| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/14/2008 1:04:35 PM | Nona37,
I appreciate your personal response to my post.
I must correct your inaccuracies though. Since you find cutting and pasting one's post your tool of preference to prove your point, I will do the same.
I first want to state that I personally have the utmost respect for the Canadian government. Canada has for the most part been a great ally to my country. With that being said and your mentioning of the war of 1812. Do not forget that there were other countries involved with this war, not just the US and Canada. You forgot to mention the UK and Ireland, Bermuda and Newfoundland.
First off the invasion of Canada was decided on by the US government at the time during the war of 1812 to disable the British and French troups.
Canada at that time was comprised of British/Irish/French settlers(the beginning of our great history of being multi-cultural)
Newfoundland has never been nor to this day is it a country. It is a province in Canada.
It was not the British that burned down the Whitehouse and was indeed Canadian forces, although I am sure many were made up of British/Irish/French immigrants.
I could go on about other statements you have made but I did not make my post to get into an argument with you or any other individual.
I must state though, my comment concerning Mr. Clinton had nothing to do with my liking one president over another and everything to do with looking at what he did for his country and how he represented himself and his country to other nations in the world.
He is by far not the first president to receive oral sex in the oval office, need we say the name Kennedy....
I speak from facts not ignorance.
I follow politics of all nations and how it will in turn effect the country that is my home and has been for my family since before Canada broke from British Rule and became it's own country with it's own constitution.
So, part of what you say is correct but mostly it is ill informed.
History is and by far my fav subject and I have studied it for decades.
I also am aware that even today Canada along with many other countries that were colonized by the British still belong to the common wealth.
In your countries own history the Boston Tea Party as it is famously known was caused by the fact that the American Colony now known as the United States of America did not wish to pay taxes on tea anymore to the Brits, who did indeed colonize the US also.
Also the American Revolution was a war of those still faithful to the British crown who colonized America against those who wished to break free and create their own destiny and rule.

See? You schooled me there, I had no clue :) As educated as I am, I am obviously not educated on the provinces of Canada. Thanks for correcting that by the way.
He is by far not the first president to receive oral sex in the oval office, need we say the name Kennedy....
I have to agree with you there, however, it's obvious he unlike the others was dumb enough to get caught. lol
I speak from facts not ignorance.
I do not understand why you would even state this, considering I did not reference you as ignorant. But ummm ok.
So, part of what you say is correct but mostly it is ill informed.
Alot of what I speak is historical facts, and of course throw my opinion in there and opinions are entitled to all at least last time I checked.
I would like to remind you of your inaccuracy on your original thread... Canada did not send troops to Vietnam.
I copy and past with quotes only due to people understanding what I am referring to, otherwise, it can get pretty confusing on here, until I learned to perform this task on here, I use to drive people crazy with my replies, not to say I do not drive people crazy now, but you get my point I'm sure.

| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/14/2008 1:43:42 PM | Hi again Nona,
I would like to remind you of your inaccuracy on your original thread... Canada did not send troops to Vietnam.
Fine I will address this one also as it seems you just want to be correct.
Yes, Canada did so send troups to the Vietnam war. And Canadians also took the the streets protesting this war.
My great uncle lost his life in this war and another came home missing his leg and blind from this war. So, don't tell me Canadians did not send troups into Vietnam.
We also sent troups to the Korean war and world war one and world war two amongst others, there are wars Canadians have been in that have never been publicized to back out brothers and sisters to the South.
That is why if you are the world traveler you claim to be you will know without a doubt that especially when traveling if you have a Canadian flag in any form on your person when traveling you are welcomed with open arms. Yet do that with an American flag and see the warmth you receive.
Again I don't want to argue with you, I just posted my thoughts and opinions you seem to be a very intelligent woman. I value a good intellectual debate.
|
| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/14/2008 4:15:16 PM | | Icey43 with all due respect, you'll never win a debate with her because she refuses to see the truth notwithstanding the fact that 70% of Americans disagree with her. Who really cares. I certainly don't. It's a huge waste of time. | |

| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/14/2008 4:35:39 PM | Icey:
Thanks you for the info. I did look up the information reference Canada and Vietnam. I do stand corrected reference Vietnam and Canada. According to the information I reviewed, Canada actually lost approximately 40,000 troops in Vietnam. I'm sorry for the loss of your Uncle. My uncle did not come back from Vietnam as well, my son is named after him.
Again I don't want to argue with you, I just posted my thoughts and opinions you seem to be a very intelligent woman. I value a good intellectual debate.
No need to argue Icey. I too value a good debate, especially when it is kept at debating as compared to mudflinging and crap propaganda. I actually learned two things since debating with you reference Newfoundland as well as the Vietnam war and Canada, so thanks :)
Blues:
Spoken like a man who can not debunk anything I said reference your propaganda. Good job!
70% of americans? Now you have conducted surveys and now am a statistician? I don't think so. Try dealing with facts as compared to your schoolyard accusations as well as propaganda.
I respect anyone who can prove me wrong, Icey did, you however, did not obviously.

