Posted: 4/30/2008 4:54:25 AM | I am also new to internet dating but I have no doubts that it's a very good way of meeting new people.
Here in Ireland a lot of people would meet out in a pub or a club etc but personally I have sometimes felt that it's a bit of a seedy environmet . People have been drinking and many are just looking for someone for the night. I am not claiming that some people in here aren't looking for just that but at least you can get a good feel about someone by reading their profile.

Posted: 4/30/2008 7:43:21 AM | I would like to think that somewhere a long the line i would meet new friends, not really bothered if i dont meet r perfect or a knight in shining armour, but a few friends for a laff on or off line would be nice.
as you can guess i am new to all this, and as yet am not dismaying yet, this seems like a good site and i have met a few nice people.

I'd have to say yes. and why not ?
I suppose thats up to the couple involved. If they are both looking for the same thing, sure why couldent it develop into what they want.
The internet is just another tool for getting the job done. Could'nt you ask the same question of the personal advertisments in the local or national newspapers. | |

Everyone that I have met has been surprisingly 'normal' like everyone else. Some are looking for a friend to hang out and see the city, others are just looking for fun and many are also looking for a relationship. | |

Posted: 5/1/2008 11:31:03 AM | I know for a fact that online dating works. My last 2 long-term relationships were with women that I met through an online personal ad (Ya-hoo Personals). The first lasted for 4 years and the second for 3 years. I also have several friends who have met their significant others and spouses through other dating sites.
Though there are a lot of bad matches that you have to sift through, it's no different than doing the same thing at a bar or another social meeting place. I also believe this venue is far better than that speed dating crap. There is no way a person can get a feel for another in less than 3 minutes of talking to them.
So throw your bait into the pond and see what swims up. You never know, the one that takes a nibble could be that rare record-breaking catch that makes you the envy of everyone.  | |

At the same time I have blind chatted with some people in the past who I ended up meeting only to be disappointed. I always picture them more along my preferences than they turn out.
The only way I expect I will end up meeting someone is the way I have in the past through friends. Because all the pressure is off and I am merely enjoying the company of new and old friends, and occasionally something develops when I least expect it. | |

There are a lot here just to play the game but then there are also the ones that are looking for the same as us. Just have to work your way through the non genuine ones. Whats the alternative? Go to the pubs every night? Whats the guarantee in meeting someone genuine there? Just have to make the effort to get out there and meet as many people as you can. You'll never ever know if you never have a go! Although i have not met my ideal partner here, i have met genuine women looking for the same as me. Just because we weren't compatible doesn't mean the compatible ones aren't out there. Just get out there,meet people,have fun and whatever will be will be. | |

Internet dating isn't for everyone though, and I have noticed the ones that do not have luck at it will make the more than occassional negative comments, but yet they are still here...really don't like the negative comments you get from time to time. | |

Posted: 5/2/2008 9:21:39 AM | Sure you can, just as you can when walking into that night club one time, or that patio bar, or Starbucks while ordering coffee.
On line dating justs adds another dimension to the dating options, and one can meet that right person on here, just as much as you could walking down the street. What it takes are different skills that must be used when on the computer, compared to the ones you have used over the years in person.
The key is to make the internet work for you, and meet as soon as possible, not allowing the relationship to be totally developed on line. To many get stuck here and never make things real in person. It is a syndrome that has developed over the years, and it creates a behind the screen, hiding persona that is hard to break.
I can usually tell in a short amount of time, those that are here to really meet and connect, and those that are here to stay here, and once that is determined, you either force them to get in the real world, or move on because they will never leave the computer.
The whole point is to not blame the internet or the computer for the dating situation, but more yourself for not making it another tool, and having it become your relationship.

My testimonial is that I have been dating a guy I met on here for 9 monthes now. It has been a great relationship and I'm lucky to have him and he says the same about me; only he is a lot more wordy. | |
