Nice list NoseyNeighbor.
Somewhere a poster mentioned schools teaching children we evolved from monkeys and I was contemplating whether I should speak up about that misinformation. I was too lazy to reply.

I think the biggest lie that is lived daily is "Jesus".

He's a carbon copy of Horus. A Persian myth.

Jesus also is very similar to Baldr from Norse mythology.
Right down to Mistletoe relating to both their deaths.
Mistletoe was/is sacred in many pagan beliefs and both Jesus and Baldr's death cast Mistletoe as very bad and should be damned.

The funniest one I like is the myth that a lot of milk will make your bones strong. Sorry guys, there's less calcium in milk than there is in tap water, it's mostly oils, fats, and sugars.

Youtube even has a video about the 100's of crucified saviors b4 Jesus.

The whole thing about the dude is astrological.

On December 24th, the "3 kings" which is the 3 stars of Orions belt line up with Sirius and point to the "sun"rise on December 25th.

This is an absolutely fabulous question, OP.

Fact:
There are an estimated one billion+ self proclaimed, righteous Christians on our planet. Some are true Christians. But not all.

Lies:
As a wise man once said: your actions speak so loudly that I can't hear what your mouth is saying.

Yes, it is that simple.

New Scientist It is not a peer-reviewed scientific journal. It bills itself as "an ideas magazine". New Scientist has been criticized as sensationalist, engaging in "meaningless double-talk" and showing a lack of basic knowledge by its writers Egan (2006). In other words, the National Enquirer of science. Junk science.

I'll take a neuro surgeon or even a robot any day...over an animal. I'll listen to the views of a philosopher or abstractionist any day...over the basic hand signals of a chimp.

Couple that I hear and read on the forums:

1) Large corporations are inherently evil - they aren't nor are they inherently good.

2) USA government is inherently evil. It pretty well reflects the divided will/thinking of the people it governs-so divided that it is miracle when government accomplishes anything.

- Pretty much the whole 'global warming is false' mania.

- The wealthy pay their fair share in taxes.

- We will not have better health care under a government run health care system.

- Rasing the minimum wage does not help anyone making minimum wage and doesn't help entry level workers.

- Gun control does not keep criminals from obtainng guns.

- law of attraction

- people can 'make' us feel the way we feel

- humans know enough to prove God doesn't exist

- Obama is Muslim

- all Muslims want to destroy western civilization

- the Bible supports bigotry and hate

- anything on the internet, especially theories about the evils of garlic and how electricity can ruin man's spiritual soul, is absolute truth

- everybody on the internet claiming to be a scientist or physician is one and should be believed absolutely

The top 5% of wage earners pay 60% of the income tax collected, the top 10% pay 70% and the top 50% pay 97% of the taxes. Do the wealthy require that much more government than the less fortunate? What is a fair share?

I think I've seen data on both sides of this issue. The data that I'd consider the most accurate is in disagreement with your statement.

There are so many guns in America that I think that it would take a long time for any gun control laws to have much of an impact period on criminal activities.

For the people that have health insurance this ain't no myth its fact. For those that don't have it I'd agree that government furnished health care would be an upgrade.

>>>There are so many guns in America that I think that it would take a long time for any gun control laws to have much of an impact period on criminal activities.

Nice Qualifier- so even if the conditions you preach are pristine, your results may still be negative for an unknown amount of time(a year? 10 years? 500 years?), during which only violent offenders and people responding to violent attacks will have the right to defend themselves- the rest of us can be fodder for social experiments! Yay! Thank god my life is insignificant enough for you to gamble on it!

>>>For the people that have health insurance this ain't no myth its fact. For those that don't have it I'd agree that government furnished health care would be an upgrade.

And if the Government offered free rations to everyone in the world, then the people who have nothing to eat would gain from it- once again, you're creating qualifiers focusing solely on those who cannot or choose not to do anything responsible- maybe the Government should force us to drink water they offered- it'd certainly be an improvement over those who have none- or maybe the Government should force us all to us shelters they supplied- it'd be an improvement over those who have none.

Kinda funny how justifying your beliefs by saying the very poorest have something to gain can be applied to really any argument- making that argument really kinda moot, because then it only addressed half the issue- what about my rights- what if I choose to NOT take the Government program, even if its phenomenal? Should I still be forced under threat of arrest to pay for it? What if my needs are not covered- as we speak, I have a chipped tooth and need glasses- my government is nice enough to take my money from me for my health, but they refuse to spend my money on my actual medical needs, thus leaving me with chipped teeth and flawed vision- how is this a better solution than me simply taking the money I lost from taxes and putting THAT towards my own health needs?

you need 8 glasses of water a day
this is a myth
rebuttal and i will prove you wrong

It is? Maybe if not lazy and not active. Physically active people do need at least 8 glasses of water a day otherwise they would dehydrate. Plus in the summer time you tend to sweat out a lot of fluid.

I think we are pretty much in agreement aren't we? I don't think gun control would be effective in curbing criminal activities and I don't like the idea of government furnished health care either.

I think the greatest mythtoday is that we can acheive global peace and equality and fairness for all. As a humanist, as muchas I would like to believe this, I seeno evidence of this ever happening. Empires rise and fall. Societies go through periods of darkness as well as .enlightenment. Who isto say that 500 years from now, western civilization will not go through another dark age? That there will never be another holocaust? A famine?
