| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/9/2008 8:15:34 PM | | Women goto the bathroom in packs...they kiss at the bar and treat each other like they are girl friends...even when their not. I would have to say, that her having a girlfriend isn't a big deal... | |

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/9/2008 8:17:47 PM | I agree with the majority. I don't say "girlfriend" but I am the odd man out, most of my friends refer to female friends with that word.
I think this is a girl with her priorities straight. Boyfriends come and go but girlfriends are forever. Next time, plan ahead. Exactly.

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/9/2008 8:24:39 PM | Very unlikely she's dating this girl, here's why:
She would never consider going out with you if she had a relationship serious enough with another person to call the girlfriend.
Imagine if she said boyfriend? That wouldn't add up.

Hellooooooo...........Did you grow up an a desert island? Or is your ego so large that you can not fathom why she would not drop everything to spend time with you?

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/10/2008 7:19:42 AM | | I live in SC, and lots of ladies from the lower part of the state refer to their female friends as "my girlfriend" as do many of the women I know that are 40 + years of age. | |
|
| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/10/2008 2:10:26 PM | So...she has a girlfriend...so what?
It doesn't necessarily mean they're sharing sexual experiences together...
It's always the guys that attach that stupid scenario to the terminology...
It goes to show where a man's mind dwells most of the time...Is it any wonder why we get manipulated so easily?
"Can I play too?"
See? | |

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/10/2008 3:02:55 PM | I have and will probably continue to do so. Thanks for giving me a heads up that it could possibly be taken another way.
Do women usually refer to their female friends like this?

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/10/2008 3:48:19 PM | Age-old question. When I was a little girl, my mother used to tell me "you and your girlfriends need to go play outside." What that meant was that me and the neighborhood girls needed to get out from underfoot. It was just a phrase I was used to. So now as an adult, when I'm out with the gals, I still call them "girlfriends."
As with Most men... When I'm out with my Male-Friends, I call them my "Buddies." Theres a BIG difference there. None of my "Buddies" are 'Boyfriends,' and none of my "Girlfriends" are friends in any type of romantic or sexual context.
And even my MARRIED and NOT Cheating friends call their gal-pals "girlfriends." And yep, you guessed it, they also have their... "Buddies" which are ... Guys...
OP, if you are worried about your girl jumping the fence, ask her to clarify what she means. You are probably jumping to conclusions and making assumptions.. We all know what assumptions gets someone...
If there's any shafting going on, I'm thinking it's self-inflicted...

he's probably just lurking under another ID. I bet you're right, Loislane. He is probably watching this thread and scratching his head...like this -----> , and asking himself: What was I thinkin' (drinkin') when I asked such a stupid question?

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/10/2008 6:51:06 PM | | Why not ask her? I think she would be the only one to give you the answer you seek as to what the 'girlfriend' comment entails. I would not even worry about it either way unless things start to get semiserious. | |

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/10/2008 8:25:43 PM | | He probably just hasn't heard the term used in that context. Now that his profile's gone I don't know how old he is, but 'girlfriend' as a platonic term has gone in and out of usage. It was used in the 50s and it's in now, but in between, less so. | |

..........Did you grow up an a desert island?
This is one of those moments when you wonder if half the population just crawled out from their cave.
Or is your ego so large that you can not fathom why she would not drop everything to spend time with you?
Yep, if women don’t drop everything to go on a last second date, we’re shallow, stuck-up, controlling and now gay!

Yevgeny wrote: Can I refer to my female friends as girlfriends? The technical definition of "girlfriend" is controversial. I call any female friend with whom I have an intimate emotional connection (a.k.a. love) my girlfriend. Not everybody agrees, however, so it may not be a bad idea to clarify what you mean for the people you're talking to.
|
| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/11/2008 7:56:37 AM | The term "girlfriend" is predominantly used by heterosexual women over thirty. You're more likely to hear my 53 year old mom talk about her girlfriends than 24 year old me, the reason being most likely that my mom's generation never would have suspected girlfriend of meaning anything sexual, whereas mine might.
Younger women do use it too, but less frequently. I think other posters have it right on; she was either using it deliberately to let you know that she wasn't out with another guy, or she was using it as a regular part of her vernacular to mean female friend. I am 99.5 percent sure without knowing this woman that she meant it in a platonic sense.

Or perhaps she is a representative of GLAD and counting on your sausageless support since you're incapable of forgoing wishfull thinking for rational deduction..

I can't see where he feels he is getting shafted except if he wrote this while he was with his boyfriend...

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/11/2008 11:29:20 AM | Yes it's NORMAL for women to call their platonic female friends 'girlfriends'. It does not mean anything sexual. :P
However, SOME of us are adults who date other grown women and are confident in our sexuality and therefore it can't be ruled out.
Well, she's giving you the time of day so that means she likes you and either she's straight or Bi. If she hasn't told you, then either she's straight or she doesn't think it's necessary yet.
If it's still puzzling you and you aren't sure by her comments to / interactions with other women or friends, then just ask her! You don't even have to be serious about it, just say something like 'girlfriend or GIRLFRIEND?'
She might laugh it off but she should clear it up right then and you'll have your answer. ;) No sense in wondering.

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/11/2008 1:26:07 PM | Just a question: Since when does meeting for a coffee have to be determined upon : sexual orientation unlesss the whole "getting to know each other was discussing sex"... I thought that when ppl, chat and enjoy their discussions meeting for a coffee is for the purpose of "hey i missed chatting with ya... lets get together and catch up, I really enjoy your company"... (it doesnt have to be... sexually oriented... you know opposite genders can be just friends)
So ask yourself... If she was lesbian.. would that defer you from talking to her again hense no sexuall compatibility would follow... ???
Just something to think about... Get to know her as a person... If you are enjoying her company and love her personality it shouldn't matter ....don't limit yourself from meeting ppl whom you klick with , cause a good friend should never be put aside , for the piece of pie. Just my 0.02$.

| This girl has a girlfriend?? Posted: 4/11/2008 2:37:37 PM | | OP. Don't be so insecure, if you have questions, ask her. There will be other bigger questions that come up. You need to be able to communicate if you're hoping to have any kind of meaningful relationship. | |
