A local town just passed an ordinance that there is no smoking allowed in bars, why? "because they knew they could get the "DEMOCRATIC" votes of the 50.1% nonsmokers to rear up against the 49.9%.

Mob rule.


No.

Corporate rule.

When one industry could no longer benefit, another stepped in to take it's place. Big pharma took over from the cigarette companies, and started backing "grassroots" organizations to ban smoking - thus reaping a fortune in selling yet another set of drugs to an addicted nation. Look at how much cash those "stop smoking aids" make for them, and do some research on their "behind the scenes" work.

On the Serengeti Plains of capitalism, there's never a shortage of lions.

Both Mankiewicz and speechwriter Adam Walinsky drafted notes immediately before the rally for Kennedy's use, but Kennedy refused Walinsky's notes, instead using some that he had likely written on the ride over; Mankiewicz arrived after Kennedy had already begun to speak. Right before arriving at the rally the Chief of Police in Indianapolis told Kennedy that he could not provide protection and that giving the remarks would be too dangerous, but Kennedy decided to go ahead regardless. Standing on a podium mounted on flatbed truck, Kennedy spoke for just four minutes and fifty-seven seconds.

That's one of the most masterful pieces of American rhetoric ever done. Essentially speaking from his heart, on the back of a truck. and aware the police could not protect him - he stood alone to tell a crowd of overwhelmingly African-Americas the worse news possible.

That ranks up there with the Gettysburg Address, for me, in terms of it's vision and brevity.

They'd come to hear him speak....and had no idea yet.

That night, when fires raged across America, Indianapolis was peaceful.

the kennedy's certainly were well groomed androids with excellent people writing their words for them. as for powerful and visionary speeches, I submit for your approval.


No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the House. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen, if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve.

This is no time for ceremony. The question before the House is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty towards the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.

Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. We have held the subject up in every light of which it is capable; but it has been all in vain. Shall we resort to entreaty and humble supplication? What terms shall we find which have not been already exhausted? Let us not, I beseech you, sir, deceive ourselves longer.

Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have implored its interposition to arrest the tyrannical hands of the ministry and Parliament.

Robert Kennedy was an outstanding American .The kinda of American that you want to see and look for but never can. The Kennedys were the best of America although what went before was not too bad . But that was the golden peak of Americana at its zenith .

Steady slide into cowboy operaters ever since .

I know we all have opinions but the Kennedys are extremely well recieved in the world and America broke the mould after them . When his brother was brought back from Dallas...........that family showed amazing courage in adversity in full glare of the world and at great risk to their person.

My father pointed out the natural and great compassion of Robert Kennedy and I see it. Its really touching how he clambers aboard Air Force 1 to be near his brother's body as he arrived back in Washington. He was also the instrument of enforcing the de-segragation process .

I don't think America realises what totally awesome men these were................it just shows the slide into slime is complete but I truly hope not .

Inside those 2 years they showed America at its finest .....................

Just think of RFK's last words, after he had been shot. One minute, he's standing there in victory at the podium in front of a cheering crowd of people that love him , and then out of nowhere.... a gunman yells " Kennedy, you son of a ****..."

He's shot multiple times, and collapses to the floor.

His last words ?

"Is everybody all right?"

Mortally wounded, and yet he still showed his concern for others.

Had he been elected, we might not even recognize the world today. That question, "what if" , was asked to people who knew him when PBS did a program on him.

Thing with Robert Kennedy is that he was tough and compassionate at the same time.
Very passionate in all he did and extremely young when taking on the toughest jobs any politician could.He was a president in waiting .All through the Cuban crisis,civil rights and union hearings he was in his 30's and confronting the meanest jobs and the most cunning and ruthless people. At his brothers side when staring down the abyss and making the right decisions and coming up trumps without a shot being fired . So where Carter was a compassionate man and a good one.....he could be bullied where RFK couldn't .Kennedy had passion and courage .

It maybe shows how idealistics these two were in that they were both eleminated .They confronted injustice . Now its a case of...........elect me so that I can be famous for my 4 years in the WH and reap millions for selling my story later . .

Its a measure of the men and their idealism in that although they were of a Ivy League background .....they reached out to the common man and downtrodden . We get rubbish politicians as well..lol......just like America but America has the edge on us in that ours are more of the middle road....none too disgusting and none too great apart from Churchill...................you have the Kennedys who can surpass anybody you can name ................and then nothing but slimeballs afterwards . So the contrast is stark and the loss greater. The essence of America was lost on their passing. My father would place them on par with Churchill for their power of speech and leadership qualities and that only on 2 years to judge by .

These 3 today think that answering a question in a smart alec fashion is a winner or they pout in being asked too difficult a question.....yet the likes of Robert Kennedy was making tremendous decisions with JFK on winning the war of nerves ,minds ,hearts and the Cuban Crisis against the Russians and I believe he was then something like 36 .

Anyway....its good to know that RFK is percieved the same way as he is over here and good to see the links posted .
