| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/27/2008 9:25:46 AM | I like the idea of a non smoking party. It might be hard to accomplish but it would be a blast like all the other POF parties. I'd be there for sure! Thanks for the forum tonyn1.

No matter how good the ventilation, you still come home smelling like a chimney, my eyes are burning and I am hoarse from breathing it in. Nothing at all against smokers, they have rights too and love to see them when I go.
It would be fun to dance in clean air once.

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/27/2008 10:38:31 PM | The issue of being exposed to smoke has kept me from attending a number of events locally. Even at places where smoking is prohibited indoors, smokers congregate next to the entrance, and often smoke is blown inside whenever the door is opened. I don't like having to walk through a cloud of smoke before I go inside any building.
I was a heavy smoker for 35 years, and I decided several years ago I don't want to be around smoke or smokers any more. Certainly I don't want to be exposed to smoke when I'm trying to enjoy myself. Having smokers stand outside isn't enough, they have to be away from, and downwind of, the entrance.

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/28/2008 9:12:48 AM | Very good idea. How about having it at Jillians downtown and having a section for non smokers and another should smokers come. Its big, well ventilatted with a variety of hings to do. | |
|
| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/28/2008 11:50:06 AM | | to me having a section for non smokers and a section for smokers isn't having a non smoking party... | |

to me having a section for non smokers and a section for smokers isn't having a non smoking party... It isn't...per se.....however, as I understand the rules of making public announcements (threads)about parties on POF, they cannot be outright descriminatory or exclusive in that way.

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/28/2008 7:01:10 PM | | Maybe we need to change the title of the thread to: Smoke Free Venue POF Party. Anyone can come but we follow the rules of the town or establishment and NO Smoking is allowed by their rules, not the party host. Is this concept really that difficult for some to understand? Or are they just being difficult? | |
|
| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/29/2008 6:50:02 AM | | we weren't shutting the smokers out, they can just go outside and smoke so we could have a smoke free room, that was talked about and thought understood...! | |
|
| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/29/2008 8:50:01 AM | Another idea would be to have an outdoor event, like at a park, where the smoke wouldn't be such an issue. Any other ideas or suggestions? Bingo, my suggestion was another idea. FUN place, great ventilation(almost as much as a park, but better), lots of space, wide variety of things to do and free admission.
Maybe we need to change the title of the thread to: Smoke Free Venue POF Party.... Is this concept really that difficult for some to understand? 1st perhaps it is the OP that should make that determination. 2nd apparently you didnt "understand it yourself" since you DID make a suggestion of a PARK on THIS thread. Further, try to "understand" that many people who may like the idea and title of this thread will respond without reading EVERY post on this thread. Some will read the OP's post and respond. Many people do not have the time nor interest to read each and every post.
dah, reallt HUH??? Silly, petty, negative(dare I say grossly misspelled) post do not help ease any concerns of a divisive element within the concept of the thread. If we find it difficult to play/post NICE...why not play/post intelligently?

|
| Non-smoking Party Posted: 5/29/2008 10:04:17 AM | | no more silly then your post...as you point out things like a typoyou know hitting the wrong key....talk about petty and if you read the other post you wouldn't have needed to say we were leaving out the smokers...and if you were my daddy maybe then you could tell how or what to post. | |

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 6/17/2008 8:06:05 PM | tonyn1: Thanks for starting this thread. I'm also a non-smoker and would like to see more non-smoking POF events. Several months ago I went to Blue Crew (at E. 96th & Masters Rd. near the Menards/Sam's Club strip mall), which is a non-smoking venue, to see about hosting a POF party there. Unfortunately they require a deposit, which is against POF rules.
Does anyone know of any other non-smoking venues?
I have sinus & eye allergies. I do occasionally go to bars that allow smoking but if it gets bad I have to leave. And I don't like the lingering aroma of smoke in my clothes!

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 6/22/2008 3:26:24 PM | | This thread seems to have died faster than a smoker with lung cancer! I guess there aren't enough non-smoking POF'ers to have a non-smoking event! | |
|
| Non-smoking Party Posted: 7/3/2008 1:03:46 PM | I would definitely be interested in a non-smoking event. I know some see it as prejudicial, but I don't date smokers, and I don't go where there's smoking, if I can help it.
I even had a social group a few years ago that was for non-smokers only. I know this is an old thread and probably no one has any interest in it anymore, but I'm new, so this is my first time seeing it.

