| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 4/30/2008 10:00:13 PM | ^^^ Desperation?? A Mormon (nearly hopeless with the xian evangelical vote; they view Mormons as borderline "heretics" I've heard), or ......??? Rudy Giuliani?? Fred Thompson?? Despite liking him in the little role he had in Cape Fear (the remade one , w/DeNiro) that brief little sputter about "is this our new Reagan", former actor and all, clearly died out pretty much before it started. Who was left for them?? Ron Paul? Though I disagree w/him on a lot, I liked his let's get out of Iraq ASAP and re-evaluate our foreign policy (particularly vis-a-vis Israel), I don't even really think he IS a real Republican , really, when it comes down to it , more of just an "IND", and furthermore he never had a chance let's face it once the MSM pretty much basically quarantined him. | |

His choice of running mate will be very telling...... I'm guessing he'll want Cheney or Satan himself if he's available.

McCainwon't cut it due to his age alone.

| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/1/2008 12:43:33 PM | xNEROx, speaking of Fred Thompson, I just loved his speech at the Citadel where he announced that America was going to have a "million man army". He defended it by saying, "some people say that may be too much, but I believe that is not the case. It is not the case at all".
It was an invitation to a giant national circle jerk and the fantasy was the Roman Empire with the boots of centurions marching on and on and on and on. Fred just got on the national stage, jacked off in front of everyone, and then disappeared back into the world of bit part actors who do credibility roles real good. What a fricking ***hole!

| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/1/2008 12:47:42 PM | bobbysoxbc, you have to remember that Presidents are measured according to their leaderhip qualities, and part of those are the ability to inspire and lead. Reagan was one of our worst presidents with what he actually did, but he was much-liked, well-loved by many and ditto with JFK, though he might have been a better President than Reagan.
They both gave people a sense of pride and love for a leader. Eisenhower inspired that, too, much loved. I maintain that Obama has that capacity and mcCain and Clinton don't........and even though it is just a big, old shmooze factor .....we dont look for objective qualities in a president, thats the facts.

^^^ Yeah, basically........ On Jay Leno one night not too long ago they were talking about, Candidate most likely to do this or that, and Jay Leno said McCain on the other hand is the candidate most likely to have to be asked to close his robe. He also said McCain would actually be best at that 3AM phone call because he'd be the only candidate who'd for sure be up at that time, trying to pee.

taking all the guns away like we did at katrina in the face of the next disaster violating the second, continued free speech zones violating the 1st.
NwMke....of course guns had to be taken away during Katrina do you remember some people were shooting at the medical personnel who were trying to rescue people from hospitals and rooftops? For God's Sake ! People had guns inside the rescue centers as well.. People get crazy and don't know how to cope so yes guns needed to be taken away.

| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/3/2008 1:28:55 AM | Well, given all the Clinton and Obama bashers in these threads, I have to wonder where their support is of McCain and why there arent very many, if any at all, posts here laying out his solutions to national issues?
Where are you guys? Lets have a real debate.

| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/3/2008 7:03:08 AM | I believe I read a McCain quote the other day about not being willing to accept a budget bill with earmarks. Must mean he can find a veto pen. That should shorten most legislation by 1/2 and would save half of a forest.
I don't think any President can Rehabilitate America; it is a "We the People" problem and WE are not willing to accept that responsibility yet!!

| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/10/2008 10:35:49 PM | Well, here's a recent McCain statement that should rehabilitate anyone thinking of voting for him.
Add this to the pile o' money he's promising to give to the American taxpayer, while spending a pile 'o money over there fighting in Iraq.
(CNN) -- A tax credit to help individuals and families buy health insurance is at the heart of a health care proposal Sen. John McCain unveiled Tuesday.
The credits will spark greater competition among insurance providers and put "individuals and families back in charge," the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said during a speech in Tampa, Florida.
"Millions of Americans would be making their own health care choices again," McCain said. "Insurance companies could no longer take your business for granted, offering narrow plans with escalating costs."
Under McCain's heath care plan, individuals would be eligible for a $2,500 credit and families a $5,000 credit to help pay for health insurance if they do not subscribe to, or do not have access to, employer-provided health care coverage. The government would send the money directly to insurers.
McCain's plan would cost $3.6 trillion over 10 years, the campaign said. McCain would pay for the program by eliminating the tax break employers get for offering insurance.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/04/29/ mccain.healthcare/index.html#cnnSTCText
OK, that's 3,6 trillion dollars over ten years of the plan.
Add that to the 9 trillion debt.
Also add the 1.4 trillion cost of the war so far. Assuming a four year McCain presidency, with the current stance in Iraq, and you might be looking at at least another trillion.
And read his lips.....NO new taxes.
Q: As president, will you veto any tax increase passed by a Democratic Congress?
A: Yes. I think the worst thing we can do right now--we've got some shaky economic times--is to increase people's taxes. And I think that what we need is more tax cuts. We need to make Bush tax cuts permanent. We need to get rid of the AMT. We need to cut corporate taxes. We need to give people reasons to write off and depreciation their business investments and equipment investments.

