh name may offend them but I won't offend me.

Nick, perhaps one day we'll be able to have a few drinks together. I respect your views and ideas, I may not agree with them all but I do respect them.

Absolutely...the round is on me

Ok folks....my parents anniversary coming up ...lol.Been hitched 35 years....
and this brings me to the popular culture view as my lovely mummy remembers from her schooldays and teens .So I am about to get a collection of all their old fave songs and surprise them at this big party thats been organised .

Eagles and Lying Eyes is one that she speaks of.Did they do...ONLY WANNA BE WITH YOU too? Then Young Girl...Scott McKenzie ,Bob Dylan etc etc

According to her.....Yankee accents were a huge fascination in those days ...whats changed ?

She saw the Eagles recently on TV and it made her day .

Anyone come up with the best Americana of that era......let me know.....
