| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/3/2008 12:09:21 PM | Oh, yeah... When I went back to school and could finally have a non-business-like out-going message (I was self-employed before), I changed it every other day for a while.
One of them was: "Speak Friend and Enter... What is the Elvish word for Friend?"

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/5/2008 6:42:18 PM | | I don't find it unattractive AT ALL. Stargate SG-1 all the way! lol. Seriously though, it's not unattractive unless you wear spok ears and can not get out of the Twilight Zone your all good! | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/5/2008 6:45:15 PM | Sci-fi is some of the best stuff!
The "Aliens" movies...very once and awhile I will do a mini-marathon and watch all of them.
And I watch the Sci-fi channel very once and awhile too.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 4:53:55 AM | Last night I had a horrible headache and laid in bed watching a marathon of "Firefly"
Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 3:53:22 PM | I'm the complete opposit. I perfer men with open-minds and an interest in sci-fi and unknown compaired to men who are too serious and only focus on what's in fromt of them. | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 4:57:13 PM | Kudos to muddycesspool, and fellow Star Trek fan. Honestly, I do not know how or where these stereotypes originate from, but I think they are stupid. I am sure that there are alot of women who like sci-fi as well as fantasy. I am a woman, and I have always loved sci-fi from childhood to adulthood. I grew up as a Star Wars fan, atleast the first three episodes any way. Star Trek is another one that I enjoy watching. The Incredible Hulk was very interesting, both the original series as well as the motion picture. What is there not to like?
In addition to watching sci-fi, one of my favorite authors was the late Issac Asimov. How is that for sci-fi?
|
| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 4:59:43 PM | Sigh...As usual I'm the weird one.
I can't answer this since I have "Star Wars" Episode 4 memorized. And close to it on the rest of the original trilogy. I read Timothy Zahn novels and my ex made me read his Piers Anthony.
I am also a Trekkie. Stargate (the movie) fan. And while its not Sci Fi...I'm starting to relish CSI Miami.
I can discuss in detail the clone wars, why Biggs wasn't more of a character, and we can talk about Kubrick if you want too. And I was diggin the new Dr. Who for the first season.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 5:02:46 PM | Yes yes...Asimov, was reading him in grade school. I'd also like to add I was extremely into astronomy. So much so that even as a comm. major I took it as an elective and was able to calculate stellar magnitudes before I got out. (before the dark times, before the chemo brain.) The main reason I don't read more sci fi is that I can't put a book down until its done and I will exhaust myself in the process. And if its a trilogy? Don't talk to me for days. | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 5:24:17 PM | I really enjoy science fiction... I also love stories that travel in time and characters are immortal... (Anne Rice's books, Witches of Mayfair and all of her vampire series...)
A character that I really loved was "Q" on Star Treck the next generation...
I loved his opinions. He basically had eternal life and the episode where he wished to end his life was very very interesting. "Q" could travel in time, somtimes mess up and his supervisors would punish him... I loved the episode where his elders made him human... It was so entertaining and downright funny at times... Anyway...
Anyway... I just love a movie that captures my imagination and challenges me on moral, emotional and intelectual issues...
For what it is worth... I would consider Captain Picard for a possible long term realshionship and Number One for a one night stand... Warf (? spelling), the klingon, just makes my hormones light up like a christmas tree... That guy brings such primal feelings... Ok... enough now... Is it just me or is it getting hot in here?

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 5:33:16 PM | So where did this myth start? It appears most women and sci-fi are two pee's in a pod.
I know more guys who are not interested in fantasy flicks like Harry Potter, Lord ot the Rings, etc.
Or is that different from sci-fi???
|
| So What? Posted: 5/6/2008 5:36:52 PM | ^^^^^ The myth's origin may not be known, but it was perpetuated by POF's "Things Not to Discuss With the Opposite Sex" talking points

Anyway... Q, by the way, was a character modeled on my M.O.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/6/2008 6:24:39 PM | | Did I also mention that I was a fan of the late astronomer Carl Sagan? I liked that movie Contact, and I read some of his books such as Demon Haunted World and Pale Blue Dot. But, then I suppose that is starting to move into the realm of science rather than science-fiction. | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 5/7/2008 1:47:01 AM | | ok, ok, ok, stop tickling me, I confess! I have had a mad crush on Rachel Rosen for years...........sigh.............. The brilliant conversion of Phillip D1ck's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" into the classic "Blade Runner" has to be appreciated as an art piece regardless of any general interest in sci-fi. There are nearly as many ladies as men in its various fan forums. | |
