| Making Vitamin C Posted: 5/4/2008 12:17:35 PM | it makes no difference if you megadose Vit C when you feel an illness coming on, youre better off eating more and doing some form of exercise to stimulate your Immune system. Even though Vit C is a water soluble vit it takes between 6-8 hours to start to clear out of the system, ask your father what he thinks of supra-physiological doses of Vit C and immune function, ill pretty much guarantee he wont say anything over a gram is needed
Best thing to do really is space it out over 2 hour periods so take say 120mg 5x a day each 3 or so hours apart
Testosterone can also be used to avert pregnancy, then again a safer option has always been a condom as Vit C or other pregnancy control method aint gonna save ya from an STD

| Making Vitamin C Posted: 5/4/2008 12:31:18 PM | Honestly, if you are feeling a cold coming on, you're already well on your way to being sick. Infection is more of a cumulative effect; "The Chain of Infection" is what is healthcare workers are made to live by. The focus is on prevention rather than treatment. The best thing is to break the cycle; make sure you wash your hands (that's the big one! Just 10 seconds of soap and water), get plenty of sleep, eat nutritious foods, drink plenty of fluids (but not too much, only about 2 liters a day, no sense in over working your kidneys and heart), and exercise regularly. It doesn't hurt to take a supplement, especially the water soluble-vitamins, but be careful with the fat-soluble ones. But this is all prevention.
If you feel an illness coming on, really, the best thing you can do is drink plenty of fluids and rest.
When I was a kid, my family's doctor used to say, "You can stay home, rest, drink juice, and you'll get over your cold in about a week. Or you can come into the office, I'll give you a prescription, and you'll be better in about seven days."

| Making Vitamin C Posted: 5/4/2008 12:46:11 PM | I agree with the last 2 posters, if I feel it coming on its already too late, I just hope to shorten the duration.
It should be noted the the FORM you take your vit c in makes a big difference. The above reference to a certain dosage is a general formula as some vit. c manufacturers use very different methods of delivery, not all even passing the c into the body.
anyway, its a thread about making it, not about efficacy or dosage or lifestyle....