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 7/28/2008 6:05:29 AM | | I attended one Bentleys party . Way too much smoke and I thought the bar itself was soo small I couldnt find a place to stand let alone a chair to sit in . Wish they could pick a larger building. Plus I didnt find most of the people there very outgoing or friendly | |

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 11/6/2008 12:46:57 PM | As someone who has been on both sides may I comment? An event doesn't have to be non-smoking if the smokers can smoke outside, so how about smoking with some guidelines?
I am a former smoker and lung cancer survivor so I get the story, OK? Passive smoke can be as hazardous as smoking; smoking is an addiction; smokers aren't bad people. So an outing with some guidelines and respectful boundaries for all sounds good to me. I don't care if someone smells like smoke as long as I'm not breathing it....:)

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 12/8/2008 8:47:33 AM | Non-smoking is the way to go for non-smokers; there is no reasonable argument against it. Smokers do not understand how offensive it is for nonsmokers to even be NEAR a smoker, as the smell of dirty ashtrays is NOT what attracts us to social events, nor to persons we may be interested in for personal relationships.
You may call it prejudice, or you may call it preference. Either way, it is each person's right to choose where they would like to potentially meet others. POF is a venue for social interaction, and if people choose to appeal to a specific group, wherein lies the harm? If you are a smoker, and you would like to attend, then keep your deadly habits to yourself and go. Just don't be offended by someone when they ask what that smell is and where it is coming from!
I fight for my freedoms in this country. I proudly express here my opinion that choice is good for everyone, even non-smokers.
So, Tony, when and where???

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 12/8/2008 5:55:21 PM | I am smoke free for almost 7 yrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not put smokers down...I do however not enjoy coming home smelling like I've been on fire..BUT..almost all my friends smoke and I accept that..as I did it myself once upon a time. I think the size of the establishment has alot to do with the amount of smoke one has to contend with. Was at a very small bar at POF event and I couldn't take it..but then again I have been in bigger places and it wasn't so bad.
By the way..Illinois doesn't allow smoking in bars :) We have had some great meet n greets in Danville at Ginos..everyone had a great time..without smoking..they just went outside..which they did not seem to mind..right Leota? :)
Old thread but I don't do the forums much. This one just caught my eye. I say stop the mud slinging and realize that if everyone liked the same things..or was interested in the same kinds of people..this would be a very boring world to live in. We'd only have one ball team..one everything..no choices...CHOICE????????? omg..isn't this what America is all about..freedom of choice..compromise...it cant' be that hard once everyone stops fighting each other about this. Pick a non smoking establishment..with an outside place or special place for people that want to exercise their right to smoke. And..if they want to pay that much money for them...let them, its not coming out of my pocket.

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 2/17/2009 3:56:40 PM | | Why don't they segregate all these parties? It would be easier on everyone involved. Just as non-smokers don't want to date smokers - smokers tend not to want to date non-smokers! I guess it makes me shockingly aware of just how much I smoke when "involved" with a non-smoker. Besides I have never successfully dated a non-smoker regardless of n/s's saying they don't mind it ... ultimately they do. If I stopped smoking I'd not want to date a smoker or be exposed to a roomful of smokers either; I admit, even being a smoker - cigarette smoke stinks! However, until I do stop smoking it would be easier to spot a potential partner if they segregated their parties. | |

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 2/17/2009 4:38:28 PM | | The March 7th party coming up is in a venue with 2 bars - one smoking and one non-smoking. Those of you wanting a non-smoking party, should check it out. | |
|
| Non-smoking Party Posted: 2/18/2009 4:07:50 AM | | Yes I am a smoker.I respect people that do not smoke. Here is the deal...I dont want to be around a bunch of alcohol.I dont drink at all...dont like to talk to people that drink..Alcohol breath.....To cut the matter short...I dont go at all. | |

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 2/18/2009 12:42:01 PM | I am a reformed smoker, Oct 1990 was the last time. I went to the V-Day Party and had fun for a short time but had to leave because of the smoke. Did not get the chance to talk to the one that really caught my eye. Oh well such is life.I think everyone has a valid point, and there should be a solution. The party they are going to have the 7th of March is great 2 bars one smoking one non. I respect everyones right to smoke or not, so please do not berate anyone for their opinion. After all you have yours as well.

| Non-smoking Party Posted: 2/20/2009 4:46:50 PM | No clever...
I think it's against the POF site rules to discriminate about who is and who is not invited to the party's. Like someone said earlier in the thread, pick an appropriate venue and let the venue rules determine who attends.
Imnotgoing has found a very workable solution with the Loop (POF party March 7th). I'm hopeful that being asthmatic and allergic to smoke, this location will be a winner for POF!
I'm looking forward to March 7th!
