| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 3:54:27 PM | It seems many people have questions about the new feature that has been implemented. Being involved in the social media world on sites such as Mixx.com for example, I know that the community can make or break a site. So I'll take this opportunity to explain things in the best and simplest way possible to help the people behind POF. Screen shots will be provided so you can follow along.
Disclaimer: If my screen shot looks different then your's it's because I'm running Windows Vista. Don't worry if your running Windows XP everything is exactly the same.
Step 1. Click on the link "Add Music to Profile" on your main page.
http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot1el7.png
This is where you will copy the code from imeem.
Step 3. Go to http://www.imeem.com and search for an artist, song, video of your choosing or create an account. Please note that if you are trying to upload a song you purchased through iTunes it will not work as it is has DRM (Digital Rights Management) Protection.
Step 4. Once you have found the artist/song or video of you're choosing. Copy the embed code from the "Embed Box". The coding is located on the page as shown below.
http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot2ep5.png
Step 5. Paste the code into the input box from Step 2 as shown below and click "Save Music".

Thats all there is to it! If your music doesn't play the whole song then I'm not quite sure to tell you. Thats something the people behind imeem most likely set up or the user themselves did. But it's important to remember as I mentioned before that songs purchased through iTunes will not work or upload to imeem. However if you purchased songs through AmazonMP3 they will as they are MP3 files and are not restricted by DRM. Happy Listening!
Note to Admin: You should consider using BBCODE for the forum. It's much safer then the limited amount of HTML you are allowing, plus it allows users to actually use active links instead of relying on copying and paste.

| You can re-stream/encode Audio with dbPowerAmp to remove DRM ... |

This may be true but unfortunately dbPowerAmp now requires a payment to use the MP3 format. I tried installing it a month ago and it wouldn't let me use it with out paying for it.
Oh and I didn't see the other post before my apologies. Best to have something towards the end in case people skip the first few pages or something.

| Use the "Lame" Codec, not the Fraunhofer/Thomson one. It will always be free, and dbPowerAmp is just a Frontend. |

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 4:20:18 PM | @ 110 & 111 Your songs won't play because there is NO autoplay feature (Thank God... or should I say Thank BigFish?).
Sheeesh... it's all explained on page 1.... and your songs play fine, once they are started.

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 4:23:28 PM | Oh how I wish my neighbors had a 14 year old kid I could rent for a few minutes. I read the links you provided Ticket but am still in a fog. I was able to get a song on my profile but here are some specifics. It plays full length when I view my profile through a forum link, not logged into the profile server. Yet someone I recently talked to through POF mail told me it only played in 30 second segments. I do have that song on my hard drive from the original CD by the way. Is that why it plays full length for me and not others? Miss Allison said earlier in this thread,
By searching for the song, instead of uploading your own copy of it, you're relying that whoever uploaded the media will leave it on Imeem. Problem is, if and when they delete the media file, your link wont work anymore. If you upload your own copy you don't have to worry about it disappearing. Does this mean I can load the, my, entire CD onto Imeen and have it show as a total play list on my profile?

We are still in the Stages of finding out how it works. I suspect 'Imeem' is making some funky changes too, we are just not sure what they are. Possibly they have Server Issues we don't know about.

Yesterday I managed to push up a couple of WAV Files, but blocked me subsequently, as they only want MP3. Rip your CD to 320 Kbit MP3 at the highest Quality Bit Settings (No VBR, CBR as they re-compress/encode them), then upload to your 'Imeem' Profile, make a Playlist, move your uploaded Songs over ... and Voila ... they show up on your Profile, no need to change the 'Embedded Code' in your Profile every Time you edit your Playlist over there. |

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 5:13:18 PM | Knew i wouldnt get anymore answers lol When a song plays 4 seconds one time and almost 2 minutes another time...its not me. Its just not lol And i dont think the person here trying to help has the answers as to why it does that but to tell me to read 5 pages of useless info to me, again. First of all, this site is run by volunteers. They don't live here and as a result you're not always gonna get the instant gratification you think you deserve/need.
Secondly, when you come out swinging punches it makes those that could help, not want to. Personally I don't think publicly mouthing off to mods in the forums is going to aid you. Ditto with emailing users private nasty messages. Perhaps exercising some manners and patience might be prudent.

