Do you believe in life after death??
Posted: 4/11/2008 3:11:08 PM
I come from a very 'Christ based religion' family...., and personally Ive had enough of these 'carrot dangling' inducments...,
...., as in "if you do this present life 'good stuff'..., you will get this after life 'good stuff'".
....," but youll have to wait till your cactus to get it" ...., Rrrriiiight !

Having recovered somewhat from the 'Christ based religion'..., Buddhism is my chosen 'best model philosophy' now...,
..., but I really cant go the reincarnation thing.
We are all just going to be compost eventually ..., so best start a relationship with compost now...!

I reckon its best to live the life you are 'within'..., as if its the 'main event'....,

when you die you come back as something higher. This goes on until you become human (the last stage)

I've often pondered whether it might be the other way around. Start as humans, then get the chance to see life through the eyes of the other species who have to put up with us.

I have read that the physical sensation of death is a cross between orgasm, and that feeling you get just before you fall asleep. (some cynics might say, one and the same feeling for a man...joke.) I have only ever watched one person die, and he smiled as he left. A friend of mine who watched her Mum die said the same thing. When babies are born they cry...I find it interesting that we cry when we arrive and smile with relief when we leave. I'm sure it's not that simple, but I still find that interesting as a thought.

My impression of death is that we first move into a state of total awareness of ourselves, and that as that occurs we truly feel the result of who we have been, and that any 'judgement' that goes on is judgement of ourselves. But the 'us' that is doing the judging is not the 'us' as we are now, constrained by our brain and our physicality and our ego and our humanity as we are...instead we will see ourselves as we truly are in terms of total perspective, and we will be pained by the wrongs done and pleased with the ways we did get it right. And we might even be surprised at what right and wrong actually is, because I believe we change from a state of perceived 'understanding' and instead we 'feel' things. As if the way we see things now is like looking at things through various veils, and death will give us a totally unveiled look at it all. We will feel the absolute truth, rather than know it. We will feel right and wrong, rather than decide it. We will feel the pain we caused. We will feel the joy we caused. We will feel everything!! in a way that we are not capable of doing as physical humans. And then I believe that expansion continues until we stop being 'us' as such and instead become part of everything. A universal energy.

Maybe that all sounds pretty weird, and I have no idea why I think that. I just do.

Then again, I have read some pretty compelling anecdotal evidence surrounding reincarnation...which I haven't quite slotted into my personal jigaw yet. It's something we all must work out for ourselves.

Wow!! Double superditto Ms.N ^^^ That covers it entire.

As for reincarnation...

My impression of death is that we first move into a state of total awareness...\\ ...(and) become part of everything. A universal energy.

I think you've described reincarnation too.

And finally, Wow!! Again.

^^^ Actually given recent events I am surprised you're not dead yet.

Thanks LyingCheat...nice to know I am not the only one who has weird images of how it goes. The veils image in my head no doubt stems from something that really struck a chord with me when I read Skinny Legs and All. (Tom Robbins) (shaddap Hilly) And yeah I guess the reincarnation still fits with the idea of energy being 'recycled' as such...but if we do blend, it's the retention of memory of past life that is causing the pieces to seem a little out of kilter in my mind. Perhaps it depends how blended with universal energy your own current personal energy gets before the reincarnation occurs that determines the difference?

Come Tuesday. That's an apt name for it... kinda like Shrove Tuesday or something, but bound to be far more popular.
But I think you spelled it wrong.

Petite Mort

The term has generally been interpreted to describe the post-orgasmic fainting spells[1] or unconsciousness some lovers experience.

Yeah well it's perhaps best not to. It can, in some cases, hasten death.

yes, I like the concept that there's a bigger plan and meaning in life.

The whole lot?? maybe just start with the Lords Prayer because you'll be dead before you get through Genesis if you've only got 12 minutes!!

I beleive. It makes it easier to understand why some poeple's lives are so screwy. Things to learn and all that.

(I had something really serious to say...but got sidetracked with the convo.)

Re msg 29 by Ms. Naamah...., in the last few days I just returned from very emotional funeral of a best mate of many years.....,
and loved you personal 'take'...,(I had heard parts in a similar explanation before)...., but this was special..., I hope you dont mind if I purloin 'it'...., purely for my own clearer understanding.
I think more than a touch of a buddha in you. Ms N.

I don't believe any state after death will involve us 'existing' with the same sense of personal identity as we have in our present range of experience.

Yeah Bewitched I have these friends who are just the nicest people with a beautiful loving family, do anything for anybody, but all this weird shit and unbelievable bad luck keeps happening to them, like totally bizarre stuff you would never wish on your worst enemy, and somehow they just keep on keeping on and being nice to everyone, buggered if I know how they do it, I'm not religious but I think it's like that saying that we are each given as much as we can handle, hopefully we learn something, and move on