Newfoundland has never been nor to this day is it a country. It is a province in Canada.
Wrong.
Newfoundland History Newfoundland Joins Canada (1946-1949) Newfoundland and Confederation (1949)
http://faculty.marianopolis.edu/c.belanger/NFLDHistory/ NewfoundlandJoinsCanada-Confederation1949.htm
In 1949, Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent welcomed Newfoundland into Confederation. A general certificate of Canadian citizenship, which covered all of Newfoundland’s British subjects, was issued. At that time, the residents of the island that were British born were declared “natural born” Canadians.
It was a British colony until then.
As for Canadian troops in Vietnam, they were not serving in Canadian uniforms. The only exception to this would be a very small number of men (typically officers) who trained with US forces as part of our regular exchange programs.
For example, there's a few in Iraq right now - wearing rather oversize Canadian flags on their uniforms - and getting some strange looks from both Americans and Iraqis.
Many Americans believe that Canada played no part in the Vietnam War. Nothing could be further from the truth. Though the Canadian government tried its best to remain neutral, Canadians themselves became involved. It is believed that Canadian enlistment in the US Army during the Vietnam era far surpassed the 30,000 who fled as draft dodgers to Canada.
Canadians serving in the US military is nothing new. This occurred as far back as the Civil War. Forty Canadians have won America’s highest military award – the Medal of Honor.
When the US became involved in war with Vietnam, many Canadian men joined the US Armed Forces or allowed themselves to be drafted. Canadian Forces were being cut back and Vietnam allowed Canadian youth to join the US military where they would be taught skills that were not available in their own country. Helicopter flying and mechanics was the goal of many young Canadian men. Another reason to join was the fight against communism and still others joined for adventure or personal reasons.

| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/14/2008 4:53:10 PM | Nona37, we are the same age, and I joined the military in '89... Our basic was more than a month... 11 weeks to be exact, almost 3 months... Further my "A" school took ano there year and a half, I believe it was referred to as Nuke School...
From there I was deployed and served proudly during DS, the first round...
Now, as far as McCain goes, I'm a Republican and I can't vote for the guy. Who cares if he is a veteran or not? Being a veteran does not automatically qualify you for the White House, I served with tons of guys I would not want to see in the White House. Would you let Max Clinger in the White House?
Really, in comparison to Clinton and Obama, there is very little information available on McCain outside of what he himself has made available. Further, he keeps stating, along with Clinton and Obama, that it's time for a change in DC... Well, if he truly believes this, why didn't he start this change decades ago when he got to DC?
I am actually depressed with our choices for President in this election.
We have Clinton who would like to Socialize everything, from houseing to healthcare... Give her a chance and she'll have Socialized auto maintenance...
Obama: The guy got caught with a racist preacher and through his own Grandmother under the bus as a rascist. No thank you, I can't trust the guy. Plain and simple. If you will throw Granny under the bus, what is to stop you from throwing the country under the bus when it serves your needs.
McCain: I just don't know much about him. But, what I do know, he's had ample opportunity to change things in Washington and has done nothing....
I vote Athulatha for President....

McCain: I just don't know much about him.
You better start looking at his platform, and looking at what that will mean to you as an American.

It's still not to late to learn.
Again, ironically, his platform is what will sink him in this election.

Obviously none are so blind as those who refuse to see. You don't read the papers? I think you only read your own threads.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/19/bush.poll/
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Five years after he green-lighted the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, President Bush faced strikingly low approval ratings as he reaffirmed his commitment to "accept no outcome but victory" in the war.
Just 31 percent of Americans approve of how President Bush is handling his job, according to a poll released Wednesday, the anniversary of the start of the conflict in 2003.

