Well I certainly hope that doesn't happen, but of course we all know he's at risk, maybe even a little moreso than the other candidates. I can't even put words to the feelings it produces, the thought of it. I remember when Reagan was shot. I was 12, but the same feeling you get from the Reagan assassination attempt, the space shuttle explosion, and 9/11, are not feelings I ever wish to experience again.

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/12/2008 9:58:50 AM | The Democratic "dream ticket" of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will never happen -- thanks to Michelle Obama.
Political columnist Robert Novak reported Sunday that Obama's close supporters are convinced he won't offer the vice presidential slot to Clinton because Michelle Obama "has been sniping at Clinton since last summer."
Novak also says Michelle Obama's "public utterances do not reveal the extent of her hostility."
In my opinion, Michele O. does not conduct herself in a lady like manner. If she becomes the first lady .. it will be the first time I will ever be embarrassed to be an American.
She is so angry, she literally spits out her hostilities. And I bet you a hamburger she wears the pants in that family.

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/12/2008 10:08:14 AM | She turned me off to Obama as soon as I her her comments....
Would not vote for Hillary... When she Said in Aug how can you run the White House when you cannot run your own house...
It would be interesting to watch her in the White House... If you think the Women haters went after Hillary for the past 16 years... Imagine....
She also has a lot of baggage that will be dug up....
Kennedy won't allow Clinton on the Ticket either...

Political columnist Robert Novak reported Sunday that Obama's close supporters are convinced he won't offer the vice presidential slot to Clinton because Michelle Obama "has been sniping at Clinton since last summer." I'm pretty positive that Obama has a whole host of reasons not to offer Hillary a spot on his ticket. I would imagine the primary one being that he would be uncomfortable having a blatant liar as a v.p.
In my opinion, Michele O. does not conduct herself in a lady like manner. If she becomes the first lady .. it will be the first time I will ever be embarrassed to be an American.
As opposed to Hillary Clinton?

uncomfortable having a blatant liar as a v.p.
Dreams From My Father. Obama disclosed in his introduction that he used literary devices to buttress his recollections. He also kept a journal. In August 2004 I wrote a column about Obama's use of literary license in Dreams and concluded: ''Except for public figures and his family, it is impossible to know who is real and who is not. . . .
Glad the Literary license is not Lying............

"He was a bridge-builder," recalled Friends of the Parks president Erma Tranter.
A tour of Obama's far South Side haunts and interviews with past associates paint a somewhat more complex picture.
A few critics claim Obama, now 46, exaggerates his accomplishments, particularly in spearheading asbestos cleanup at a low-income housing project. He omits from his account of that fight a longtime community activist who many people say played a significant role.
And for all his emphasis on the value of grassroots organizing, Obama eventually decided he also needed a law degree to enact lasting change, attending Harvard University. Many associates also view his seven years in the marbled halls of the Illinois State Senate and three years in the U.S. Senate to be as formative as his three years in far South Side trenches.
Further blurring the picture are his descriptions of community organizing in his youthful memoir, "Dreams From My Father," in which he admits he disguises names, creates composite characters, switches some chronologies and uses "approximations" of dialogue.
But what is clear is that Obama got a tough lesson in confronting entrenched political interests - one he relentlessly uses in trying to cast Hillary Rodham Clinton, his rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, as the establishment candidate.
"While I was working on those streets, watching those folks see their jobs shipped overseas, you were a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart," Obama told Clinton in a debate in January. "I was fighting these fights."
Hillary "a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart," ....
Michellle Obama working part time making $52K a year selling pickles to Wal-Mart.......
The Times article quotes Altgeld resident and community activist Hazel Johnson. My colleague, Sun-Times political writer Scott Fornek, interviewed her in 2004 and again on Monday.
Fornek reports that Johnson, 72, objects to Obama taking credit for helping force the CHA to remove asbestos at Altgeld Gardens. Johnson has not read Obama's book. She said he played no role in the asbestos-removal fight. She said he did help get "angel hair," another type of dangerous insulation, removed from attics in the complex's row houses -- and worked on public transportation issues and helped get a library built. ''He was not with us on the asbestos,'' she said.
Maybe he wore the Haz-mat suit??? WWhile he was dodging SNIPERS......

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/12/2008 4:08:04 PM | Yeah, ever since Novak proved to be the only journalist willing to actually commit treason to further the goals of the Republican party, I'm thinking his contacts within Democratic or patriotic circles pretty much dropped him.
You have to look at why he's writing that. Clearly nobody with any knowledge of the Obama campaign would actually talk to him about anything not widely known. So it's a fair guess that he's making it up. It's just the bait and switch the Republicans have been playing at all along: they know they can't run against Obama, so they're trying to muddy as many of those around him as possible. And playing to the fear of a strong woman has always worked since the days of FDR and Eleanor.

