Both sides of this debate should meet up at a convention and just have.... sexy time. man on girl, girl on girl, boy on boy (seperate room though lol) and have good communications with each other, straight to anal.... STRAIGHT!! to anal....
My work here is done. Smiles with job satisfaction before walking away a happy man.

websters universal dictionary Atheist n. one who believes there is no God.
Woo! I'm not an atheist then because....... I don't believe there is a god.
It's a subtle distinction that seems to be lost on most Christians I've encountered. Most self-proclaimed Agnostics too.

are you disappointed? ~ dar
words seem to always get in the way ~
words are just tools used to attempt to convey concepts, but you need reference points of common understanding or they are just "letters" that makes words and void of meaning
I say black and you think~~~~~~? void of light?
I say yes and shake my head no and you think? ~~~~~ wtf!
I say devil and you think? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ red, evil one with horns and enjoys warm weather?
I say God and you think? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ energy that moves about and found in all things? or a supreme "being" , all seeing and all knowing, that others wish to believe created all things. Dresses in white, sits on a cloud and has a long beard and speaks in a big "outside " voice?
I'll offer this for your consideration ~~ God is not a being.

Don't try turning this back around on me, dancecard. You're the one making the assertions, not I. By asserting something, you stake a claim to actual knowledge.

I'm rather interested to hear of your 'firsthand' experience(s). You do understand the definition of 'firsthand', right ? Now remember, what you imagine in your head is not 'firsthand' experience, nor is an opinion you formulate based on your perception defined as 'firsthand', nor is a group of people's perception/opinions defined as 'firsthand', nor is hearing voices in your head defined as 'firsthand'.... schizophrenics hear voices too.
So please, enlighten us on on your 'firsthand' knowledge and experience.
You made this statement, under no uncertain terms, as fact :
I'll offer this for your consideration ~~ God is not a being.
So now, if you're backtracking and claiming to not be an expert in the field (ie: not in possession of firsthand knowledge). Then perhaps you should shy away from making such definate declarations.
Why is it that theists are great at making so-called 'factual' claims, and then are unable to back it up with evidential proofs ?
My guess ~ is there is many things in life that you have a hard time resisting. is this not so? ~~ dance

| Logical errors made by Atheists Posted: 5/3/2008 10:35:39 PM | well i proberly can answere this one if i may ,
Theism is the belief that god's exsist ,'Theism' is not an umbrella term for the various words that end with -theism. The concept does not prescribe to any particular understanding of what a "god" is supposed to be, nor does it define any specific relationship or hierarchy vis-à-vis other preternatural concepts (saints, angels, spirits etc).
that god's are the cause of existence (because everything that exists has a cause, and existence could not have caused itself). Consequently, gods exist outside the temporality of existence, and are thus immutable. thats what it means to be Theism.
As for me iam Atheists so my believe is that any thing that is not first proofen of it's exsistance is false another word's there has to be some kind of physical proof that it exsist or had exsisted at one time.

| Logical errors made by Atheists Posted: 5/4/2008 12:10:00 AM | Zealots are not a welcome site in Canada, we're too much of a stewing pot to allow it. So why did Canada allow separatists in Quebec? I lived and voted through two different referendums... both referendums and separatist movements fueled and run by zealots... and the feds, at EVERY turn, pandered to these zealots... Where is this "stewing pot" ideal in regard to anti-english language laws that are de riguer in quebec ??? You might speak for your region... but don't presume to speak for the whole of the country... There is NO stewing pot.. but regionals that find a way to accomodate and keep a country.. You want a stewing pot?? Go to the US. Quebec nationalism was anything but a "stewing pot"... be french, or be out... you only need so far as to look at bill 101 and the "office de langue francais" to understand that. I invite you... winnipegger.. to start a business in montreal where you post a sign for your business in english, or the language of your choice. Guess what, THAT advertisement must be BY LAW twice as small as the french words.. which you MUST, BY LAW, also include.. or face serious fines and prosecution. How "democratic". So what have the feds said about this lately ???
Stewing pot indeed..
Just pointing out some of YOUR errors. Quebec is still part of Canada, in Quebec, there is only one ingredient... french, no "stewing pot". Maybe a nice idea in Manitoba, but again, I invite you to settle in Saguenay Lac St Jean, tell me how much stewing pot there is there..
It is said there are 5 distinct and different regions to Canada... The Maritimes. Quebec. Ontario/central region. Prairies. Western.
Hardly a "stewing pot".
Given enough power.. zealots are very much tolerated in Canada..

AncientMuse said : Zealots are not a welcome site in Canada, we're too much of a stewing pot to allow it.
A Fortiori said : So why did Canada allow separatists in Quebec?
Alright then fortiori, my mistake, let me rephrase my sentence for you in order to clarify what I was saying :
"Religious zealots are not a welcome site in Canadian politics, we're too much of a stewing pot to allow it."
I'm not sure where you're relating french separatists with religious zealots in politics.
Dancecard :
My only response to you is the fact that you're dancing around my calling your bluff on stating a declaration. You did not opine the phrase, otherwise you would have said something like : 'in my opinion'. When you combine your last sentence with the rest of your post, it came across as very 'matter of factly' with a big fat period at the end.
Kind of like how I erroneously forgot to specify the word 'religious' alongside the word 'zealots' (just assuming that it would be understood when I said the word zealot, taking the forum/thread subject at hand and all) and thus, fortiori ran with the word 'zealots' as being any and all general zealots.
And stop personally attacking me, ad hominem does not go over well in forums. I attacked your declaration, not your character. Learn the difference. No need for you to bounce back with ad hominems.

