| European Coffee Posted: 6/14/2008 8:25:30 PM | THE SECRET IS THE WATER, MY COFFEE WAS EXCELLENT UNTIL THEY DECIDED THAT WE NEEDED CITY WATER, SO I HAD TO GIVE UP MY WELL WATER. MY WATER NOW HAS CHLORINE AND OTHER THINGS IN IT.

good coffee depends on the coffee you use, how you prepare! it and I always use bottle water, most I use roasted Columbian or Java nr 4 and always keep the coffee in the fridge keep it from losing his taste.

I always use bottle water, most I use roasted Columbian or Java nr 4 and always keep the coffee in the fridge keep it from losing his taste. Keeping it in the fridge really never made a difference for me, in fact I found it was a deterent becase the brew did not come out the same because the hot water was hitting cold grinds that were less willing to release their oils. Keeping it in an airtight container and not grinding the beans until you're ready to use them is the secret to keeping it fresh.

| European Coffee Posted: 7/5/2008 2:33:43 PM | Well, So far no one has really explained exactly what coffee the OP was drinking and how it's made?
Montreal_Guy dangit! You made me read that page about Vietnamese coffee, and now I got two of them Vietnamese coffee filters coming from fleabay!
Me being a longtime fan of cajun (chicory) coffee, I never knew Vietnamese coffee was traditionally made with chicory, so yeah I'll be anxious to try some!
I have also had canned Vietnamese coffee I got in an asian grocery store here, it was quite good and whew it'll have the hair on your head standing up! Talk about a rush?
I started shopping fleabay coffee sellers and found a couple that warrant mention, starbucks has absolutely NOTHING on the yellow cherry arabiga I get from El Salvador. This stuff is some of the BEST COFFEE that I have ever had!

That's the GOOD stuff there, and with free shipping, this is true gourmet coffee at an unbeatably affordable price! Try $9/lb if you get 10lbs.
Make sure you specifically ask for dark roast, be prepared for delivery of a box that I am certain smelled up the UPS truck, I could smell coffee when I opened my front door to pick up the box and bring it in the house. If I was that UPS driver, it would have driven me NUTS smelling that coffee while driving!

| European Coffee Posted: 7/5/2008 3:42:47 PM | I finally got myself a French press, and I grind the beans every day. Much better! I'll try good water next time. But so far my tastebuds are rejoicing.
I used to put gobs of sugar and half and half in my coffee. I stopped using the cream, because if I run out I cannot stand milk in the coffee. So I started having it black, and now the coffee is so good without the cream, and with fresh coffee, its still delicious without the sugar. Plus, I feel so much better kicking that sugar habit!

| European Coffee Posted: 7/5/2008 4:03:35 PM | i have travelled all over europe and am currently living in spain so know exactly what you mean and believe me the coffee is NOTHING like starbucks which tastes awful in comparison or any that ive tased in america or england. the water has nothing to do with it, its just normal water [my spanish friend owns a resturant and tap water is all she uses] yes, the coffee beans are different as you say, very smooth tasting and rich and the machine exactly as you describe, its pressurized and each coffee is made to order, the most they can make is two at a time. you describe it all perfectly and unless you have drank european coffee, no one will have a clue what you mean because its absolutely different to anything else and so much better! the foamy creamy stuff is made from condensed milk which is whipped to order and poured on immediately, never reused. the very small doll type cups are for expresso coffee which has 2 shots of the coffee beans instead of the normal one and is not meant to be drank with milk, just black. the coffee is never put in a mug with different sizes, just a round cup about half the size of a small starbucks. no one drinks out of mugs. spanish and italian coffee is the same and the people meet every day for a coffee and chat for several hours, thats the norm...i know because i meet all my spanish friends every morning.....the coffee is a work of art and not meant to be rushed. irena/ | |
