| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 2:28:39 PM | | The attacking of both teams was a bit weak in this match. Spain better step it up against the Russians. Not sure the Spanish back line can maintain the Russians constant attacking mode. | |

| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 2:43:17 PM | Suck a Turc0 lol Oh wait you have already done that.
Doesnt really matter. Still world champs. Considering a dud coach, out of form players and dud selections. Now Donadoni is gone, and Lippi can come back. 2010 looks promising.
A lot more than yours. What has your Country won again?
|
| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 2:50:09 PM | Game over for the Italians, their negative approach to this tournament has finally backfired! They were obviously trying to take the game to penalties, but spain beat them to that. Good for spain, the jinx has finally been broken, hope they take it all the way to the finals, and if possible....win the tournament!
Hey asian chick, mind how you throw>>>>

| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 3:40:31 PM | Lol ya wingnut. My countrys legend will always be there.
Winning 4 world cups sort of does that. Second most succesful team in world cup history and most succesful Euro country.
lol Divers. A SPANNISH player got a yellow for diving in that game.

| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 4:53:17 PM | | My oh my...how the "once" mighty have fallen...and to think that people used to make fun of the EPL or other nation's leagues or national teams...Italy were a total and utter disgrace this tournament...they never once tried to play football...and they are ranked number three in the world right???? | |
|
| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 5:09:47 PM | What can you do with a dud coach, and injuries and bad selections? Lippi's is coming back, and theres a lot of young talent coming through.
Italy were very defensive this morning...but truth is they adopted the same tactics they did against australia in WC....they allowed the spanish to have the ball and pass it around....but as soon as they went through the middle they closed them up in numbers......they were than happy for them to go wide and pass it around in midfield.
Of course alot of people would see Spain pass it around and think theyre dominating and not understanding the tactics involved. Spains strength was their quick midfield...and italy adopted tactics to nullify that which they did. They had No Pirlo...they had no cannavaro so they had to adjust. Tactically they did the job...Spain couldnt breakthrough and were resigned to having shots from outside the box. Aesthetically wasnt the prettiest game but tactically was interesting to watch.

| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 5:30:29 PM | | quite frankly (no pun intended), the Italian defensive style is the most horrific soccer to watch. At the last World Cup, they played an offensive striking style of soccer that was exciting to watch...and silenced the critics. I think this tourney was a step backwards for the program...hopefully they can go back to the offensive style that they played that won them the World Cup. It really is that much better...for both the detracters and fans alike to watch. | |

| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/22/2008 8:18:35 PM | Vin:
I know you're an Alberta dude and all but...thank God Italy lost. OK, I'll give Italy credit, they are a good team in the whole world of Football, but oh man, they are the kings of drama queens. They're better than Brasil !.
BTW, what the hell happened to England ?
|
| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/23/2008 1:53:58 AM | England just couldn't qualify for the euro tournament, what a shame! Im thinking...had it been England qualified, they probably would have been disgraced by the these other teams, cos the tempo of the game is just too fast and i reckon England wouldn't have been able to cope.
Good thing they didn't qualify, so they can sit at home and learn one or two from the tournament in general and then realise they are not all that, and probably buckle up for the world cup qualifiers.

It's not rocket science Frankster. I think we all knew what Italy were doing. Many of us were hoping that they would at least TRY and play some football. Spain tried to play, they were positive, but as is often the case, if the inferior team throws 11 players behind the ball and refuses to go forward for 99.9% of the game, it is very difficult to break through.
Having said that, the ref was terrible: Spain were denied a couple of fairly obvious penalties, the Italian players spent a good deal of time diving and faking injury to break up any Spanish momentum and never got punished for it.
Apart from one or two half chances, the only team that looked like scoring were Spain, they should have taken one or two of the openings they carved out.
And what about their coach???? Why would Fabergas not start, he was brilliant when he came on? Why would you EVER take Torres off the pitch?

What like? Playing 4 carthorses in the centre of midfield & a big donkey up front that couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo? lol
Yeah we aren't there because we were not the best in qualifying & you are right we do struggle against teams that play at a tempo....but which teams don't? The Dutch...who everyone had started to really fancy got undone by a very good Russian side...who came from which qualification group incidentally? hmmm
Like you say PROBABLY...all about proabilities innit?

Now your lads are out, shuffle off to the back of the room & stand quitely in the dark corners where noone can see you.
BYE BYE Italy.........Come on Spain
If Spain don't win then hope Russia do it.
|
| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/23/2008 3:29:51 AM | Seeing as your team didnt even qaulify, You should have never come out of that dark corner. lol. Btw. The Asian chick got borderline racist first.
Kirk they had to try and nullify one of the best midfields in the world. What did you expect them to do? Play an open attacking game and get torn to shreds? Without the players to do it. Anyway doesnt matter.

England play at a very fast tempo. Its tactically and technically that they are behind the 8 ball. Skill on the ball.

Well, then they are a poor team after all...which you were very annoyed about when it was suggested much earlier on this thread. They are currently a weak team, with poor attacking players, a mediocre midfield and they play dreadfully negative football. Italian football is in a serious tailspin at the moment and it has nothing to do with whether they are FIFA "darlings" or whether people are biased. They are a weakened team that played very badly at this tournament and came very close to being knocked at the group stages. They are nowhere NEAR the third best team on the planet on the evidence of this tournament...For the sake of European football I truly hope they manage to turn things around.
|
| euro 2008 who will win it? Posted: 6/23/2008 4:14:44 AM | Keyword being weakened. All teams have generational change. Bring it on. Donadoni, while he comes across as a great guy, was rather out of his depth and inexperienced.
Of course they will turn it around. They have the talent pool.
