Meeting from this site is a bit tougher then the pay sites because this is a free site and not as many serious people are here. Meeting quality people for long term is not easy. Yes there are more than a fair share of timewasters, frauds, liars, and all the other assorted lowlives that give online dating a bad name. But lets be honest - dont we all see those same sorts of people behaving in similar ways everywhere else in our lives. Biggest problem with here is its so easy for those idiots to be that way when they can hide behind their keyboard and i'm sure i'm not the only one to have been put off by them to a certain extent. The sort of person who wants to just look for short term flings on here for example - well would they be any different if you met them anywhere else???
I met my last ex online on another site and we were together 3 years so i can only say the same as many others - yes you can meet someone online - just have to strike it lucky in managing to speak to that one person who is as serious as you. I think the only way to treat this site is with a pinch of salt - if that someone special comes along then great, but its just another method of getting that initial contact for meeting someone single out there in the real world | |

Posted: 5/13/2008 4:57:04 PM | I very much doubt I will meet someone form a website, although the (dark) romantic in me sometimes tries to be heard.
With the typed word being the only method of communication (unless of course you go to MSN and have a webcam) 90% of communication is taken away.
Nothing like mannerisms, smell, atmosphere, what they sound like, their laugh, etc etc etc doesn't come into it.
So why am I here?
To talk. To chat. To find out where people are at. To get to 'know' people as much as possible.
It's a bit like this: You can be seeing someone for ages, but you don't really know them until you move into a house/flat/etc with them. | |

Posted: 5/14/2008 1:21:04 PM | Well here's an interesting thought for you, in the darkages (aka before internet) I got writing to an American girl - we were 'penpals' - where you had to wait 2 weeks between letters! We started writing aged 11, finaly met aged 14, started fully dating aged 17 and we were together until her death aged 26 - indeed We would now be married andwith kids had fate not got involved. I don't see the internet as anything different except it's far easier to 'groom' people online, and to appear to be something a person is not - hence you do need to keep your guard up!
I've met about 30 people from differing internet site and 10 of them are now some of my closest and most loyal friends. The rest, it was clear that in the 'real world' we just didnt click lol! I think you really can meet the person of your dreams anywhere and using any method just DONT look to hard or you'll never find happiness. You must build a repoire with some first through emails and phone talk. But there are those rare times you dont get what you planned. But unless you try, you'll never know right?

I have had a couple of what i would deem fairly serious relationships from the net, they havent lasted but that was more to distance than anything else and both having commitments that meant we couldnt move.
I prefer net dating, you get to chat to the person and get to know some of who they are before meeting, its much better than trying to meet someone in a bar/club | |

with a girl who really likes me, I even liked her profile and it didn't have a picture
We've met once so far, talked on phone,I message her a lot , now I'm going to see her again.. main thing is , we both liked each other .. and we'll see how it goes. but I'm optimistic | |

i too have a sister who met her husband online...both of them living many thousands of miles apart at the time of the online encounter...a US /UK marriage...and now they have been happily married to each other for several years ...
and i have a cousin from Jamaica...who met and married a wonderful woman from Australia...an interracial marriage as well...and after living together for many years in Jamaica and Australia...they now live together in New Zealand....
hey..as we both say...it depends on the two people who meet...nothing else matters...there are decent attractive people from all over the globe and they are finding each other....overcoming obstacles like distance... and getting together... | |

Posted: 5/17/2008 8:57:41 AM | I would assume that the same scenario goes with meeting someone off-line; ergo, a grocery store, a mall, through friends. You have the same chances of making it work. It's always a 50/50 chance.
We are just making ourself more apt to meeting a wider variety of possible relationships, from this online thing.

I have met a few wonderful people on here. The question lies not in finding someone to fill a void, but to find someone who is compatible. There lies the challenge. It is easy to get "caught up", if you will, in the hopes of finding someone that will make all your dreams come true, only to realize you share nothing in common later.
Too oftern, I myself falling victim to it before, the hopeless romantic in some of us sarches for the person that we know might not be "it", but we base our descision to meet them on the premiss that they "could be".
Talk, talk, talk, talk, and talk more. The best way to find someone , after the initial attraction is found, is to see if you truely can hold conversations about nothing. The person who you will never run out of things to talk about with over morning coffee is the goal in my book.
They are out there, and not at a bar. People who think just like you are here every day dear,..
