| Men and cooking Posted: 5/2/2008 7:31:05 AM | Too often I have found that my male associates and friends who have complained the most about the time it takes them to prepare a nice meal for themselves, let alone a lady friend - are the same guys who were looking for an easy out in so may other areas as well.
Like ExplosiveSheep said about the complaint against a guy taking time to cook for a lady, the same can be said about a man taking time to care for himself as well - and no woman wants to be courted by a man who just doesn't care for himself or others.
I cook lavish invloved meals for my lady friends and never found it easy to do on a meager budget - having the time and money to spend of quality produce and to be able to afford the time to show up and perform... these have always been made easier by my successful streams of income.
I guess for some, anything is better than putting yourself out there and trying.
By the way - check the treats I have in store for tonight's mystery lady:
BREAST OF CHICKEN FLAMBÉ WITH BRANDIED CHERRY SAUCE FOR TWO This delicious and romantic meal should quickly warm your mood for the evening!
2 8ounce chicken breasts with bone and skin 1 ounce melted butter 1 teaspoon paprika 1 ounce brandy 1 pinch salt and white pepper to taste
Bing Cherry sauce 1 8 ounce can black bing cherries 2 tablespoons Burgundy wine 2 tablespoon sugar 1Ž2 teaspoon cornstarch 1 pinch salt
Preparing Bing Cherry Sauce: Drain juice from cherries. Combine juice with wine, sugar, cornstarch, and salt; mix thoroughly. Bring mixture to a boil until sauce thickens. Add the drained cherries.
Season chicken breast with salt, white pepper, paprika, and brush with butter. Bake for 30 minutes at 325°F or until cooked and tender. Place chicken in a medium size ovenproof serving dish and cover with sauce. Have table set, candles lit, all accompaniments on table, and turn off lights when ready to flambé.
How to flambé: Pour 1/4 ounce of brandy over dish and place in middle of table. Using long wooden matches, ignite chicken breast. When flame goes out and liquor has burned off, you are ready to serve.
POACHED PEACHES IN CHAMPAGNE Fresh peaches poached in champagne need to be tasted to be really appreciated. 2 large ripe peaches, preferably white 2 cups dry champagne 1/2 cup maple syrup 1/2 small vanilla bean 3 large strawberries 2 tablespoons powdered sugar 1/4 medium lemon, squeezed for juice 1 cup Romance Whipped Cream, see recipe 2 large mint leaves for garnish
Make a very light incision all around peach skins. Plunge the peaches briefly into boiling water, then into cold water, and peel. Place in a shallow pan and douse with champagne. Add the syrup and vanilla bean. Bring to a slow boil over low heat, and poach peaches at about 185°F, but do not allow to boil. If peaches are very ripe, they will be poached after 5 minutes.
Place peaches and syrup in a cool place, but do not refrigerate. Drain peaches, reserving the poaching liquid. Wash strawberries, remove any leaves, and purée in a blender or food processor. Place in a bowl and stir sugar into the purée. Stir romance whipped cream into the strawberry purée and add lemon juice.
Serve on round plates, or in glass dishes or small bowls. Line the bottom of the dishes with strawberry cream and arrange the cooled, but not chilled, peaches on top. Garnish each peach with a mint sprig. Serve the chilled poaching liquid separately in a sauce boat...

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/2/2008 10:02:28 AM | I love a man that can cook like you. Where's the dessert?
To cook in my kitchen there is 1 rule! He can only wear an apron with his hot little buns hanging out.

Tsk, tsk, tsk... in addition to the apron I find that other utensils are useful - and I agree that buns are best served warm.
My, my, I do believe we have a date!
Oh and the poached peach was the desert, but before the desrt I always enjoy an aperatif (The word is derived from the Latin verb "aperire", which means to open.)... must keep the palate clean.
You'll find I am the hardest working and most creative chef you've met. Because of my love of the art, I am able to spend hours at it.
And all just to see that satisfied smile once the feast is over.

