ok.... i agree that the word "stalker" is overused... I think too many times people just dont have the nerve to say..."hey , youre just not the one for me" .. also are these people that you've just met or are these women that you've slept with and moved on.... too many people use that lable when "they " are actually the ones in the wrong.
I agree that the word "stalker" is very much overused. If people would be more direct and honest in their communication I think there would be less confusion.
If you are not interested in someone, have the courage to tell them face to face "I'm not interested in you". Ninety percent of the time that will end all contact. | |

Posted: 4/23/2008 3:50:29 PM | Wow. I had a stalker, but it was long long long ago. lol We were just kids, she and I dated and we were about 19-20 years old. We broke up and she would follow me everywhere. I'd go to the beach and then see her a little ways off. Went to Mexico (were we could drink and dance) and she would follow me from club to club. Basically kept tabs on my by following me and my close friends.
She finally snapped on night and approached me telling me that if she couldn't have me, no one can. At which point she had a huge kitchen knife raised above her head. Lucky I have a close friend right next to her, who noticed and grabbed her wrist and I got the knife.
Her dad was a cop, and after I took her home to him and explained what had happened, letting him know that there were 4 witnesses to this occurance. He assured me that I would have no trouble with his daughter again.
I didn't.
Still I think that with women today, if you are stalked (usually by the control freak), than you should treat it seriously and get a restraining order. It's not worth your safety at all.

I mean, I remember back in high school and college - if one of my girls had broken up with her boyfriend (or vice versa) - - hell yeah we would drive by his house and see if we could check out any activity through the windows from the street. It was silly and infantile - - but "stalking" - I think that is a bit extreme.
I agree that the term "stalking" is overused. When somebody says they've had a couple of stalkers I bet that person just disappears out of people's lives, and if they call him / her, they say "Oh, he/she won't stop calling me. I'm being stalked." I remember a married woman I used to know, was fooling around on her husband. First she said her husband was stalking her. Then she went back to her husband and said her now ex-lover was stalking her. Truth of the matter was that she was a liar, a cheater, and turned on a dime. She'd tell a man she loved him one minute, and then totally jam him up the next minute. She played men and played with their feelings. I'd like to hear trudawg 's stalkers side of the story...because there no doubt is another side to the story when somebody claims to have frequent stalkers!!!!

What I have had though was a self-important arse who blocked me thinking I was hot for him -- when I just forgot to close the im box-- he must have thought I was trying to message him up and down... pretty insulting to get blocked for no good reason-- then again who cares-- Im not interested now anyway! lol | |

I dated him for about a year, I ended it because it just wasn't going anywhere. He started parking outside my house all night, looking in my windows, leaving flowers and stuff on my yard...just to let me know that he'd been there. I was terrified, I was alone with my kids. I had to go to the police repeatedly for help, change my phone number 4 times and even stop talking to my brother. He was finally charged and there's still a restraining order. Alot of you are joking about being stalked but I will never forget the fear that I felt for the year that it was going on. | |

I just think people use that term too loosely . . . which, in turn, diminishes the effect of the term when the situation really is one of stalking . . . such as the case you described. | |

Some of the people aren't treating it with respect, yes. But, part of getting over it is being able to tell the story without crying or having that rock hard feeling when you're trying to breathe.
I JOKE about the guy being dumb for following me around at that time of the month, but he just destroyed my mode of transportation so he could offer to drive me around.
The people saying they want a stalker aren't talking about real stalkers, they're talking about those cute wierdos that follow you around.
People deal with things in different ways. My brother's memorial service was PACKED with jokes. He died on a motorcycle and he got into arguments a lot. When people were making fun of him arguing with St Peter about how he shouldn't be dead, they're not being disrespectful, they're just accepting it happened, it is over and it is time to move on.
Yeah, it is VERY scarey to have a stalker, especially if there is anyone else in the world you care about. Don't let them run your life, though. I refused to change my number and move for any of my stalkers, that's why you have them charged.
The restraining order does nothing in my opinion, it just adds an extra charge to their rap sheet when they do something.
People will always post stupid stuff in the forums. | |

It wasn't just me that he was stalking,he was trying to get to me through my kids. I am over it now but it has changed the way that I react to some comments..sorry if I was rude to anyone  | |

I've had a couple, and just can't seem to shake them, they lie dormant for awhile then like clock-work re-appear out of the blue like nothing has ever happened and we're long lost buddies!
Ahhh...so you've been blowing people off without telling them...and then labelling them stalkers when they do something really crazy like...oh I dunno...feel like catchin up with you.
Lets hope your mother doesnt call you often or you'll have her committed.

Well she didn't have any pictures while I did so I asked if she had myspace being that it's kinda unfair that she knows what I look like while I don't. She did, but I was busy working so I never had time to accept her friend request and actually see some pictures of her. Well I went to work that night (I have a second job) got done, dug my phone out of my backpack and saw I had 2 voicemail messages and 3 text messages all getting progressively angrier for me not responding (she did know I had to work at my second job that night because we had talked about that a whole 3 hours before). Well whatever, she's obviously crazy who cares. I get home and get on my computer and see the friend request from her on myspace. I start looking through her pictures and realize this girl looks familiar. Son of a B!! She had come into my work and hadn't said a thing about it. So when I confronted her she said she didn't even realize I was working and that she needed something there, which was almost plausible except for the fact we had spent a good 30 minutes talking about my job and what I did and the fact I worked tonight only a few hours before she came in. Apparently confronting her made her mad and thankfully I haven't talked to her or seen her since. | |

I love how you make judgments, and come to conclusions about what happened between me and someone else that I would go so far as to label as a stalker (aka a few french fries short of a happy meal). As I said in my previous post I can understand how the term "stalker" can be over-used therefore diluting it, but regardless I would classify these individuals as absolutely relentless and refusing to take NO for an answer. Posted: 4/24/2008 2:37:24 PM | Prehaps, you are meeting people too soon -- I stopped that after the little lair turned out to be a male hooker that took a few months to ditch (can't say he stalked me -- just overly interested -- wasn't even gonna' charge me for his services -- yeah right --hit the curb) --- Also, that's what the block ability is for on these sites. Don't let people know ... where you live, work or your work number -- everything else you can block -- personal ... email's, IM's, phones.
At this point of internet dating if a person tries to rush the meeting -- they'll find someone (ready & willing to dash out to meet them) more promising -- I'd rather pass on them than be rushed to meet them (that impatient with building a comfort zone just imagine what a real relationship holds in store -- next) If it's sex not relationship they want -- they're outta' here when they hit the delete key and well on their way to their next potential pray. | |
