I think it is o.k. to drink, but not o.k. to get drunk. It says in the bible that drunkards will not enter the kingdom of Heaven.

Drinking alcohol is not a sin. Isus was sinless and drank wine at his brother's wedding. If it was a sin, He could not have been sinless. There is a difference between merely drinking to enjoy it, and getting drunk as a skunk.

Jesus is very merciful, but he also doesn't forget, so even if one is sober wher he/she dies, Jesus still knows that he/she fell into temptation before. Then it is up to him to decide what he wants to do with them, depending on their faith.

as you have stated nowhere in bible does it say that drinking is a sin.
But getting drunk is drunkered shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus drank wine. paul encouraged timothy to drink a little wine for his stomach. but there is a verse that may help as well . about not doing any thing to cause your brother to stumble. so if me drinking causes my brother to stumble then i need to think of him not just of my self.
hope this is of use to you.

Excess is what's frowned upon... eating too much is, to the best of my knowledge, considered to be as bad as being drunk.

Hi All,

I don't think drinking is a sin. Letting it control you may be a sin, (my opinion).
Sin is a Sin, If you plan on doing something intentionaly that you think is sinful
why do you feel you should be forgiven. It's like if you are going 90 miles an hour and you get pulled over, don't you deserve that ticket. The cop isn't going to say Oh....Okay so you know you were going 90, Oh....then I won't give you this ticket. Sorry that's just stupid.

Hey, did someone say it's 4:20???????

Cheers,

Having an alcoholic beverage isn't a sin in my eyes. It is getting drunk that is. Although I do not drink myself, it is my own personal choice. So if you enjoy a cold beer on a hot day, or a glass of wine with your dinner go for it.

Just to go back to the OP.
Drinking Alcohol is a sin in Islam...NO question. In fact, so is handling it and buying/selling it. Been to a corner store owned by muslims though?....so much for the handling/selling part.. And who has not sinned? So does that mean we're all gonna spend some time in hell? Do you think they'll serve cold ones in Hell? Heck, I'm muslim...but if I'm there already? Oh Oh I think I may go to hell just for posting this

Drinking per se is not a sin but the abuse of it is. Drunkards are put down numerous times in the bible and it is clear that it is sinful and that those who do are not respecting the temples(our bodies) that the good Lord gave us. While the bible does mention wine often, I think it is meant to be used in moderation and only on occasion, not daily.
As far as the Opium question. I do not know exactly why that is acceptable in some(not all) muslim countries. I would think it is because it is a plant that is harvested and viewed by muslims as acceptable because of that fact. Alcohol has to be processed and fermented and is not exactly taken right from the fruit when it is harvested, but processed later in the form of fermenting. This is all just a quess though mind you and I will ask a muslim friend about this question because it is such a good point. Also, maybe it is because drunkards are mentioned so often in the bible while there is no mention of opium or hash addicts.

Even Jesus turned water into wine. I mean common! Drinking alcohol also has many benafits to the physical body. Like a glass of red wine a day keeps your heart healthy. I say aslong as your not drinking to get drunk, then its fine. Even communion was done with wine.

Prov. 23
30They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

31Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

32At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

There are two words used for wine in the bible. The first is fruit of the vine(grape juice)
the second is mixed or old wine that is the stuff that can put ypu on your back.

Jesus made water into wine(grape juice) not something that can get ppl drunk.

If you are a christian do you really think God would approve of something that kills more ppl, causes more break ups and abuse than any other thing in the world?

Drinking alcohol is not sinful. But getting drunk is. Having few drinks won't hurt anyone-but be careful.

As for hardcore drunks...even they will enter Heaven, if they believe and trust in jesus Christ.

Salvation is NOT based on works-whether they be good or bad. Being a good person does not garentee Heaven nor does being bad send a person to Hell. The only people who wind-up in Hell are those who don't believe.

Funn1, just out of curiosity, are you 7th Day Adventist? Hope you don't mind me asking-- your messaging restrictions rule me out.

OT: Drinking is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so...

Cheers!

Funn1, just out of curiosity, are you 7th Day Adventist?

I have studied with Baptist, S.D.A. L.D.S. non denomination, Presbyterian and the Nazarene churches, but hold no allegiance to any 1 right now. I think God has his ppl in all churches and some who dont even belive yet.Why did you ask, this topic is not an S.D.A teaching, I knew this one as a kid.

It is written.
Prov. 23: 30-32

And if you look up the word wine in the hebrew you will find it is talking about the new wine(grape juice) or fruit of the vine. Or mixed or old wine. If you look it up verse by verse it is clear.

Hey and no big , ppl can ask what they want of me, if I can answer it I will.

Actually, it was your vegetarian stance in another thread that made me think SDA. This thread just seemed like further evidence.

OT: My point is that if you believe drinking is wrong, then it is indeed wrong for you to drink.

Cheers!

Funn1,

Wine Hebrew definition as per the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance....

Definition # 3196
yayin. yah'-yin; from an unused rootmean. to effervesce; wine (as fermented); by impl. intoxication: - banqueting, wine, wine [bibber].

Definition # 8492
tiyrowsh, tee-roshe; or
tiyrosh, tee-roshe; from 3423 in the sense of expulsion; must or fresh grape-juice (as just squeezed out); by impl. (rarely) fermented wine: - (new, sweet) wine.

Definition # 7491
ra'aph, raw-af; a prim. root; to drip: - distill, drop (down).

Definition # 2561
chemer, kheh-mer; from 2560; wine (as fermenting): - x pure, red wine.

Wine is not just fresh grape juice; it might be, but the majority of the Hebrew references to wine in the bible are of fermented grapes....alcohol.

Matthew 15:11 (NKJV)
Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.
As long as you can handle your alcohol, you should be okay.

Genesis 27:28 (NKJV)
Therefore may God give you Of the dew of heaven, Of the fatness of the earth, And plenty of grain and wine.
Wine is a blessing.

Ecclesiastes 10:19 (NKJV)
A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; But money answers everything.
Wine adds to celebrations.

Matthew 2:1-10....too much to post, but Jesus makes wine so that everyone can continue their enjoyment.

I never said it was just grape juice.

Look what happens to all the people that drink in the bible.