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/6/2008 10:44:17 AM | It wouldn't be a deal breaker if a guy didn't cook, but oh how wonderful when he CAN and is EXTREMELY GOOD at it....not to mention cleans up. I've recently experienced this for the first time and believe me, things can get smoking....and I don't mean the stove.
He is able to prep, dance with me a little; cook, dance with and kiss me a little; put it on the plates, dance with and kiss me a little more; and get everything to the table steaming....including me!!! Yep, not a deal breaker, but definitely a bonus!!!

I would have to agree with post #2.
But it depends on the personality you are. If a guy has enough time to cook a fancy meal and spend all that time adding spices and fancy things, he has too much spare time on his hands and needs to get a job.
But that's me and I'm much younger and I'm sure older women appreciate it :D
You do realize that being a cheff, or gifted in the culinary arts, is a very lucrutive(sp) career pathway?

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/9/2008 7:47:19 AM | The question was, do I believe that food can be an aphrodisiac (sexual stimulant) - and here are my thoughts on the matter from direct first hand experiance...
Evidently avocado, ginger and honey are all part of a group of aphrodisiacs that are related to arousing sexual behavior.
SALAD INGREDIENTS 3 cups variety of greens 1 avocado, sliced into thin slices 1 green onion, thinly sliced
1 tbsp ginger, freshly grated 1 tbsp honey 1 tbsp seasoned rice vinegar 1 tsp Soya sauce light freshly ground black pepper
Wash and gently dry greens and place in a large bowl. Add avocado slices and green onion.
In a small jar add ginger, honey, rice vinegar, Soya sauce and freshly ground black pepper. Shake well so all the ingredients become emulsified.
Serve salad, add dressing and very gently toss everything together. I use my hands to toss this salad because avocado when ripe can be fragile.
OYSTER ENTRE 12 medium oysters, your choice of variety 1/2 cup apple cider 3 tablespoons finely chopped tart apple 2 tablespoons finely chopped red pepper 1 whole shallot, finely chopped 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley 1 tablespoon cider vinegar Coarsely ground black pepper
1. Clean the oysters. Combine oysters and apple cider in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Steam oysters, covered, over moderately high heat until they just open, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a plate after oysters have opened, reserve steaming liquid, and discard any unopened oysters. Chill oysters until cool, about 30 minutes.
2. While oysters are chilling, pour oyster steaming liquid through a paper towel-lined sieve into a bowl to remove any grit. Stir 2 tablespoons strained liquid together with remaining ingredients and salt to taste. Discard remaining strained liquid.
3. Remove flat half of oyster shell and loosen oyster with a sharp knife. Put oysters in rounded half of shell. Arrange on plates and spoon sauce over oysters.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
INGREDIENTS 16 ounces milk chocolate chips 2 tablespoons shortening 1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves
DIRECTIONS Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Holding them by the toothpicks, dip the strawberries into the chocolate mixture.
Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into styrofoam for the chocolate to cool.

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/14/2008 7:49:51 AM | i've found that when i cook for women who can't cook, they'll be so lazy as to not even clean up afterwards. i don't mind cleaning, but it's their attitudes that i can't understand.
when a woman likes to cook, a guy shouldn't even try else she'd find it hurts her notion of being a woman. best to not do anything at all unless she requests you do the barebqueing as if it's suppose to be a male thing or maybe because she isn't skilled in lighting fires and doesn't want to look dumb as a result.
|
| Men and cooking Posted: 5/14/2008 9:08:06 AM | | Why can't a man and a woman cook together? The kitchen can be a stimulating and "spicy" room. What with all the taste testing, feeding each other little tidbits, and wearing nothing but an apron. Come on, where's your imagination? | |

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/14/2008 4:11:43 PM | A man that can cook has an asset A man that can dance has an asset. If he can ballroom dance it is even more of an asset. If he can be tidy and a neat freak it is an asset. If he dresses well it is an asset. Men have lots of assets in lots of different ways. If I came home to a wonderful meal I think I would be in heaven. If he took me out dancing after dinner in his tux------- paradise. | |

I am pleased to find you feel that way.
Ironically I just came back from a national shin-dig in Cape Canaveral where the men were required to dress in tuxedo's. I own mine.