I have yet to attack or call you any name ~ other then what you personal admitted to. I question your motives and behavior. ~
I've read all of your history post ~ it's clear you are bright ~ judgemental and quick to call things as you see them ~ I see no pattern of name calling ~ so ~ you kind of reached out there ~ on this one . ~ Please don't confuse me with your garden varity Christian. ~ everything here is an opinion, unless stated other wise. The problem with giving something way ~ it makes it void of value in many eyes. ~ If you worked for the knowledge it would have greater value.
There is no accessions of Expert ~ so don't label me a such. ~ your first attempt to label me. ~ and then you continued to label and attempt to debase my post. Is this not so?
Today, you can't offer proof that there isn't a God nor can you account for our presence.
Today, I can't offer proof that there is.
There is no error or fault on anyones part. ~ The answers are not yet in reach.
As our math and science continues to improve we get closer to anwsering these long asked questions. Until that time, it will continue to be subject of debate. ~
I see only effects of~ energy ~ as you do ~ there many things that exist that we only see the effect of ~ but we except their existance and have a word for them.

i believe and its my opion god dose not exsist nor will he ever exsist because there has been no evidence to back up to prove that god realy exsist but only for told in a book and through teaching's that's where science come's on to seek proof with out evidence there is no exsistence that god exsist but that's my opion.
But also i believe that we are not the only planet that carry life nasa had discoverd three other planets in another solar system close enough to the sun that could substaine life who know's that was discoverd some time ago but it's to far to travel .

I too believe; that many peoples idea of "what" God is ~~ does not exist
but it does not make me an Atheist but a free thinker ~ and I must content and accept others peoples views ~ as being their views and not shared by me. In "general spirit" we share some things but many ~~ not. ~

| Logical errors made by Atheists Posted: 5/10/2008 4:43:57 PM | Sometimes i think it is good that people believe in God and the way that religion is set out.
I mean... Imagine if everyone thought, when we die thats it... would it just be a world of people that don't give a fook about anything? would the social trend break down and crime and dispair rise a 1000 fold?
I would like to believe there is an after life though i can not see there being one. I mean if there is an after life then what is the pont in us dying now, why would God not just go, 'mah, you all just may as well live eternally as you are now.'
You could just say we are Gods experiment, nothing more than lab rats to his greater purpose we know nothing of, though with no evidence about anything it is all just guess work of course which is why this topic is probably one of the hardest subjects to cover.
None of what all of us are saying is relative, yet at the same time it is all relative lol

Imagine if everyone thought, when we die thats it... would it just be a world of people that don't give a fook about anything?
I don't think so. People would still care about their families and in particular the future of their children. I sometimes think that if we all believed there was no afterlife, we would actually be, on the whole, better people. I mean, would'nt you want to make sure you tried to leave the world a better place for those that follow if you believed this life is all we've got? I know I would.
I would like to believe there is an after life though i can not see there being one. I mean if there is an after life then what is the pont in us dying now, why would God not just go, 'mah, you all just may as well live eternally as you are now.'
I think this is a very good point. I often wonder weather Christians [and others that believe in an afterlife] think about why and for what purpose god would require that we live an average of 80 years [in the west] just to die and spend eternity in heaven. Why is it so important for him to want billions of souls living around him? What purpose would it serve?
Is he lonely? Does He not have access to a supernatural POF?

It might be a world where people more seriously consider the repercussions of their actions because they be more apt to believe that no action which only benefits the self has more weight than their legacy to the whole.

| Logical errors made by Atheists Posted: 5/11/2008 5:59:08 AM | you worship Einstein and Darwin. yet neither were atheists, lol. and Dawkins is just an angry, dogmatic little man. i compare him to an older brother, who has just discovered that Santa Claus isn't real, and then goes on to spoil it for all the younger children by showing them where the parents hide the gifts. | |

Oh not this shit again... how does this misconception continue to propagate.
Einstein most certainly did not believe in a personal god and was at best a pantheist but other than calling the universe "god" his views were almost completely indistinguishable from an atheist.
Darwin was a self admitted agnostic and by modern definition a weak atheist, he did not have a death bed conversion. The story of his conversion is a falsehood spread by the ignorant and has been denied by his own children and universally rejected by historians.
|
| Logical errors made by Atheists Posted: 5/11/2008 11:11:06 AM | [PS: I've never been particularly impressed with Dawkins or Einstein. While I've never read Darwin, I know enough to know that his theory was not the final say on evolution. In particular, genes had not been discovered yet, and their discovery meant a revolution on evolutionary theory. ]
exactly......even in the scientific comunnity evolution is still to be considered a theory....we still havent gotten the whole process down to a ...lets say..."science" but thats the thing with a theory it can be changed and adapted witht the intro duction of new data while most dogma cannot....and if the church does choose to change the dogma..(which they have in the past...the bible has had many revisions)then shouldnt that negate the need for a holy book if you can just choose what parts to adhere to? it seems awfully hypocrytical to me...i mean if god dictated the bible through others then why can we change it? isnt god perfect ? so musnt we follow the book to the letter? it just has so many gaps in it. the bible states that the jews are the "chosen ones" so havent the christians forsaken the faith? especially since worship of Jesus has surpassed that of God?(idol worship) i dont know i honestly havent read the bible fully..but from what i do know it seems awfully confusing....but at the same time enthralling

exactly......even in the scientific comunnity evolution is still to be considered a theory....we still havent gotten the whole process down to a ...lets say..."science" Why does it seem like 99% of the population does not know what a scientific theory is? Our education system needs a kick in the ass.
If you think that scientific usage of the term 'theory' implies uncertainty than you are greatly misinformed.
