YOUNG AT HEART - Frank Sinatra
Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you If you're young at heart For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind If you're young at heart You can go to extremes with impossible schemes You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams And life gets more exciting with each passing day And love is either in your heart or on its way
Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on earth To be young at heart For as rich as you are it's much better by far To be young at heart And if you should survive to 105 Look at all you'll derive out of being alive And here is the best part You have a head start If you are among the very young at heart
And if you should survive to 105 Look at all you'll derive out of being alive And here is the best part You have a head start If you are among the very young at heart.

YOUNG AT HEART - Frank Sinatra
Frankie is a perfect example--he married Mia Farrow in an effort to prove his virility!

Well, when I was with him at the Fox in Detroit, his singing wasn't bad either.
Being "young at heart" is a state of mind. I hope I never lose it.

Well, if one believe's Ava Gardner's comment about his equipment, Frank didn't have a problem in that department.
He was with Ava when he was young; he was with Mia when he was much older!

| Young At Heart ??? Posted: 10/16/2008 6:33:15 PM | Everyone views age differently. My best friend is 6 months a older than me and couldn't care less. Of course she is married and to a much older man, though I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I lie about my age all the time.
If someone asks me how old I am, I am 45. You are not supposed to ask a lady her age , anyway. I don't think I am old but I don't think I am young at heart.
I enjoy many activities but I am also level headed and realistic. The term young at heart to me evokes an image of someone who is immature or reckless. I'm more interested in a fella with a healthy heart, a giving heart, or a kind heart.

And I believed her when she said "it's not the size of the tool, it's how you use it."
I'm so gullible. | |

A lady should never have to divulge her age. And, drats it's just not polite for a gentleman to ask. But, the darn POF rules say we have to disclose.

| Young At Heart ??? Posted: 10/16/2008 7:46:12 PM | Well, that is very good information to have, PeteredOut, and thanks for sharing! (Sorry. Had to tease a bit.)
I like the OP's original question regarding age. Things have just changed so much for my particular generation. 45 years old and up was considered to be positively ancient in previous generations!
Recently when going through some of my grandmother's things, my mother and I found an obituary of my great-grandmother. She was 75 years old when she passed away -- which surprised my mother, because in her words, "I always thought of her as an old woman." Thanks to medical advances, better health care and nutrition, and just life improvements in general, things are no longer that way for us and succeeding generations.
So, I don't lie about my age (it's right there on my profile, and you can take a look at my driver's license to back it up!) But, age is also SO much one's attitude. While it's very unattractive to try to be cool and hip, just keeping up with popular culture and current events can help to keep you updated.
And, for heaven's sake, laugh at silly things and keep a sense of humor...that will keep you young! (Speaking of silly, I'm working on my Halloween Sarah Palin outfit -- or more precisely, me as Tina Fey as Sarah. Whew!)

The "negative nancy", or "negative nate" are easily dilineated from the rest by their reaction to the meaning of "young at heart."
Optimism is good for your health. I choose "half full!"
Luved the reference to 'Ole Blue Eyes.
One of my favorite happy songs?
"Stars shining bright above you Night breezes seem to whisper, I love you Birds singing in the Sycamore tree Dream a little dream of me"

Mama Cass Elliot did the most well-known version. I love that song, too.

I must agree with you, I'm not fond of that phrase either. I believe that age is truly only a number. I ve seen people in their 50's and 60's who look absolutely fabulous and fit....I ve also met people in their 30's and 40's who were wrinkled, out-of-shape and honestly, looked like they were on their last leg.
Since one never know when it will be their "last day," why not enjoy each and every day? I don't mean running oneself to the ground but just making the best of each day....being thankful for the positive things in life, getting pleasure from the simple everyday wonders and remember..."what goes around, comes around..."
Take good care, Alexandra

That's right. Some things are private. If anyone asks, I'm 12".
Only because of your obsessive desire to be The Ruler!!!!!

| Young At Heart ??? Posted: 10/17/2008 12:40:42 PM | ^^You mean that Petered doesn't rule? Who knew? <div class="quote">I had a 20 something tell me I was old, like it was an insult Last night, I had a 20 something compliment me and say not to "let anyone put me down because of my age and to act young because I look it". It was very sweet, and no it was not one of those young un's trying to snag a cougar either.
Back on topic, I have friends of all ages. Some of my early 30 something friends are old souls and I have a 79 year old friend who is very vivacious and we laugh a lot whenever we talk.

I take yoga to stay limber, I can put my foot in my mouth anytime I want with no negative repercussions.
It keeps me young! | |

The glass is half full if you are pouring into it.
The glass is half empty if you are drinking from it.
I don't know why people have to make things so difficult.

| Young At Heart ??? Posted: 10/17/2008 4:50:54 PM | | I say Young at Heart because I really am! I am over 50 but I act like Im so much younger because that is exactly how I feel! I mean, I play indoor soccer with 28 year olds and can keep up with them and I love being with the younger people - some men turn me off by living in their rocking chairs and not getting out and hiking or doing anything outdoors. I dont like to be stymied by men just wanting to sit on the couch and watching football! I am so ready to travel, ski, rollerblade, and do everything that the younger set does - I have very few women friends that like to ski or play soccer - most men dont believe me when I tell them I am in great shape, can still compete with younger women athletes and I will not ever let them put me in my place thinking I am too old for any of these things! I'm not - most men can't keep up with me - I like dating younger men (maybe 10 years younger or late 30's) because they can keep up with me and most of the men I talk to says that age is just a number - so I dont think of myself as old at all and I am not trying to use the phrase as any indication that I am! | |