Oh...there's something else that McCain is for , the inheritance/death tax bill.
Voted YES on raising the Death Tax exemption to $5M from $1M. CONGRESSIONAL SUMMARY:To protect small businesses, family ranches and farms from the Death Tax by providing a $5 million exemption, a low rate for smaller estates and a maximum rate no higher than 35%.
SUPPORTER'S ARGUMENT FOR VOTING YES:Sen. KYL: This amendment is a reprise of what we did last year in offering to reform the estate tax, sometimes referred to as the death tax. Now, in the budget itself, there is a provision to allow the death tax to be changed from the current law to a top rate of 45% and an exempted amount of $3.5 million, and there are some other features. My amendment would reduce that top rate to no higher than 35% so that if you had more than one rate, at least the top rate could not exceed 35%, and both of the two spouses would have a $5 million exempted amount before the estate tax would kick in. Now, the reason for my amendment is: current law [is] getting up to a high rate of 55% and an exempted amount of either $2 million or $1 million, probably $1 million--a continued unfair burden on primarily America's small businesses and farms.
OPPONENT'S ARGUMENT FOR VOTING NO:Sen. CONRAD: This amendment would virtually eliminate the estate tax. Let me say why. Let me first say there is no death tax in the country. Of course, if you poll people and you ask them: Do you want to eliminate the death tax? they will say sure. But you are not going to pay any tax when you die unless you have $2 million. There is no death tax in America. There is a tax on estates. At today's level of $2 million, that affects only 0.5% of estates. When the exemption reaches $3.5 million in 2009, 0.2% of estates will be taxed. If the amendment is agreed to, we would be borrowing money in the name of 99.8% of the American people, borrowing primarily from China & Japan, to give it to the Warren Buffets, the Paris Hiltons, & others of enormous wealth in this country.
LEGISLATIVE OUTCOME:Amendment rejected, 50-50
If that death...I mean estate tax goes through, here's what happens:
Reality: Repealing the estate tax would add trillions of dollars to future deficits.
Permanent repeal of the estate tax would cost more than $1 trillion over the first ten years in which its cost would be fully felt, 2012-2021. This cost includes $859 billion in lost revenue and $251 billion in increased interest payments on the national debt.
(The official ten-year cost estimate is much lower: $499 billion. But that estimate is misleading because it covers an earlier ten-year period, 2008-2017, that captures the full cost of only six years of extending repeal.) (http://www.cbpp.org/6-5-06tax.htm)
There goes another 499 billion in the first nine years, and then a trillion more after that.
You start adding up enough trillions, and it's some serious cash.
McCain's version of economics ?
Reduce taxes, to the tune of trillions , while fighting a war that costs trillions.
All the furor about tax and spend ?
It will even be worse with not tax and spend.

McCain's plan would cost $3.6 trillion over 10 years, the campaign said. McCain would pay for the program by eliminating the tax break employers get for offering insurance. Montreal_Guy You need to reread the last part of your quote.
As for the estate tax issue, there seems to be some inconsistencies in youe statements. The current law has different rates and limits each year and I believe returns to the original 1 million exemption in 2010 so the tax burden depends on which day you die. I don't see any of your quotes talking about current law after 2010. As for your cost of $ 1 trillion
Permanent repeal of the estate tax would cost more than $1 trillion over the first ten years please note that this is for repeal and over 10 years. I don't think anyone is talking total repeal.
The real idea behind the exemption is so children can afford to take over the family small business. In todays world of small business or family farming, 1 mil isn't much and getting less each year.
Please carefully consider what the quotes you pick out of some source are saying. Try to put them in context with common reasoning. When we take statements, especially with statistics, from a source with a built in bias, they will always be slanted and misleading.

| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 7:37:46 AM | [Come on now, tell us what he is going to do for us.]
McCain will do nothing for us. We need to find a leader who's vision is to rebuilt the American Infrastructure. Not other nations. We need to bring back all our military assets home. It does not make any sense to build bases in other nations when we know dam well that we would never allow other countries to occupy our land. Also it does not make any sense to guard other nations borders, when we leave our own virtual unprotected.
McCain and the conservative agenda needs to be eradicated to move this nation into the 21 century.

| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 9:44:16 AM | | ... how's he going to rehab anything since he's so old he'll be doing a fair amount of rehabing himself.... | |
|
| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 5:35:51 PM | Wow! What a profound thought! And how beautifully expressed!
His age is not the reason that he can't do the job. He has no intention of changing anything. He wants to continue with the failed policies. That is why!
|
| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 6:28:20 PM | | itech, I personally dont think he is the Republicans choice. You hear a hell of a lot more Republicans putting the squeeze on Obama than you hear them praising McCain. McCain is just the default candidate, he happened to get more public support than the also-ran losers. | |
|
| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 6:48:02 PM | | ..... that is the best reason not to take him seriously steve, that and his prostate cancer which he w0n't let anybody know about.... | |
|
| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 7:03:42 PM | Where are the facts on the prostate cancer?
I don't see any left-wing fanatics talking about that. Nor do I hear them talking about the man's age.
|
| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 7:31:06 PM | .... admittedly I don't know that he has any kind of prostate problems..... I won't lie.... but he might..... we won't know unless he releases his medical profile which he doesn't seem intent on doing, yet I see that as a very important aspect of his campaign especially given his age.
It's a reasonable thing, to ask of a leader what is up with his health......
...deny at at your own risk....
|
| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 7:44:30 PM | So, your unfounded opinions are reasonable! Your bias against old people are ok.!
These are political forums. Start dealing in politics, not just bs.!
|
| Can McCain Rehabilitate America? Posted: 5/11/2008 7:48:50 PM | .... i'm being honest and I will take the ridicule.... make sure you are willing to stand the same...
I talk from what I know....I don't have a bias against the elderly, in fact I revere them and have taken action in that regard, can you truthfully say the same?? ....you are now in the fire swamp.......