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/12/2008 4:20:20 PM | | I don't think Obama can tap Hillary (pun intended) for VP because of his "Change" slogan. Hillary is far from a change. I think the rep. pundits will question his integrity if he folds under pressure and taps her. But...Who cares what I think...right. | |
|
| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/12/2008 5:06:11 PM | BobO,
I see that Hillary supporters have started using the same methods as the high priestess of prevarication herself.
You quote a paragraph from an article to prove a point, yet fail to include the very next paragraph which casts doubt on the point you are trying to make.
http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2007/02/sweet_column_did_obama_take_to.html

She said he did help get "angel hair," another type of dangerous insulation, removed from attics in the complex's row houses -- and worked on public transportation issues and helped get a library built. ''He was not with us on the asbestos,'' she said.
But Johnson told Fornek a different version of the events in 2004 during an interview for a profile on Obama during that year's U.S. Senate race. She said Obama worked on the asbestos removal after the angel hair project. "We worked together." Another colleague, Sun-Times reporter Tim Novak, talked to Cheryl Jackson, her daughter. She said her mother was exploited by Obama when he failed to include her efforts in his book.
"My mother worked too hard and too long of a time. That hurts when someone who has been a sole soldier for so long and continues to be a soldier for environmental issues . . . for someone to exploit the work that she has done is not fair."
Sounds more like a case of sour grapes. Then you try to equate your disingenuously made point with that of Hillary being caught in a bold-faced lie on camera when she "misspoke". This is a move worthy of Hillary herself.
"While I was working on those streets, watching those folks see their jobs shipped overseas, you were a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart," Obama told Clinton in a debate in January. "I was fighting these fights." This is a true statement by Obama.
Michellle Obama working part time making $52K a year selling pickles to Wal-Mart....... So what? Hardly compares to the income Slick Willie was making and has absolutely no bearing on the situation. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/08/bill-clintons-ties-to-col_n_95651.html
In June 2005, Clinton was paid $800,000 by the Colombia-based Gold Service International to give four speeches throughout Latin America. The organization is, ostensibly, a development group tasked with bringing investment to the country and educating world leaders about the Colombia's business opportunities. Yeah Hillary, scrap the free trade deal. It's little wonder that people with little or no education tend to support her.

Yeah Hillary, scrap the free trade deal.
You want to explain Obama NAFDAgate? The Memo? So Cash the Walmart Check until You address a union Meeting?... Michelle resigned the Next day???
So Obama did get the Asbestos removed? What does he have to say about it? It kind of reminds me of Rev Wright.. someone that got used....
Rove said the RNC hits harder than a girl....
It's little wonder that people with little or no education tend to support her.
You need those ignorant voters in the swing states...
It is not going to be a cake walk... Or where do you see those 270 votes coming from??

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/13/2008 8:50:36 AM | Well, here's a good site to use as a base for looking at Obama's chances.
http://www.270towin.com/
It looks at states nationally, and includes the numbers for the electoral college.
In 2004, the Electoral College looked like this :
Democrat 252 Republican 286 ( 270 needed to win)
By clicking on a state, one can re-calculate the impact in the Electoral College.

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/13/2008 8:57:06 AM | I hope and pray those stats don't repeat themselves this year. It looks like some former red states will turn blue if Obama gets the nomination: Virginia looks promising as do many of the Western states.
I agree that Michelle Obama's words are harmless in comparison to Bushboy's idiotic policies, as one poster mentioned. So true!! I won't miss Laura Bush, a do-nothing wuss. Even Nancy Reagan was a better First Lady for her Say No to Drugs message. I hated Ronald Reagan but I liked Nancy's efforts to keep kids off drugs. At least she tried to do something. But Laura Bush is a useless wuss like her husband. (gag!) I am sure that Michelle will find a message that she can use to benefit our nation.
Thank you Bob Barr for siphoning off Republican votes and helping Obama!!!!!!!
GO OBAMA!! | |

agree that Michelle Obama's words are harmless in comparison to Bushboy's idiotic policies, as one poster mentioned. Ok once again for the cheap seats...what does Bush have to do with this election? He is not Running...M Obamas words are not harmless because her husband is running, see how that works..whether you hate Bush or not he wont be President after November.....anything about the Obamas is relevant as they are seeking to lead the American People, Bush is History....get it ..quit trying to direct attention to Bush and away from Obama....and his radical beliefs and associations, Yes they do matter, they influence how he sees the U.S. and so far in his career his beliefs have influenced his policy making...so get real Leave Bush out of it and start addressing the issues concerning Obama,This Liberal misdirection is annoying...You side points to statements made by Obama as proof, the Real Proof is in the legislation he supported so far and the choices he makes in his everyday life....in the words of the esteemed Dr Wright..."He(Obama) is a politician he says what he has to say"