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/15/2008 3:34:45 PM | | I love to cook for someone who is gonna share it with me, alone though, Id rather not. However I am a pretty good cook so a woman that can cook is not a big deal unless she likes to as well, then we can share some wine and cook together, just my Opine | |
|
| Men and cooking Posted: 5/15/2008 3:49:37 PM | It's nice because it helps to share a very important task in family life.
Personally, apart from helpful and handy, I find it incredibly sexy.

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/16/2008 10:41:30 PM | | Doesn't bother me at all, I mean it'd be nice if he could do something lol. I like to cook and bake in general and test out new food on people. But on the flip side I won't eat everybody's food, so I can be a bit skeptical cause some people don't season enough or use TOO MUCH! :gah: So it's not a life changing decision if he can't cook. | |
|
| Men and cooking Posted: 5/19/2008 2:27:24 PM | I don't know - but I get the feeling that cooking a fine meal, seeing to it's proper presentation - and rapidly attending to the clean up is labelled women's work.
You'll even find where people have posted here tha a guy who presents as well as I do needs get a job.
Are we really that narrow minded?
The obvious answer-even if only for purely academic purposes is women like it when a man cooks.
And as the case with me - they love it when you can do it well.

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/19/2008 2:30:31 PM | I've tried cooking for myself. most of the time i just burn the food.

| Men and cooking Posted: 5/19/2008 3:58:30 PM | I love to cook and its more for enjoyment then for the person if I had a gf and I knew she was coming over i'd cook for her just for fun or let her cook with me. I've been cookin since I was 7 i've worked in many resturants some of my favorites to work at was steve and rocky's which was a 4 star resturant worked there for two years or so and morels which was dealt in catoring which was really fun to do. But I decided cooking isn't for me as a profession but still for friends and at home and loved ones i'll cook to my hearts content ^_^. Just haven't found that one special woman to cook for :P.
And if I did just cause I found it funny to think it right now cause of what the site were on is called I think i'd make a nice light dinner of fish and steamed broccoli. The fish would be fried on the stove top with a little of butter, however before setting your fish in the butter to cook put lightly on the fish a bit of lemon, garlic, salt and pepper, basil and a pinch of cyan pepper for a bit of a kick. Lightly brown the fish.
The starter would be stuffed mushrooms, simply a mushroom without the core in it you take minced crab a bit of cream cheese with salt pepper and a bit of pepperica (sp) mix it together and put it in the mushrooms on top you will put breadcrumbs put it in the oven until the breadcrumbs are lightly browned belive me they are amazing!
hmmm what would I do for desert lets seeeee. I think i'd go simple and make a banana cream pie with home made crust of course nothin store bought in any of my meals I make that are going to be special like that. And of course i'd buy some wine for the meal or if she would rather have something like a fruit smoothie i'd make her one of those instead.
Sorry just felt like writing up a meal plan lol.

Luke, you have tried cooking for yourself and burned the food most of the time? Don't be so hard on yourself - a lot of guys have the problem and it happens to the best of them. I think the trick is - don't be so hurried, and take your time with it.
It is pretty common for a guy, especially one who is just starting out, to hurry the job wanting nothing more than to feed his lady and expedite the satisfaction. Then, rather than mutual satisfaction the dish gets ruined and one of both parties walk away from the meal unfulfilled.
Luke, out of curiosity - do you think you will ever make a point of your "cooking" skills in order to please your lady friends (and yourself) more fully? If not, what makes you think you will EVER find a lady who will want to feed you?

Sounds like you and Luke should get together and practice some… cooking techniques together.
Actually, applied chemistry defines the science of it but as DREAMBOAT333 states:
I believe that food can be an aphrodisiac (sexual stimulant) - and here are my thoughts on the matter from direct first hand experience...
…it is a better tool for dating if one treats it as an ART.
