He is honest reliable with enuf under the bonnet to keep me satisfied  lately drinks toooooo much tho............
I wouldnt mind an older model jag or gt falcon but that is a dream these days and my Kosta keeps me out of mischief hehehehehehehehe car makes great man replacement! | |

And my poor old work hack Fairlane ( now retired ) was like a mobile porno movie with all the moaning and groaning......no it wasn't me getting lucky......it was the flogged out suspension. | |

The problem with small and economical is that it often doesn't cope with a hard pounding offroad.
However, a hose down will sort out the dust & shit and a gentle vacuuming will get rid of the cobwebs.
Following a standard lube, an increase in performance will be noticeable even before the service is finished, especially if it is a bit overdue . | |

One is an old Mazda 929 (faded glory) (was going to put it on ebay for $1 but couldn’t be bothered) The other is a Toyota Landcruiser (I know its not very environmentally friendly but it has 8seats so its like a guys Tarago. You won't catch me in a Kia Carnival. The added bonus is I can take it bush on those beach camping weekends, and tow the boat up the ramp without spinning wheels. I am not sure what these say about me? | |

What does it say about me?????
That I got bogged in a horse paddock, in the pitch black in mud up to my knees, and fell over in it.... That I take risks, that I can find 'the funny' in any situation. That I'm not as good at doing everything on my own as I think I am. | |

Posted: 8/5/2008 8:39:48 PM | Like all of you I've had a few vehicles over the years and as a result of these 'journeys'.....,
...., the current one has been purposefully sourced and set-up to get me to the places that are important to me.
It gets me to those hidden special places 'out there'...., in a cheap, safe and 'low impact' fashion.
The 'unbuilt environment' is where it's at for me...., and leaving it as I found it etc etc...., Im sure you all know that spiel.
This vehicle probably says/reveals a lot about me..., but also there is much that is unsaid....,
It is...., at the moment very dirty ( keeps people away from it)...., lots of dog hair (always room for animals..., other than me),
beach sand and rubbish on the floor....., passenger side floor is the designated bin area.
Some of the things internally..., a good sound system, uhf and hf transmitters, GPS mount (I love a gadget or two), extra 'Hella' plugs for fridge and external work lights.
Externally..., winch, etra tyres, jerry cans, alloy roof rack (swag n mossie screen on roof in the warmer places), rollup side canvas canopy, compressor and 80 litre pressurised water tank for tap and shower outlets (only quick showers).
It's a 98 Hilux ('Highrust') 4WD (extra cab) and it has a lot of mods. I maintain it myself...., although Im not a 'bogan' about it.
I very deliberately drive 'off road' so as to NOT disturb the earth...., at the worst as little as possible (tread lightly etc etc).
I expect that I will have to revert to bicycles in the future. | |

omg for a minute there SandyFreckle I thought you'd stolen my car. You describe it to a T with those bits. I was relieved to see the rest of the description didn't match though. And of course, the fact that my car is sitting in my driveway, was another clue.
My car is quite eyecatching when it's clean, and it really deserves a better owner. But inanimate objects have never featured that highly on my priorities. I do admire and enjoy it for what it is...zoom zoom...but realistically it would be better cared for were it a critter rather than a critter-transport-vehicle. | |

I then factored in the purchase price of the cars and the expected life - this narrowed the choice down to three. Then I spoke to a mechanic friend and asked him which make was the most reliable. After all that I then went to the Toyota showroom and purchased my Echo.
Yeah I know, truly pathetic.
The nice way of looking at it? I am down-to-earth and sensible. The other way to look at it? I am an*l! | |

Posted: 8/9/2008 9:35:08 PM | My "vehicle" doesn't say much about me. I ignore it, it ignores me. It's a biker's car, that gets used once in a blue moon to tow something or as a shopping trolley for stuff that I can't fit on my bikes, or to loan to friends. It's 30 years old, tatty, with faded spotty paint, a gigantic facsimile bird vomit down one side, and a multitude of minor scrapes and dents. It weighs a ton and a half, looks frightful, and has a marvellous traffic repulsor field with every wankermobile giving it a very wide berth. So I guess it says "look out! bomb about to go off!" 
As for the original question, I wouldn't be spending 10 or 20 matchsticks, let alone $, on ANY car; I'm perfectly happy with the car I have now... a Volvo station wagon. Yes, I have a hat.  They don't make them like that any more!  It does exactly what I want from a car, and will continue to do so for as long as I can afford petrol for it.