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/13/2008 11:03:58 AM | Obama will win the election thanks to McSame's association to Bush. Bush's approval rating is in the dumps and McSame still wants to tie himself to Bush. The only way McSame wins this election will be due to Diebold and voter fraud. This may explain why McSame continues to be bed buddies with Bush, because Bush and his posse are pofressional election thieves.
Obama has distanced himself from his former pastor who is guilty of saying some unpatriotic things. McSame continues to bed down with an administration who is guilty of treason. They outed Valerie Plame because her husband called bullsh!t on one of their main "pieces of evidence" that Iraq was pursuing WMD. Suddenly that Pastors actions don't seem all that bad. He didn't do anything that could have him put to death like Cheney did. Or should I say... Benedict Cheney.

In 2004, the Electoral College looked like this :

What is your opinion about the 75 or so needed by Obama???
Barr is meaningless .. Ron Paul might upset the balance except>> most of his support is not the RNC base ... It's the youth vote, which may hurt Obama.... You know those crazy kids....

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/13/2008 12:25:01 PM |
what does Bush have to do with this election?
Everything.
Where it not for his many blunders ANY republican candidate would stand a better chance of being elected & it would be MUCH harder for the democrats to field such candidates as we have now.
It seems like many republicans would like to distance themselves from Bush. Sorry, not going to be that easy.....they elected him, they get to deal w/ the fallout.
The fallout being, we may just have the most liberal-thinking President in 30+ years, thanks to soon-to-be Ex-President Bush.

| obama's chances in the general election Posted: 5/13/2008 12:27:07 PM | Well, that depends on how the Democrats and media does it's job.
If it actually starts to focus on the important issues, like McCain's platform and it's implications in terms of the American economy, the costs involved for all of this generosity of his ?
Obama's in without any question.
If Hillary continues to beat that dead horse, spread division, and carry on ? Each day lessens the chances of an Obama win.
The time to start is NOW.
McCain's committed himself on those figures.
They are unrealistic, and will plunge the country into debt - or they are lies.
The person he's got as his current economic adviser, and the possible head of Treasury makes Ebenezer Scrooge seem like a humanitarian - in his own words.
McCain's flip flopped like a trout. On many issues:
McCain criticized TV preacher Jerry Falwell as “an agent of intolerance” in 2002, but has since decided to cozy up to the man who said Americans “deserved” the 9/11 attacks. (Indeed, McCain has now hired Falwell’s debate coach.)
* McCain used to oppose Bush’s tax cuts for the very wealthy, but he reversed course in February.
* In 2000, McCain accused Texas businessmen Sam and Charles Wyly of being corrupt, spending “dirty money” to help finance Bush’s presidential campaign. McCain not only filed a complaint against the Wylys for allegedly violating campaign finance law, he also lashed out at them publicly. In April, McCain reached out to the Wylys for support.
* McCain supported a major campaign-finance reform measure that bore his name. In June, he abandoned his own legislation.
* McCain used to think that Grover Norquist was a crook and a corrupt shill for dictators. Then McCain got serious about running for president and began to reconcile with Norquist.
* McCain took a firm line in opposition to torture, and then caved to White House demands.
* McCain gave up on his signature policy issue, campaign-finance reform, and won’t back the same provision he sponsored just a couple of years ago.
* McCain was against presidential candidates campaigning at Bob Jones University before he was for it.
* McCain was anti-ethanol. Now he’s pro-ethanol.
* McCain was both for and against state promotion of the Confederate flag.
* And now he’s both for and against overturning Roe v. Wade.
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/9111.html
McCain's admitted he's not strong on economics.
Bush has stated that he is out there for "our" goals.
McCain has committed himself to the neo-con side of the party, with this association.
Why do you think the entire focus of the debate is on Wright/Muslim/Global Tax Act/ lapel pins, etc , etc, etc ?
If the Democrats can't get Obama elected this year, with THIS type of guy to run against, and after eight years of George Bush ?
May as well just close the doors, and take the sign of it.
If they return to their roots, focus on what once made them strong, focus on the issues in front of them , and their consequences t0 the nation - it's a no brainer.
They fell asleep twice, and look what happened ?
Reach for the snooze alarm again , and it's deja vu....
The problem here is that the Democrats are playing the Republicans game - not their own.
That's what cost them two elections, and it's in danger of happening again.
