Do people really spend hundreds on a date?

I've learned the hard way never spend over $100 on the first date, even if you think after talking on the phone and through emails that you have met your perfect match.

Oh ya, what is it with girls who order the most expensive items on the menu when you offer to pay?

I've had girls specifically order the cheapest thing on the menu when you're paying. Quite a few. I dated one girl where we went out to eat at a fancy Italian restaurant with her parents. Her parents were paying.

I felt like a jerk when we got the bill and my meal was twice as much as anyone else's! To this day it still bugs me that I didn't look at the prices and consider the prices.

merry, It all depends on what you consider to be a date. I've met w/ a woman from Pof, who's spent plenty in addition to my contributions for our seven dates all told so far. That these have lasted for almost a week-at-a-time w/ one lasting over two weeks, romancing can be expensive ...as in the thousands, but is so worth the investment when feelings run deep and are mutual for desired results. The ever-escalating gas prices are encouraging our closing the distance. We play games w/ one another and pretend. Oh, my!

i've heard the same. for me, $20 total is a limit and to those who would say that's cheap I can say I do not associate money with happiness even if others find that's the only or primary way they obtain it. I find better uses for money. men who waste so much help to create a messed up dating arena by giving women another way to measure men, and one in which has little to do with being a good partner.

spending $100 on a single dinner is extremely wasteful as that could pay for an entire month's worth of food. don't bother asking me via this forum how $100 can EASILY pay for a month's worth of food - it's so simple that it shouldn't even have to be explained. if women who are concerned about the environment and then find no problem in them spending (or having a guy spend) so much on a dinner then I'd have to question their thinking process as there is a shared commonality involving conserving/management/higher good. And I'll never find a bottle of wine truly worth more than $20 worth of enjoyment...again, others can attribute non-essential things money can be used for in seeking enjoyment.

if spending so much makes a person feel good as their ego becomes satisifed from being able to say they've experienced something extravagant, then that's your problem.

some people have too much money or use too much credit to afford a spoiled lifestyle.

I'll have a good share of people who'll reject my statements, but if we have a 4-yr long "mild" DEPRESSION, some will wake up.

the words "fine", "up-scale" and other related terminology regarding restaurants help to fuel a sensation that it's a wonderful experience to frequent restaurants with overpriced food.

My record for a first date was upwards of UKĀ£2000...but that did involve my flying to the US, and putting myself up in a hotel for a couple of weeks!

Sadly, we didn't hit if off quite so well in person as we had done online and over the phone, but I had an enjoyable vacation (and someone to spend time with) whilst I was over there, and we're still friends 8 years on.