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 5:33:20 PM | I uploaded songs from my drives and they play in full on the list with no problems., I've also noticed that there's even a small cut on 30 sec punk songs, yeah you would think those type of songs would fly stealth under the 30 sec copyright radar..forget this, I'm gonna upload all my saved music instead
you've created a monster, I build playlists like a dealer makes crack and this Imeem project has me hooked on phonics

Such a good point miss_allison.. I felt like helping him for a minute (just a minute) but with my past experiences catering to other troubled people out there on the INet, it can be very frustrating when the end-user has little to no patience what so ever or gratitude for that matter.

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 6:03:57 PM | I uploaded songs from my drives and they play in full on the list with no problems. Unless I am badly mistaken, it seems for up to an Hour after Audio File Upload the Song will Play in full, as that is the maximum allocated Time for upload of any given Audio File. The Time Frame may even be less than that. Anything I have uploaded as little as 15 Minutes ago plays in full, even after having logged out of 'Imeem'.

| Ultimately, you'll probably be flashing some Plastic for "Songs" you just can't do without any longer, or give BitTorrent/Usenet some increased Traffic ... sort of like a Woman you can't do without. You'll stop dating, delete your Profile and become a Die-Hard Audiophile ... |

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 6:18:39 PM | Thanks for trying Ticket, still no go on my end. Maybe if Pandy does visit Paper Towel Dog she'll come down and help me out? I had already created a profile on Imeen, not much of one, but at least one that allowed me to access their site with my password.
I can easily get to the 'upload' music part but all I get after that are error messages. Also, in regards to you suggesting ripping my CD at 320 kbits? I deleted my old CD file and when ripping it again was only given a choice of like half that.
I have tried adding this CD to my Imeen profile through both my CD drive and hard drive. Would the fact that this CD is copyrighted keep it from being uploaded? If that was the case, how was that one song, which is on my profile, able to have been placed there?
Thanks for the help you've provided so far, it's all greatly appreciated, at least by most.

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 6:20:26 PM | | Woohoo this is totally cool ! Love the idea, uploaded songs easy peasy and they all work perfectly. Imeem has a pretty good range of music on there so everyone should be happy ! | |

| Plentyoffish Music. Posted: 4/17/2008 6:38:48 PM | I deleted my old CD file and when ripping it again was only given a choice of like half that. Just for your Information, CDA is not a File, but Specification of the "Red Book" Standard for 'Streaming Audio', although they can be made to be Shortcuts on your Desktop, etc.
I can easily get to the 'upload' music part but all I get after that are error messages. Usually something wrong with the File, probably the Format you are uploading, kinda like People Image Uploading PDF or DOC for POF Profile Pics.
You rip a CD uncompressed to WAV, or compressed to other Formats, and in the Case of 'Imeem' for Upload, to MP3 to your Hard Drive. If you rip to WAV, then you need to encode to MP3 before uploading.
I have tried adding this CD to my Imeen profile through both my CD drive and hard drive. You cannot upload CDA from your Optical unit, and only MP3s from your Hard Drive.
Would the fact that this CD is copyrighted keep it from being uploaded?
| Copyright Issues exist ripping from CD to WAV or MP3, and yet another possible Type from Imeem. But they are 2 entirely different Stages, nothing to do with each other. Cheers. |

No Time right now to make a Picture HTML Tutorial this Weekend. But will make one next Week. Foolproof. No hurry, for me anyway, only thank you's from this end. I can still listen to my music anytime I desire. I can only imagine the problems this new feature has placed onto your already full plates.

But it turned out to be a Dud ... R.I.P. ...
| I would prefer not having this Thread go 35 Pages of the same 5 Questions over and over again, as it becomes useless for future | Oversight. Not many Users will bore themselves out of their Skulls reading that many Pages, and the Answers get lost from Overview. So before the next Lot comes in here, there will be sufficient Data to resolve all their Issues by Page 5 ... and even that is too long, hence the 2 Links I keep posting. |