I will leave the Canadian Facts to you and Icey. It seems I was right but then agreed that I was wrong, eventhough I was right, ahhhh forget it! I"m confused obviously :) Good info though.
Danger Zone:
If your basic was three months long, it was NOT basic, it was bootcamp, and that makes you a marine. I myself joined in "88" and served in DS as well.
I am not voting for McCain solely on the grounds he is a veteran. That would be naive. To be quite frank with you, I"m voting for him not because I think he's just a swell guy, he's the best of the evils presenting themselves in my book.
In stating this, I do feel he has done alot for veterans, this is public knowledge and he's more experienced as compared to the other two candidates who have no plan at all other than "annihilating Iran" and "withdrawal of troops of Iraq", I do not feel that HIllary nor Obama will make good presidents...the only other choice is... McCain. I did state earlier in the thread, if Colin Powell was running for president, he would have my vote, not McCain.
Who is Athulatha? (I'm serious)
Obviously none are so blind as those who refuse to see. You don't read the papers? I think you only read your own threads.
Actually I read my own threads every morning over a cup of coffee and a donut along with my life size cut out of Ann Coulter seated on the opposite of the table.
Just 31 percent of Americans approve of how President Bush is handling his job, according to a poll released Wednesday, the anniversary of the start of the conflict in 2003.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that the majority of the country is indeed against the war, therefore, this is a fact that I along with most with brains already knew. There ya go mentioning Bush again, and with a link dated back to 2003 nonetheless, nice try. Bush will no longer be president soon. The way you keep carring on and on about Bush makes me wonder who's name you call out in your sleep.

My complaint with it is that it doesn't fix what's broke, but feeds it.

The government taxing individuals to provide health care, be it through a government owned and operated, or government financed private insurance company, is a form of socialism.
Medicare is a form of Socialism. Medicaid is a form of Socialism. Both have systems run through private health care management companies.

| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/14/2008 6:12:30 PM | Montreal guy, hi from one Canuck to another...
Nona is still wrong at no time was Newfoundland ever a country....
It was as was the rest of Canada a British Colony....
Just as Quebec has never been it's own country but a French colony. Even though the separatists have tried to make Quebec it's own country.
That was inducted as a province into Canada when Canada was it's own country and no longer a British Colony.
I am still correct.
And yes Canadians did serve in Vietnam and yes Canadians are serving in Iraq.
I was just pointing out to Nona that her information was incorrect.
|
| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/14/2008 6:45:55 PM | | I agree with Itech that Clinton's health care plan is just more of the same--it doesn't get to the root of the problem. We need to do something about the greedy private health insurance companies--I've been deferring needed health care because I am too broke to even pay the copayments. I can only imagine with rising gas costs, more and more people are going to do the same, making us sicker and poorer. It's high time we did something about it, such as Medicare for all. HR 676 sorely needs to be passed. It is sitting in the doldrums with a do nothing Congress and an idiot president who is so clueless as to what the average American deals with. | |
|
| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/15/2008 12:28:19 AM | | The first thing you have to do is take ALL the HMOs out of the equation. They're all crooked and do nothing to deliver health care. They're bean counters who are concerned with nothing but the bottom line. Period. | |
|
| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/15/2008 4:14:44 PM | In Canada as with other countries we have social Health care and it works.
Everyone is entitled to health care and you or your family should not have to go broke for generations b/c someone should fall ill.
I think it is atrocious that the USA which touts itself as being so wonderful does not provide Education/Health Care and Housing to it's people.
Your country can only be as strong as your people.
And the children that are educated today are the leaders of tomorrow.
Even third world countries such as Cuba have free health care to all Cuban's.
Happy to be a Canuck and know that me getting sick will not break the bank.

| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/15/2008 4:38:44 PM | But your medical system itself isn't socialized is it Icey? If I understand correctly it's a single payer insurance system?
And Danger, the thing is that when everyone thinks of socialized medicine they are afraid that instead of seeing a coronary specialist of their choosing that they'll be sent to an auto mechanic of the government's choosing 500 miles away and that's not what any of the plans propose.
| |
|
| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/16/2008 10:44:46 AM | In Canada We have what is called Universal Medicare. Which means you pay for your medical insurance which everyone by the way is entitled too by what you make. So those that are at poverty level pay nothing and the wealthy pay the most.
You can go to whatever Dr. or specialist you choose to go too. You are not restricted.
If you go to the Emergency ward at the hosptial you provide your medical card and you are covered.
We also have a pharmacare plan that covers a good portion of perscription drug costs.
As I work in health care I am also covered by extended health which covers Dental and other things that might not be considered necessary under our medical plan.
I don't worry about me or my family being in an accident or falling ill. When my Aunt was diagnosed with Cancer she was given the best Medical Care available and did not loose her home or her savings in order to receive this care.
I am at present getting over Bronchitis and my chest xray/visit to my Dr. was all covered by my medical. And with my extended health I only had to pay 20 percent of what the pharmacists charge for my perscription to be filled.
We have a great Medical system that every Canadian would fight to the death to keep.
You can never be denied by an HMO for medical treatment that your Dr or specialist feels you need.
HMO's are only there to make money, like any other insurance company. They are not out to protect you they are out to protect the profits for the share holders.

| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/26/2008 11:29:32 AM | WE as Canadians have had to go bail out the Americans in every war they have gotten themselves entangled in.
please ! don't make me be mean to you ~
A far as the Iraq campaign ~ "This liberal" finds the middle of the river a bad place to decide to quit swimming. ~ I don't really give a damn about Iraq or it's people. ~
They ~ just like us ~ had the govenment that they "as a people" stood still for and deserved.
But ~ like Colin Powell said, "You break it ~ you bought it" ~ and that's where we are at now ~
We can't back up ~ it is impossible ~ we can blame and be upset and angry ~ and that won't change a thing.
The American people have also enjoyed the government that they deserve ~ so suck it up ` big boy ~ damn shame we keep having to relearning the same damn thing over and over.
So now we are at the cross roads ~~ and no options looks very appealing ~
I'm for buying the place ~ and sending Corperate America there ~ Walmart and Mc Donalds' ~ Geo and Channey and Rumfield with their families ~ Build some factories ~ sent over 10,00o horne white boys thats cooling their heels here is the state ~ with this staginated ecomomy.
Let them make a bunch of blue and green eyed babies ~ Americaize 'em ~ or get the hell out of there.
Like the the Duke might say " It's one or the other ~ which one will it be?"
Doing whats been done ~ is not working ~ but only funneling money to people I don't know. ~ and thats what many people want to continue to happen. ~ They are in the food chain that the rest of us fails to enjoy ~the fail to understand why we are upset ~ as we feed this debacle our sons and daughters. dance
|
| Hilary Clinton.... Posted: 5/29/2008 5:19:50 AM | Once given the power and money ~ people , insitutions, arms of government, or industries ~ they become very powerful and almost impossible to reign in.
That where we are at with insurance companies,(HMO's) in America today. It's be easier to remove the Lone Ranger's mask ~ then relax the death grip the insurance companies have on us. ~
It's two seperate things working together it seems , ~ health care and insurance companies.
and we will continue to get ~ what we allow and will stand still for. I feel it's take a revolt of major import ` to change much at this point. ~
To even discuss this ~ the word " socialist" is the first word that comes forward ~ usally by people that like things the way they are ~ and socialist is just around the corner for comminist! ~ Then the word capitalist come up! ~ the old , supply and demand thingy! ~
This has been approached by some of the brightest minds in the nation ~ it's very clear something is wrong and not working well ~ but there seems to be no solution.
We've got to much dead weight to carry ~ and the sick and poor will drain you down to nothing if you allow them too. ~
I've presently took in lady ~ with a broken hip ~ she's homeless ~ offered her a safe place to heal up ~ a place to stay for awhile ~
It was never my intentions to be a complete support system! ` cab service, care giver, food provider, ~ her "needs" extend will beyond my intentions. ~
I've received an education in the last 6 months~ woke up last night and it was 59 degress in the house ~ and 76 degrees outside. ~ she's jacking with the AC thermostat. ~ Let the commode run for hours ~ try to burn the house down with her kitchen habits. ~ the abilty to think and reason is just not there! ~ She seems to live in a world where everything is free! She must only find the right line and stay in it long enough!
People are poor ~ for many resaons ~ theres not just one. ~ and it's limited as to how much you can help them. ~ You can stuggle and do without ~ only for them to squander and waste.
and this is what pisses working people , both liberals and conservatives off with regards to the needy ~ you give and they squander ~ or you give and the wealthy steal.
anybody ~ got a good answer for this problem? ~ I'm at a loss ~

Why does poverty grow in this country the more government programs go into place to help them?
Assuming the statement is correct ~ It'd be my guess ~ increased life span
which make some sense ~ We intervene where nature would cull.
Those that do not produce or serve fellowmankind in some fashion ~ are living on the love and charity of others ~ and or the fruits of a productive past life.
My case study ~ here at the home ~ I've seen nothing but take and take from me and others and from a half broken system.
Surly she didn't live all her life that way! ~ but it's the only side of her that I've seen, I've quized her about her life ~ I learned she offers me a stanted view. ~ She's at that point where, everything is someone elses fault ~ seemly taking no resposibility of her part in lifes play.
I'l be happy when she's gone ~ I worry about her health ~ and told her so, She say , why? I'm fine! ~ yea? well that can change quick enough!
